So how is everybody enjoying it so far? The last time I got my hands on MM4 was actually quite a while ago, yet I managed to get an actual copy of it for my Nes not too long ago, but I never slipped it in my Nes to give it a go because I wanted to get it off the Wii VC due to getting a clearer/sharper image. And what do you know, it's finally here

Anyways, playing it now is definitly bringing back some memories. I remember when i was 7 or 8 i came back from one of my friends house, and ended up renting MM4 and Where's Waldo(don't ask) for the Nes at my Local Video Store...I remeber liking MM4, but it began to grow tiresome and typical. It lacked the magic of MM2... Yet suprisingly I ended up playing Where's Waldo alot more...Crazy I know

Anyways, I've probably put an hour or so in it already and have 2 more Robot Masters to go, and then a couple of Castles
As of now, I think NintendoLife's review is dead on. The charger SFX is annoying, the music is just decent, yet ear grating at times. And that akward moment when a Robot Master chargers up their health bar which whipes out the Boss theme was a stupid bone head of a move on Capcoms part. Anyways, for me this game is alittle more in tune with MM2. Since It's more colorful and vibrant than the darker toned MM3. And I prefer most of the Robot masters as well except the ridiculous Dust Man and the generic Ring and Drill man. So far, I've only been dissapointed by a few stages. Which are Dust, Drill and maybe Skull man's which are overall pretty bland. The rest are pretty good, and offer some decent challenge.

So far it's definitly a 7/10...It aint' bad, but it aint great. Especially after finishing MM10, MM4 is a bit of a dissapointment, yet still good fun. Hell I even prefer it over MM3 in ways, but as of now it's too hard to say. But back to the music....Out of the 8 Robot Masters i can't name one classic track, it all ranges from mediocre to decent. Dive man's is probably the best. And you've gotta love the Boss theme which is just pure bad ass. Anyways, so what do you guy's think so far? As for me I'm alot more excited to get my hands on MM5....MM6 not so much.

For my money, Dive Man's theme is up there with the all-time best MM music. But...not any of the others, sadly. :/

This was the last MM game I played when it was new, and I didn't really have much memory of it, so I downloaded it expecting very little. I can say that I'm pleasantly surprised by how fun the game is. It's nowhere near Mega Man 2 or 9, but it's probably up there with 3 or 10 in my book. I'm enjoying it, even though I'm having a heck of a darn time getting Ring Man's pattern down. I suck against him.

I do dislike the charge shot. I never end up using it, except to get a quick, easy hit on the boss as soon as the fight begins, and against enemies that require it, like the Skeleton Joes. But whatever...the game is fun, and better than I remember it being. I'll be quick to grab 5 and 6 if they come to the VC, as I don't think I've played them before, and 7, as I think that one gets a bad rap when it's actually a really fun game.

Yep, I dislike the charge shot as well, it just never felt satisfying to use and became too overpowering. As for Ring man, he's definitly alittle tricky. I found out that once his Second ring comes back to him don't shoot at him, because he'll unleash another one on you as he's running and you have next to no chance in dodging it. As for MM7...That's definitly my most anticipated VC release as it's the only classic MM game I've never played yet.

Digiki

It's easily the best MM game on the VC, (although I've yet to play 10, but I doubt it's up there)

Blech. Not a huge fan of 16-bit Mega Man.

I definitely agree on the charge shot as well. You're given a charge shot to make you more powerful... but then all the enemies get more HP, forcing you to use the charge shot. Seems like a flawed concept imo.

MM4 is not a bad game, but 2 and 3 are certainly better.

And....Pharaoh Man?

Pharoah still beats Dust man...I don't know who's idea that was. lol
And Toad man gets a bad rap...Sure he's nowhere near as cool as MM3's Snake man, but his level and catchy tune aren't too bad. Yet the fight against him on the otherhand is a joke.

Says you.
MM9 and MM2 blow the crap out MM4 it's not even funny.

I like MM7. It feels a little bit like Mega Man Jr., but that's not such a bad thing. I have fun with it, and it at least attempts to use Robot Master weapons in interesting ways, which breaks the monotony a bit, and can affect your desired path through the stages based on something other than simple boss-weakness.

Also, I like Dust Man. :/ Don't understand the bad rap he gets!

I like Dust Man, too. I don't find 4's robot masters any worse than previous games. Not a fan of Mega Man Jr. at all though.

Come on, friends,
To the bear arcades again.

Digiki

Well MM9 blows crap if that's what you mean. MM2 on the other hand is half awesome, half crap blowing...

Look I'm MM2 and my Wily Stages all really suck, Crash's Man stage does too D:

Crash man's stage 'and' his theme are terrible, not to mention MM2's Wily Stages are pretty damn bland I'll give you that, but they have memorable and great Bosses. That Dragon scared the crap out of many people when it all of the sudden showed up out of nowhere while you're hoping from tiny platform to tiny platform. Then there's the giant Guts Man, and the memorable fight against that Wily Alien.

Anyways, MM2 overall is one of the best....But I have a feeling you came late in the game, was MM6 your first 'go' at the franchise? I think alot of people cling to MM2 because it just did everything right, and the stage design and Robot Masters and especially the music were amazing for it's time. Anyways, as far as which MM has the best Wily stages, MM9 easily takes the cake Not to mention the music for MM9's Wily's stages are all amazing and beat out the overated MM2 Wily Stage 1 theme if you ask me.

MM6 and MM8 are the suckage when it comes to the MM franchise if you ask me. They're actually still enjoyable but they're weak by MM standards

Just finished up beating MM4 today and I have to say overall it was good....I personally would nail it with a 7.5/10. Yet NintendoLife doesn't do .5's so I guess it's a 7. As far as classic tunes stand out, Dive man's and Dr.Kossack Stage 3 theme, along with the Boss theme are the true stand outs among the mediocre to decent tunes which are cleary not up to MM standards and are dissapointing for the most part. I felt Dr.Kosacks stages were much better than Dr.Wily's which were pretty bland in comparison, and all 8 Robot Masters put up a decent to good fight except(you guessed it) Toad Man

Bright, Ring and Pharoh man are the toughest of the 8 Robot Masters if you ask me, while the final Wily fight was a tad on the easy side once you figure out which weapon you're supposed to use, because dodging his single blast attack is oh so easy. But its weird, I'm always mixed on weather I like MM4 or MM3 more. One thing is for sure, MM4 wasn't as enjoyable as MM10. I know my half assed opinion is bland as hell, but that's because i'm too lazy right now to go into detail

I love MM4. It has, in my opinion, the best soundtrack of the entire NES classic series.
It was also the first MM game I ever played.

Toad man's theme won't get out of my damn head, It's annoyingly catchy
Anyways, I'm dieing for MM5 to hit the VC whenever that is, I havent played MM5 in ages....

I beat it last night as well. The fortress stages (both sets of them) were shockingly easy, and, with the exception of the underwater death spike stuff, they rarely even made me nervous. Also: easiest set of fortress bosses EVERRRR.

Still though, it was loads of fun, and I might even like it a little better than I liked 3. I spent a lot of time beating Robot Masters and intentionally dying in the teleporter room so that I could figure out patterns that I wasn't able to before, and so the two RM's who gave me the most trouble the first time through (Dive Man and Ring Man) are now much easier. I can beat Dive Man buster only with no damage, and...I can get Ring Man down to half-health buster only. :/ Not too impressive, that last one, but at least it's progress.

Overall I'm looking forward to playing through it again. I very much enjoyed it...I only wish the music was a little better.

I just finished Mega Man 3 the other day, so this is now on my to-buy list. One question- what is the slowdown like in this game?

Fuzzy, Backloggery.

Philip_J_Reed

I had a few problems with slowdown on certain screens...but it's not as bad as MM3.
