@Chucko Any SnS can take down Great Jaggi easily. It'll go down faster with other weapons (possibly) but SnS is the most versatile and manueverable.
@Machu I did the current event quest with 3 others and we won. It wasn't hard because we brought Goldenfish Bait. A Royal Ludroth appeared but in another area, thankfully. You get a lot of talismans if you win, and they're pretty good.

So far, I've found that SnS is VERY good for land-based quests and Bowgun for water-based ones. I'm VERY early on in the game, mind.
@HolyMackerel: Oooh, sounds yummy, I'll have to recruit a couple of people next time I try. I had goldfish bait on me (caught three with one too), but getting the rest of the stuffs was tight. And yeah, having matey-boy swimming around didn't help.
@All: My item box is becoming a bit monstrous, a page and a half so far. If I re-order everything for ease of use, will the change be permanent or will it revert next time I sort? Thanks.
Got a real big issue with this game, I simply cannot read the text. I guess there is no way to make the font bigger or clearer. And all this in a 42" TV.
I know what you mean about the text ,its readable on my LCD but is far from comfortable. It kinda looks like how a HD game does on CRT. Man would I love to see this game in HD. Not had a chance to go on it today (damn real life always getting in the way!) but tonight I'm having an all nighter . Still not got my head around all this combining malarky but i shall learn ,oh yes!!
Funny you mention the second point. I was just reading about the decision to go to Wii and it's all rather vague. Whatever the reason, I get the feeling this will turn out to be a fantastic move for both Capcom and Nintendo.
I was just looking for some Monster Hunter art so I could tart up my backloggery, and found a picture of the two hunters who were at the MHTri event I went to. Awesome!
Well...guess I'm gonna go and try to take down Barroth or whatever now. Would like to know where to find these Armor Spheres+, apparently I can't use regular spheres now.

Keep it PG-13-ish.

Play off-line until you beat Lagiacrus. Then you will unlock the Volcano Area. You can mine Armor Sphere+ and Adv. Armor Sphere like no bodies business.
It took me a little under 30 hours to unlock 5 star though.
Hello everyone, I could really do with some basic advice. I've literally just started playing the game, just finished the gathering mushrooms quest (the very first proper quest) and I've got a few questions. Reading this thread I found out your progress on online and offline quests is totally separate. With this in mind, how would you guys recommend playing? Straight online to the city? Get some practice offline first? I just don't know how to balance the two sides of the game yet. I've got a friend in a similar place, we'd like to play together online. It seems a waste to play offline when I've got a friend to team up with, but on the other hand single player makes for good practice. Anyway, enough rambling on, what do you guys think?
"I had to take the young general, I couldn't turn out the holy man, I couldn't stop the wind from blowing and the air from being as clear as crystal; and I couldn't hide the mountain."

I'm trying to get to grips with single player primarily, as there seems to be sooo much to take in. Saying that, I have been online also and have met and bested beasties I couldn't have possibly hoped to on my own. If you and your friend want to meet up online, do so, at least that way you can both clear up the easy quests, earning and learning at the same time.
