In my opinion SMW is the better game, in terms of everything (graphics, game play, music, replayability etc. etc.)I’m comparing both by today’s standards, as I hadn’t really played SMW until recently and I reckon SMW is the better game. Now, if Nintendo had added all the stuff other posters have mentioned, then it might be a different story.
You are not comparing my todays standards. For its time, yes, SMW had better graphics than NSMBW does for its time, but if you are going by Today's standards, then there is no way you can honestly say that SMW is better graphically than NSMBW.

Well the graphics on SMW are very charming, whereas the graphics in NSMBW are pretty uninspiring. There's not really a massive difference but a lot can be said for hand drawn sprites. Maybe I'm just wierd but I also think Super Castlevania and Contra 3 look better than their ReBirth counterparts and also Sonic looked better on the megadrive than he does on the new trailer for Sonic 4. Sorry I digress, but yes I can say that the graphics on SMW are better, because to me they look more pleasing than on NSMBW.
There is certainly a lot to be said for hand drawn sprites. Too bad Super Mario World isn't hand drawn.
But even ignoring the "hand drawn" part, you're still not using "today's standards." Today's standard is 3D, not 2D. Even side-scrolling games are mostly drawn in 3D.
Not that I disagree in the end: If we exclude Yoshi's Island, SMW is definitely my favorite Mario game visually, but it has nothing to do with today's standards.

I feel the same way about SMB3, preferring the 8-bit graphics over the 16-bit graphics remakes.
