So, I just picked up Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition and I'm kicking my self for not getting/playing it sooner it might just be my favorite game on the Wii and for $15 it was a steal.

That said I'm not even finished with the game and I'm all ready interested in some of the either RE Wii games, I would appreciate any feed back on the other games be it good or bad since I'm new to the Resident Evil series.

I have read some reviews but I would like to hear your guys opinions please.

I havent any of the Resident Evil games since Resident Evil 2 on PS2 I think it was. I have been debating on getting Resident Evil 4 on the Wii now for awhile. Hows the controls for it??

I love the controls, you move with the nun chuck and aim/shoot with the Wii remote it took me a little bit to get the hang of it but once I did it was a breeze.

I highly recommend this game, it's really long and just fun to play even has made me jump a few times haha.

Here is the review if you haven't all ready read it.

The worst thing about playing RE4 Wii Edition first is that any RE game you play next is going to be an enormous step backward in terms of control.

All of the games in the series that I've played (haven't played 5...) have been worth playing for one reason or another...but be prepared for many camera-caused deaths and control-caused wasted ammo.

Good games, I want to reiterate...just...prepare to be frustrated.

That is a let down to say the least, since the control on 4 is so dang good...

Lol I just looked it up on Amazon to see how much and found it there for $12 so I ordered it. Like I said I havent played the games in years but that was cause I really didnt like the controls. But if you all are saying that the controls are better on the Wii than I will give it a shot (pun attended).

@Splat: Thanks for posting that review. I read it and that helped alot after reading that I decide to check on Amazon.

Yeah...the thing with such awesome controls like that (and I really can't say enough about just how good those controls are) is that they came as such a treat to fans of the series who have been long used to suffering with such godawful control schemes. It was like a reward for being good for so long.

Starting with RE4:Wii isn't at all a bad thing...it's just that those controls will be your first impression, and you'll gauge all of the rest of them by that standard. Not your fault...just prepare for something a bit different from what you might expect.

Haven't played the RE1 and 0 Wiimakes, though. Hopefully those controls have been improved since the PS/GC days.

No problem and good job getting it for $3 less then I paid. I really hope you like it and let me know what you think, I have been dieing to talk to someone about it that it's isn't old news to...

The older games are scarier than 4 & 5 so they're definitely worth checking out. I'm talking about the main series. Don't bother with the Outbreak and Survivor series.

Will do. The controls sound alot like the controls for Starwars: The Forced Unleashed only instead of using the wii remote for a gun its used for the light saber.

Have you played Red Steel 2? It's kinda like that only minus the motion plus.

Resident Evil 0 was just a terrible game, especially the Wii remake. Avoid RE0 at all costs.

The Wii version of Resident Evil 1 is decent but the Gamecube version is better.

Resident Evil 2, 4, and Code Veronica are arguably the best in the series.

Resident Evil 5 was also terrible. If you have a PS3 or 360, get Dead Space instead, much much better survival horror game.

The two lightgun shooters (Umbrella Chronicles and Darkside Chronicles) are good but again, if you like that type of game, get Dead Space Extraction, it's better than the RE lightgun games.

First a note to the OP: Every time I hear someone is playing through RE4 Wii for the first time, it makes me jealous. The game is great, and some of the set pieces are wonderfully designed. Hope you enjoy the game as much as I did!

Now, a bunch of small, friendly disagreements coming out...

RE0 isn't the best in the series, but it's still good fun. (I haven't finished the game yet, so maybe the ending ruins that... but I strongly doubt it.) The character switching works well enough and is an interesting twist to the series. The biggest problem I had was that this game just wasn't very innovative or as tense as others in the genre.

The Wii version of Resident Evil 1 is decent but the Gamecube version is better.

Everything I had read was that it's exactly the same as the Gamecube version. It's supposed to be a straight port from graphics to controls to gameplay. Why do you say one is better than the other?

This really depends on what you want. Dead Space Extraction is very slow paced. It's tencse, exciting and well-made... but if you want action (or a game that you can't beat in a short rental period) then you might be better off going with the RE Chronicles games. Not putting either game down - I happily own both.

Well, 0 had terrible controls (even for a Resident Evil game) and the character switching mechanic made the game slow down even slower than the Resident Evil games pre-Resident Evil 4. It made the game more of a boring chore than a tense survival horror game. The Wii version's controls are even more horrid and no one should buy the Wii version of 0, stick with the GameCube if someone must have it. It's not like the Wii version of RE1 which was still good, 0 was a mess. Compare it with Code Veronica or RE2 and even the original 0 fails to capture what those previous titles did.

The Wiimake of RE1 is essentially identical like you said but the game runs in 4:3 on the Wii version and 16:9 widescreen on the Gamecube version. Not a big deal but the GCN version ran smoother for me on my TV and looked a bit better. Just a matter or preference. The main problem with the RE1 Wii version is that it was $30 and nothing was really changed or added. It was essentially too much for a remake of an 8 year old game of a remake of a 14 year old game. It doesn't hold up in this gen like the GCN version did last gen. Better off just getting a used, cheaper copy of the GCN version for those who haven't played it because the Wii version is still above $20, which is still too much for essentially an outdated game, even though it's good, it still comes with all the old problems of RE.

I liked DS: Extraction more than the RE lightgun games because it dared to do something new. The RE games did bring back memories of RE2 and Veronica, which was nice.

All good responses. Nothing wrong with holding slightly different opinions.

I still don't understand the issue with RE1 controls on Wii since you can use a GameCube controller if desired. The newer control methods might not be an improvement, but having more options doesn't hurt. (Whether those options are worth paying for is a different question all together.)

Also, I can't find anything supporting your claims that RE on GameCube runs in either 480p or Widescreen mode. More to the point, all evidence I see online and from looking at my copy of the GameCube version indicates the exact opposite: neither graphical option is supported. This appears to be a 4:3 game no matter what system you play it on... unless your TV is incorrectly stretching the image which would look odd to say the least.

In the end this is nitpicking. I tend to agree with your suggestion that buying whichever is least expensive is the best option for RE1, since they are essentially the same game.

Some of the Boss Battles on RE4 are just amazing...

And as for other games in the series I only have a Wii,PS2 and a N64 and I don't plan on getting a new system any time soon.

Yeah...

Retro Resident Evil games have pretty awful camera angles. Most of the puzzles are a bit... unexpected, to say the least. Capcom already made a remade Resident Evil for the GCN, right? Why can't they remake one of the originals to the Wii/360/PS3 with a more up-to-date camera system? I'm sure many fans would be both appreciative and happy of Capcom's decisions.
