Rathian Plate, how do you get this thing?! XD I took down two Rathians and got some rare stuff, but no plate! Gah! (need armor)
It's only a 3% drop rate. You can get it from cutting of the tail and carving it or through the quest rewards. Either way cross your fingers cause it takes awhile. The best piece of advice I can give is to stop caring. When you are trying to get something it will not pop up. Though the second you give up hope or a care for it.......there it is.
@Chicken Brutus: Yea. I actually liked the one where the Lagi pops up (Definately an ooh Crap moment.)..And yea it was a time trying to get the rest of the guts. I don't think he ever caught me though. Did he catch you? Anyways. Hope I run across you online. I'm first level online and I think on 3 star quests offline. You didn't end up getting wiispeak did you? I got mine with that Endless Ocean for 30. Talked to one kid but couldn't understand alot of what he was saying.
I am curious about something...this is an action RPG, right? With an optional online component. Is it in any way similar to stuff like FFXI, but less convoluted? That's the vibe MH3 gives me.
No, this isn't an MMO, there's no level grinding to speak of. It's more like Phantasy Star Online or Diablo, where you join a lobby and play with a group of people. You "grind" monsters and items, though there's not really any grind because fighting is so darn fun and challenging.
And it's not even really an action RPG such as an action game with RPG elements. There are no levels or experience points, your stats won't increase as you progress (except from equipment and temporary item usage). There are no classes - only different weapons. But boy are the weapons totally different in play style. The way you progress is through upgrading and customising your weapons and armour - although the real progression is in your skill at playing the game. Trust me, it's quite a unique game.

That's not necessarily true. Hunter Rank is easy compared to Experience Points, even if it only effects your progression through quests online and not your stats.
@JayArr: ....Happens to me a lot, lol. Well I may end up trying the capturing method on free hunt first, if nothing...then moving on. Still gotta find some new armor to replace Gobul.

Keep it PG-13-ish.

Personally, I'd go with Lagia armor...(And did)
That extra element damage is sexy.
Though, I recommend actually building several sets of armor because when you hit high rank quests, you'll want some variety in resists and an easy set to update for extra armor. For example, I built a bunch of sets for the sake of making armor sets and when I hit + quests online, I was able to update the Rathian armor set to the + set after 3 kills (And I farm her for HR anyway). I jumped from 130ish armor to 280 almost instantly and now + quests are that much easier. Plus, the earplugs are nice, and the 25 Fire resist will come in handy for farming Rathalos.
@BellGoRiiing - Wait until you get to High Rank. Every weapon or armor set takes a few super rare drops. It can drive you crazy, Makes you really feel like you earned it though when its complete.
Tonight I plan on doing some Great Jaggi runs Naked. Just me weapon and my undies. Well I'll probably wear my Great Jaggi Mask for the lulz.
EDIT: I mean my character in the game having no armor. Not me playing the game w/o clothes. sheesh get your mind out of the gutter.
Slayed the Giant Jaggi. Pretty awesome fight. Can't wait for upcoming ones.
QUEEN OF SASS
It's like, I just love a cowboy
You know
I'm just like, I just, I know, it's bad
But I'm just like
Can I just like, hang off the back of your horse
And can you go a little faster?!
Well, after weeks on-line I finally tore myself away to complete the off-line game. My guy was a little over powered though. I killed a Lagi w/o having to replishening my air or sharpen my weapon. It didn't even make it out of the first area alive! The alst battle is some epicness.
Well I finally made it to HR 18 (with my 2 star quests all completed). Haven't gone to the volcano yet, but I did finally manage to slay that annoying Gigginox. Now I just need to Capture a Rathian and defeat Lagiacrus and my Offline 4 Star quests are complete.
Edit: The first time I encountered Lagiacrus I actually managed to record it in my Monster List.
FINALLY managed to capture a great jaggi, piece of cake with the Peco gun filling his scaly ass full of flame shells, a flash bomb to distract him and then tranqing him down.
Capturing things is a pain. I was going awesome, getting close to capturing a Qurupeco in that 3* quest, then all of a sudden a massive Rathian (which I had never seen before) lands and kills me in one hit with a fire ball. Wasnt very happy.
Luckily I captured the stupid bird right as the Rathian landed again. Take that monsters.
Does the Pink Liver have any use?. I don't wanna eat it, but am wary of selling them
I hardly ever see the sparkly bits for Rare Commodities. Anyone got any tips on finding more? There be stuffz I want but I never have the goods to trade. :/
I was already feeding him Well-Done Steaks and tricking salivating monsters with laced meat, but didn't know what to do with the livers. Cha-Cha will be very happy, thanks!
As for the commodities, I'm all over normal trade, it's Rare-Trade I'm struggling with. I'll be patient, kill more large monsters, and keep looking for sparkly areas. But again, thanks!!
i find as awesome as the game is the size nowhere near matches the scale of monster hunter freedom unite in terms of content, id say its about half the size but i do love the underwater aspect of the game. If you have played prior monster hunter games its pretty much second nature with the combination list being a tad different but still an awesome game and easier to play online too. To those new to the whole thing, and are having difficulty with a certain beastie the 1st thing you must do is get to know the beasts movements your hunting, how it will behave and what element its weakest to. what bombs affect said beastie? sonic, flash or dung bombs? demon drugs and armour potions help with attack and def, can be a life saver and can make the battle easier, max life potions help/mega nutrients help with maxxing your life. If your having trouble there is a sure fire way to reduce that monsters life, bring pitfall traps and shock traps and components to make more traps, might wanna bring combo books with you to increase combo chance. bombs, big ones and little ones. trap said beastie, 2 big bombs one small one, even better if their + bombs. More boom for your buck:) a real nasty piece of work may require you to not only bring bombs but also items to make more bombs, this an a decent sharp weapon- im a blademaster tends to win the day in my opinion, oh and wearing armour that has a protection to the elemental damage the monster outputs helps allot. mega pots and pots are essential and a high damage weapon helps all the more- keep your blade sharp, a blunt weapon is a bad weapon:)
