Topic: New Super Mario Bros Wii - losing it?

I just posted a thread in the DS section complaining about the excitement and energy of Spirit Tracks.. So in the same Spirit, here goes:

I haven't touched NSMBW since the beginning of December. I unlocked all coins in all areas and everything. I'm done. I wish Nintendo would focus energy on their next games longevity. How bout a second quest with harder enemies like the first SMB? or a level editor so that we the people can challenge each other to new ideas and platforming like Little Big Planet does? Why not?

$50 bucks for a game. Next time Ill just rent it from my local library for free and beat it in the 2 days it took me and a few more to get all the coins. What a bummer. I hope Galaxy 2 is better than this bloody box.

A lot of Nintendo's good games are short, but I'll take quality over quantity any day. It would be nice to have both though...

Uh oh. He's back.

Jeez you're a downer. Nope, I'm still playing NSMBW (as I am with Spirit Tracks). The multiplayer is what adds to the longevity, and I personally still haven't gotten all the star coins. And why would Nintendo want to rip off LittleBigPlanet?

I ran out of steam half-way through, just kinda sorta lost interest actually. It's not bad by any means, it just didn't grip me as it seems it did a lot of other people.

This. I also haven't found all of the Star Coins yet. I do agree that a second quest would've been awesome, though.

Its not ripping off from LBP, its borrowing from Mario Vs Donkey Kong among many other games like N+ and other games that allows you to create user content. Lode Runner..etc.. Mario would be a great game for user content don't you think? Ive always wanted it and maybe Nintendo knows this and they area waiting to play that card.. I just hope they will soon. Thanks though for your input.

If Nintendo ripped off some of LBP's features, NSMB Wii would have been an even better game with unlimited replay value.

If you ask me, it depends completely on the person. If you are creative, you can challenge yourself to do things like speedruns, no item runs, etc. I myself just recently did a speedrun. I managed to get to the final boss and beat it in about 30 minutes. I do agree that a level creator would have been cool, though.

Just let it happen.

Speak for yourself. I have finished the whole star coins one month ago and I still play it sometimes I like to play 10 levels mixed from other worlds or only the bosses and so on. Level editor? bleah who on earth would like that in a mario game?

Machu

I've only played it in co-op with my bro, when we can (2 coins to go). I've yet to even start in single player. Woot!

As for longevity, this is one of those games that is just sooooo good the first time through, that I feel I have already had my money's worth, and more.

A level editor would have been nice yes, even just the ability to record and send videos to other Wii owners would have been nice, but hey, we didn't get it. Hard cheese!

Multiplayer makes it a new game every time. I've played it with a great variety of people now (gamer friends, non-gamer friends, older family, younger family), and the dynamics of the game turn out completely different every time, ranging from aggressive play to hilarious co-op where I just try to keep everyone alive long enough to complete the level. Good stuff.

Twitter is a good place to throw your nonsense.

My problem then is that I dont have people in my life that want to play.. Maybe when my son is a few more years older we could pull this game back out..

But critics would have wrote it off as a LittleBitPlanet ripoff. I think a level creator would be a great idea (and would work a lot better in a Mario game, since you wouldn't have to deal with putting things in 3 different plains like in LittleBigPlanet) but I see why Nintendo didn't do it.

I tend to agree but with this game, its the first time I felt a bit of slop. Let me explain. There were some levels that had great ideas but you only see it once. Like that fire level where you are basically on a roller coaster. All that code was written for the mechanics and it was used once!!!!.. Also, Yoshi was hardly needed.. It wasnt even an integral part of the game.. You also could not carry him from place to place. You lose him at the flag pole. Which means that the dev team didnt want to cater all levels to work with a Yoshi in it. Super Mario World on the other hand had to. And it was amazing game.
Music is recycled completely. I heard songs from the past games but I cant seem to remember any new songs. I think the whole game was a recycled game in the music department. That to me is Cutting a major corner, in my book. Great mario music to me is part of the new game experience and if you are gonna name your game New Mario, then by all means, compose NEW music for crying out loud..

Im not as mad as you might expect.

Quality over quantity. Make some friends and play it with them. Or replay it after a couple of months.

Well i guess im complaining because i remember the games of the past, Super Mario World, for example, being Quality AND Quantity
