Topic: NSMBW what character instead?

I find it strange that people can't imagine Wario and Waluigi helping. They aren't necessarily evil, they're just greedy. If there was a reward involved, they'd help in a heartbeat. They'd probably even do it just for the fame.

BTW, during a release party, a Nintendo employee told Destructoid that the Yellow one was called Ala-Gold and the Blue one Bucken-Berry. Could be a joke of course since it's nothing official. But I would prefer Yvan and Yellow instead of these two names.

Obviously who they truly need is the greatest videogame hero of all time. They should have bought the rights to use...um...can't remember his name...from the Half-Life games.

As I was scrolling through this topic I was starting to think that nobody was going to mention that one. It's true that he is older and doesn't seem the adventurous type though. Still, it's an option.

As for Wario and Waluigi.... Yeah, maybe they could've thrown in some reason to dangle some gold and prizes in front of them as encouragement. The opening where Peach gets kidnapped would need some tweaking or maybe even a change of scenery though. (Make it a sports event instead of a birthday party to explain why they're even there in the first place?) I mean, Mario and Luigi will run off to help as soon as they see Peach get kidnapped, but Wario and Waluigi won't do a thing until someone offers them some compensation for their time.

Actually, I can kind of see a way where they could do all of that in a nice quick fashion like what they actually went with. Let's say that Peach won the race or whatever they're doing, and out comes a giant trophy full of gold... Bowser and minions pop out and grab her and run away... Then you see thought bubbles over everyone's heads. Mario and Luigi are concerned about losing the princess, Wario is concerned about losing the gold, and Waluigi is concerned about losing the trophy. They all run off at once to save those things.

yeah, but I doubt Mario would get anywhere by jumping on zombies...

Naw, that's Giant Bowser. Giga Bowser from Melee/Brawl is what I'm talking about. Thoroughly evil and about half the screen high. Goombas take one look and start running away. Broken to hell and never gonna happen, but I'd love to play it.

Oh, that Giga bowser. That would be a much harder boss fight than giant bowser.

I think there should be 1 toad, and to replace another toad, a Yoshi. Im surprised they didnt do that in the first place anyways.

I think the reason they didn't go with Waluigi and Wario is that, first of all, Wario already has his own platforming franchise, and Waluigi is too tall--it'd be unfair if one play had a height advantage. I think it would've been cool if they would've made a completely new character, but I'm one of the few who actually likes the toads.

I like Toads,its just its kinda getting me ticked off how there in EVERY SINGLE Mario game.

They're characters in the franchise! Mario, Luigi, and Peach are in EVERY SINGLE Mario game, too.

@kid_a I love the toads, and I wish you could be them as player one. I get tired of mario, in games where I get to pick, I always pick someone other than mario [normally yoshi or boo]

@Kanrakus: a couple people have mentioned this, so i just thought i would go ahead and say it... if they included yoshi as a playable character, they couldn't have used him in the levels. having yoshi ride yoshi? REALLY?!

@bro2dragons right, it means that only one person could be Yoshi, instead of 4. Also, they would have to give yoshi an advantage in jumping [flutterjump]. You can't just not make Yoshi Flutterjump. He has flutterjumped in just about every game he has been in.

Yeah, they should have used Mii's. That totally makes sense. Shrink a mii down to Mario's size put on the mandatory hat (or mushroom cap) mustache, whatever, and i bet they don't look too different from the main cast. Nintendo could have let gamers "be" Mario (or a Mario brother, or toad). It wasn't a problem for Mario Kart. Other characters that would have been fun...a hammer brother, peach, bowser, the penguin, wario, NOT waluigi because i just don't like him, a coin...

It would be cool, but I would want just the mii, no extra hat or mustache. My cool panda wouldn't look very nice with a mustache.
