I always download games I already own, 'cause most of the games I already own run on consoles that are in the living room downstairs. If I want to play them in my room, the download fee is necessary. And totally worth it, IMO.
For the few games that I CAN play in my room, I'll usually still download it just because the old consoles run on the crappy old TV UNDER my desk, and I can play the downloads on the LCD ON the desk. They look and sound much nicer that way.
LOL My NES is like that. Since it requires an R/F switch, I use an old portable TV in my room. Perhaps I should just download the games onto my Wii. I'm keeping the NES, though, since there are plenty of games that won't be coming to the VC any time soon.

Technically, the NES doesn't REQUIRE an RF connection...unless you have a toploader. My NES in the living room downstairs is connected with standard AV cables. All the consoles connected to the crappy TV in my room use the same. The Wii, on the other hand, uses Component cables with my LCD. Which is, of course, why I prefer to use the latter.

I have re bought Donkey Kong Country, The Legend of Zelda, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 1-64, Super Mario Kart, SMRPG, Suer Star Wars, Yoshi, and Zelda II.
@Stuffgamer1: I unfortunately have the toploader. However, the R/F switch is its only flaw. The power switch can't wear out like the NES1 power button. Also, locking the game into position is far better than using a pushdown mechanism that can wear out. The NES2 should've sold well, but didn't for several reasons.
1. No A/V cable 2. The games are harder to remove 3. The SNES was in its fourth year and the N64 was already in development.

i've downloaded my favorite games for the sake of getting the best visuals with component and 480p, also because i prefer the CC pro and gamecube controllers to the snes and n64 originals. it's definitely worth it if you love your games; less freezing, no blowing in the cartridges to get them to work, no worn out n64 joystick, no switching cables around for different systems, and again, much better picture in most cases. for games that i only like, i leave it to the old systems. simcity isn't exactly the type of game that needs nice visuals to be fun...
Oh, of course. I recently bought Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic 2, Sonic 3, and Sonic and Knuckles on XBLA. I already own them all on the Genesis and I have Sonic Mega Collection.
Don't regret it one bit. Still fantastic games.
And I can't even tell you how many copies of Mega Man 2 I have.
I've downloaded several games I already owned, then sold the originals since my NES & SNES no longer work, & the N64 controllers analog stick is so bad that I'm down to 1 controller with a good stick, & once that wears out, N64 won't be playable either. Also, I'm getting more then $2 a game, I've made most of the money I've spent on the downloads back. So I'm making room by getting rid of old games for systems that don't work, & in the case of the NES, I don't have to mess with the cartidge & system for about an hour just to get a game to play.
Flandre Scarlet, she's cute, she's colorful, she can blow up entire cities, she's also a vampire. Start running sparklepants.
@StarFox: The lack of AV ports is the only real downside I see to the toploader; it really doesn't make a LICK of sense that they removed those, either. But hey, at least it's more reliable for actually playing the games. I'm on my second NES now; after the first one just got too bad to use, we bought another on eBay. That one worked perfectly for several years, but is now starting to get finicky as well. Sigh.

@Stuffgamer1 and StarFox I got my toploader from a seller on eBay who mods them with AV ports. It is awesome. He also will mod a toploader that you don't buy from him, for about 40 bucks I think. Definitely worth it. Just type "NES Top Loader RCA" at eBay, and you should find him.

@Luigi-La-Bouncy Nothing, since I have sent my Wii in for repair for the 5th time, but it is a nice thought.
Fair enough. I thought maybe you knew something I didn't. e.g. - guaranteed transfer of personal downloads to the next Nintendo home console. Oh well :-/
@Luigi-La-Bouncy I see your point, my statement was kind of dumb. In theory, my Wii should last long enough for the next system to come out with downloadable games, but since my Wii won't last more than a few days, I don't have much hope for anything.

The only game I downloaded that I already own was Majora's Mask and Ocarina, I had the Collectors edition version but it was glitchy, and with Ocarina of time, I downloaded it before I got collectors edtion.

I sold some of my collection that I already had or intended purchasing on download. Kept the licensed games that were boxed and other stuff not likely to come out on VC. Did this mainly because of space issues. I hope my Wii does not become unrepairable in the future as I would lose the lot.I've still got all my original hardware though, wouldn't part with that.
Most games I still have boxed that I already have on VC are ones that are so popular they won't fetch much on ebay. Buyers regard them as hardly not worth the price of the postage.
