Topic: NSMBW what character instead?

@skywake we were never complaining [well, at least I wasn't] we were just discussing what character would actually work. I do agree with you that everyone should be thankful that there actually is a 3rd and 4th player. I find it original enough that Nintendo made a 2d Mario platformer simultaneous 4-player.

ok, that's fine. I was just trying to say that I can't think of anything (other than maybe making a third and fourth Mario) that would have worked better than the toads. The toads are perfectly fine as toads.

I think this point, even if its not being used like that here, has just been an excuse for people to complain about the Wii. Its the typical strawman's argument.

I always thought toads were gender neutral (like kirby) until Toadette in Mario Kart. Maybe that's why Toadette isn't canon yet? Who knows? I think the reason they didn't do different play mechanics for different characters was to make the game an enjoyable single player too. They didn't want to have any parts where you'd need to use all four players unique moves to pass. That could be a cool mechanic to collect all the star coins or something as a bonus in a sequel though.

Toadsworth. He has the same body shape as toad so that shouldn't effect the gameplay.

Mabye an original character.

Knowin Nintendo it coudl have been, Mario, Dr Mario, Baby Mario, Mario Mario...... Nintendo Originality

I would like somebody to make sense of that plot!

@qwerty Toadsworth is a very old toad, and he generally asks mario to go find the princess.
@skywake I completely agree with you. People also complain that Yoshi is only in a few levels. AT LEAST he is in the game at all!

They should have made new members of the Mario family maybe cute younger female Mario Cousins or Mario Sisters.

How about a game where you can be either Wario or Waluigi and you must rescue Bowser from Mario and Luigi? Something about being Wario and squashing Toads by jumping on their heads makes me smile.

Heres another interesting thing about the toads. What should the toads' names be? IGN's review said they made up names, but they never said what they were.

I'd have love to see Mario, Luigi, Peach, and Toad a la SMB2, but, since Peach was kidnaped, the could at least have put Daisy instead.

@twilight+crow me too, but I only watch 3 video reviews every 2 months. I don't want the horribleness of IGN rubbing off on me. I can't attempt to click on an IGN link... it might prove too much for my anti-trash shields

Yvan en Wolley are there names.

It is a shame Peach was not included then the entire Mario 2 crew would be present. I thought Wario would have been a great fit for the 4th character.

I think that Mush-head and frog-face sound much more respectful. Wolley is for robots, and the toads are much better than robots.

Well Nintendo didn't name them (another lazy thing) and I think making a real character out of them with there own personality would to wonders connecting to the game.

IGN found out that the two toads appeared before in Sunshine on the GameCube (picture below):
