Topic: New to Monster Hunter

Hello all,

Prior to hearing about Monster Hunter Tri coming to the Wii, I had just about zero knowledge of anything related to the game. Now, after seeing the videos/pics, I'm pretty much hooked and can't wait for it to come out on Tuesday.

That said, I'm trying to "study up" as much as I can before then. Are there any tips I should know before getting into it?

Also, I'm thinking of starting out with one of the bowguns...Is this a good starting point for a "noob" like me, or should I go with one of the melee weapons?

I suggest you read the Monster Hunter Tri wiki to learn about weapons, items, etc.

As for the weapon choice, ur on ur own. I'm starting off with a melee weapon (probably a long sword), but I might switch to bowgun.

best weapon for noobs ? sword and shield but keep looking for other weapons maybe bowgun is your type

Does anyone like the remote and nunchuck control for this?If you do or do not, why?

Ive never played one but some one recons the first 5-8 hours is a bit s**t then it gets very addictive.

The controls aren't horrible, but using items and such can be irritating when in the middle of a battle. If you can, go with a CC or CC Pro.

ONM say the best weapon to start with is the Sword and Shield. But I'm going with either the Bowgun or the Switch Axe.

I played it today for a couple of hours and made a point of asking for Wii-mote and Nunchuk, the reps were somewhat surprised. I have Wavebirds all over the place and am angry they haven't supported GC. Why should I buy a CC just for one game? Especially when it's obvious that Nintendo and Capcom are using the game as a vehicle to sell more CC's. Considering I am a major Monster Hunter noob I coped just fine and was telling them the controls at times.

We shall see how long that lasts when I get my copy next week. Which, right now feels like a long ways away, the game is really really good, I had a blast. Can't wait to sink my teeth in a proper.

@Machu: I played the demo again and finally beat the 1st monster. I hadn't played that much (maybe a few days here and there all together). It was cool when it finally started limping so I could see I was making progress. So I chased it into the cave and it was sleeping, I guess, so of course I did the "honorable thing" .........attacked the crap out of it!

Congrats! If your like me, you'll try beating it again until you get really good at killing the Great Jaggi.

As for the Qurupeco... I still can't beat it

I wish I had a demo-disc to keep me sane this week. Why not NoE? Why?!?!?

Ok, so its not really a class, but you can switch to a different weapon at any point? You don't have to make a new character, or am I wrong?

@Machu: Hopefully we'll get a chance to play together when you do get it. You got Wii speak? I just bought EO2 because it was 30 $ for that with Wiispeak.

Well. I have to watch my nieces later that day, so I wont be playing online till maybe that night. Of course I could work out on the story mode first.
Anyone going right online?

I probably will, but only to get my code. I'll be making progress via offline mode for a little bit.

I just hope that people wont get so powerful that it wont feel like it matters if I'm there. Had that on a Crystal Chronicles game (I just got rid of that, had the wii one. Maybe I'll get the DS version later, as it was really made for that.

I watched all the awesome Nintendo Channel videos last night, it looks proper h-core later on. I was examining the fights and trying to figure if mote-nunchuk control would suffice. I'm going back on what I said and buying a CC. :/ Even though I have wavebirds and GC pads, which are EXACTLY THE SAME THING!!!
