Sorry if this has been done before, but do you download games you already have for the original systems?
I'd rather not, since most of the systems are easy to hook up (save for the NES and Genesis, which require R/F outlets). It'd be a waste of money. I understand the convenience of having them all on one system, but I'm not about to sell a game for $2 just to pay $10 to download it.
I have, however, downloaded Donkey Kong Country 3, despite having DKC and DKC2 for the SNES, and Lost Levels, despite having Super Mairo Bros. for NES.
If I'm reviewing them, I download the VC version even though I already own the games. There could always be emulation issues that might need to be addressed. So yeah, most of the VC games I've downloaded, I already own.
On the downside, I hardly ever go back and play any of them ever again. I like to stick to the real deal.
I always download games I already own, 'cause most of the games I already own run on consoles that are in the living room downstairs. If I want to play them in my room, the download fee is necessary. And totally worth it, IMO.
For the few games that I CAN play in my room, I'll usually still download it just because the old consoles run on the crappy old TV UNDER my desk, and I can play the downloads on the LCD ON the desk. They look and sound much nicer that way.
My Backloggery Updated sporadically. Got my important online ID's on there, anyway. :P
I was actually thinking about starting a thread just like this. I've downloaded a few I already own. Super Mario Bros. 1-3 I own on nes carts as well as super mario all-stars but downloaded them anyway. I also own the Sega Genesis version of Zombies ate my Nieghbors but still downloaded the SNES version on VC.
I have a question. Has anyone liked a downloaded VC game so much that they purchased the cart after downloading? I am actually considering doing this with Streets of Rage 2.
I don't like paying more than I have to to play a game that I already own, and I'd much rather play the original anyway, so I do that with very few games. I have downloaded Mario Kart 64, though, because that game is amazing, and back when I downloaded it, my friends and I were still playing it literally 4 hours a day, every day. I also have SMB1-3 and The Legend of Zelda, which I already have.
Yes i do. But in many cases I put off doing so or feel bad about doing so.
Yeah I also feel bad in those cases, wasting money just for have everything in one place, since we already own it, money that can be used for something more worthy.
I have purchased a lot that I already have on cartridge. Playing them on the Wii with an HDTV and component hookup looks much better than my old consoles do... and you also have the save state with the Wii, it's nice to save your spot in games, some of the old games expect you to play through the entire game in one sitting (Rygar for example).
The only game I own in both physical and digital format is The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask.
I sold my Zelda Collector's Edition disc and downloaded Majora's Mask. The disc version was supposed to be inferior because of emulation problems, so I was happy to have a more conveniently accessed version ready to play. But later on I saw another Collector's Edition in great condition for only $15 (significantly less than what I sold for). Hard to turn that deal down since it gave me access to 3 additional Zelda games... so of course I re-purchased.
Still haven't gotten around to play Majora's Mask - I'm only halfway through the Fire Temple in Ocarina of Time from the Collector's Edition disc right now. Will probably use the Virtual Console version to avoid emulation errors, but the disc version is more convenient since it could be played on either our main TV or moved to a secondary TV where an old GameCube console is hooked up.
Lieutenant Commander of the Lesbian Love Brigade
There can only be one, like in that foreign movie where there could only be one, and in the end there is only one dude left, because that was the point.
i've done it. and i'll probably do it again. i like having all of my games in one place on one system. although, it is worth noting that the only retro system i own now is the N64, and it's not really mine, but rather my roomate's, so you could say i'm not downloading games i already own.
