Other M is great on its own merit. Anyone who's played it with an open, unbiased mind agrees. I always saw it was the missing link (style-wise) between SNES era Metroid and the Prime series.
I love Other M.

A Latin insult? Respect!

Actually I bought this day one and was more excited about it than any other video game in existence. It just failed (for me) on sixty million levels. Now if it only failed on fifty nine million nine hundred and ninety nine thousand nine hundred and ninety nine levels, I might have forgiven it, but alas...
don't take me too seriously. sure it's worth five bucks, but it's just too much fun to make fun of.

this is one of the few nintendo titles released that has caused more division, as well as mixed reactions from people than any other title. LoZ twilight princess's response from fans was also mixed; however most of it was in favour of the game.

many of the criticisms stemmed from the storyline, to how the storyline was dealt with, as well as how sakamoto portrayed samus. after all, he was the creator of the game and it was his idea to make her more emotional and to give her feelings. which she never had before, or of which we never really saw in previous games. as for team ninja, they were involved in the gameplay aspects; however, it was they who developed this game-not nintendo, not retro. some of the faults in this game were of their own doing.

like i said many times, other M was a good game, but NOT a metroid game. it didn't have the same ambiance as before- for many fans, prime 1 and super metroid are the 2 best games in the series. however, other M looked great, sounded great and it tried to be different.

having said that, i'd rather have retro studios, wayforward or nintendo developing the next metroid games than team ninja.

Think of how awesome M:OM would have been as a 3DS game though. The linearity and compact feel to the gameplay would have translated over to the handheld medium perfectly and I feel like had it not been for the clunky "point and shoot" of the Wii remote for shooting missiles and no analog stick to move around the environments, the game would have played great. If they do a sequel and Team Ninja is still involved, I'd like to see one on 3DS.

Anyhow, yeah, this thread is about how it's on sale for 4.99; anyone who has played a Metroid game before and hasn't played Other M, it would be pretty insulting to the people who made it if you didn't at least check it out. That's an insanely low price for this game.

When I close my eyes, I see pixilated blood.

I was searching this one, But I think I don't need it right now: I've got Skyward Sword.

Never got what all the hate was for. Yeah, I didn't like the story. I disliked having to get authorized to use the most basic stuff. I just ignored the story, and took the authorization as if I were finding items. It's the same thing, really. The only problems I had were the controls, specifically missiles. I got used to the controls after awhile, although I never liked using the D-Pad to move. The only thing I really loathed was the stupid areas where you were stopped cold and had to search the area for some random small thing. I've spent hours on the search sections.

If you can look past it's flaws (although whether or not it is flawed at all is a matter of perspective) then Other M was a pretty good game. It gets way too much hate, considering how many way worse games are out there. I guess because it had a good amount of hype, and thus pretty high expectations, which weren't met for some players, it'll get bashed forever.

it didn't help when that female reviewer on G4 ranted about how samus was taking orders from a commanding officer by turning it into a sexism issue. please, she's supposed to after all. she was hired by the galactic federation. and in fusion, she turns her back on them.

it is flawed, but many of them, especially G4 reacted as if it was the worst game in history, which it isn't.

There's nothing left. :3
sorry, I thought the gameplay was only marginally better than the story.

Ya'll, the reason it got so much flak was because it's an arguably mediocre game in one of the best video game series ever. That's the long and short of it.

I saw other M at gamestop the other day for 8 bucks.
I couldn't believe a Nintendo game only a year old would be selling for that cheap.
You'd be lucky to find something like Mario Kart double dash for less than 35 used.
Did people really hate Other M soo much that it's being dumped in the bargain bin for the price of a hamburger? I don't understand all the hate either.
I guess some people really don't like change.

I loved this game. Just picked up a copy on amazon for about $17.00 since I missed the best buy sale. So if you missed the Best Buy sale you can still get a good price if you shop around. I would check it out. Ignore the internet nay sayers and just enjoy it.

The only real complaint I had was the music or lack of.
Only Ridley's theme stood out and the rest was barely noticable.
The cutscenes were actually pretty impressive nevermind the silly dialog and Samus looked hotter than ever! I never saw her as the stone cold killer everybody else thinks she should be. If she were that way she wouldn't have spared the baby Metroids life at the end of Metroid 2.

I never thought of her as a stone cold killer. That doesn't mean she has to be more insecure than a chihuahua in a thunderstorm. :3

Seriously, who really thought Samus was a stone cold killer? It seems like the people who like the game just like to say that about the people who don't. At least that's what I've seen... so many times. Grr. u___u

Definitely an underrated game. People always complain that Nintendo doesn't do anything new or take risks with their established franchises... but, um, they do all the time? So I'd much rather a game that tries something different and gets mixed reaction than the same ol' thing. The side-scrolling into first-person mechanic is still such a cool idea, works pretty well imo.

Just finished this game well, up until "going back" and my thoughts are overall this game was pretty good. Probably my least favorite Metroid game so far but still a good game. I thought I was playing Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 again more so than a Metroid game. As for the protrayal of Samus I had absolutely no problem with it. Admittedly it took a little getting used to at first but it was fine after I got into the game. As for the original topic, if you can find this game for anything under $40, let along $4.99 it is definitely worth it.

To blessed to be stressed.

I always thought people have been too cynical with this game, they have been actually looking for flaws in the wrong places: monologues, @$$ shots (coming from people who liked MadWorld it's ridiculous!), characters' psychology // script and that stupid feminist discussion etc. The game is good — not the best Metroid on Wii but good in its own right.

ah and you really start to appreciate neverending cutscenes once you start smoking, that's how I got the vice.

Top-10 games I played in 2017: The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild (WiiU) - Rogue Legacy (PS3) - Fallout 3 (PS3) - Red Dead Redemption (PS3) - Guns of Boom (MP) - Sky Force Reloaded (MP) - ...

i'd rather have a 2-D, 3rd person side scrolling metroid on the 3DS and a first-person, prime-type game for the wii U.
