You could say the same thing about Assassin's Creed or CoD. Not only that, but quality has gone pretty low... The industry is full of the same 'ol, that people keep buying,

Really? I think games have been getting better. The fact that people keep buying Assassin's Creed and COD is evidence of their quality. And if people don't like those (of which there are many), then they can buy tons of other games at a wide range of price points.

@Unca_Lz and @ogo79 , still you guys did not "contribute" to the 150k and 500k numbers. I'm talking about people who actually bought the games and do not play them. These 2 games are focused on online, so just playing them offline just doesn't make sense.

Oh well in that case, don't mind me then

I thought they were high quality, too, for a while. Hit boxes still aren't as accurate as they could be. Those little parts in games, where something that doesn't work, when it should, is just beyond annoying. It's disheartening, really.

Even in a game like Titan Fall, sometimes the physics and hitboxes are hit and miss. The games are getting better graphics, but the gameplay and other aspects that effect said gameplay, are lacking. At least Mario games work, and while I realize that it's more simple, my point still stands.

I'm starting to realize that I'm pretty disappointed by the industry, as of late.

I've always thought it was weird how Nintendo really never embraced online gaming. I guess i was to keep development costs low?
Now that I think about it Smash Bros and Mario Kart really are the only major online game they have. I'd like to see what they could to with games like Nintendo Land and SM3DW online. I think it could help a lot because a lot of gamers i know buy consoles solely for online gaming these days.

I have Monster Hunter for my Wii U and I haven't started online yet. I'm still learning the controls and stuff. I will play online as soon as I feel ready.

The best way to learn is to just jump in. The 1st time I tried MH I quit due to the difficulty curve then later found it much easier when I played with ppl I knew. If you find a good crew of hunters online then I image it might be the same.

Four more months until Bayonetta 2.

I have to admit I did a facepalm to this comment. If anyone can tell me Modern Warfare 3 and Assasin's Creed 3 (and Brotherhood) are better than games like MW 2 and AC2 and truly believe it then gaming is indeed on its way to a Michael Bay style death. Sales are often more evidence of mob mentality and addiction than quality, and companies like to have it that way. The smoking company isn't looking for a way to make cigarettes less harmful, and Activision sure isn't looking for a way to make a fresh CoD. Ubisoft themselves admitted to only wanting to make games that they can churn out into cash-cow series.

Not to say developers aren't trying to make good games, but they often have very little say when the CEO who signs their check is breathing down their neck...sometimes the quality shines through, other times it doesn't...(New Super Mario Bros. Vs. Mario Galaxy)

I play Call of Duty Ghosts and Monster Hunter 3 ultimate regularly on my Wii U. It saddens me everytime I go online and see less than 1000 people playing the games. Why is this? So far there are close to 150k Copies of COD Ghost and 500k copies of Monster Hunter out there. Where is everybody?

I've been on my PS3's black ops recently and guess what? There are close to 40k people on there!! 40k people on a "3 year old game" and the Wii U only has around 1000 people on Ghosts despite having 150k copies sold. Not to mention Monster Hunter only have less than 1000 people online in the weekends, again regardless of having 500k copies sold.

Why are there 40x more people playing a three year old CoD on PS3 than there are people playing a relatively new CoD on Wii U? Well you answered it yourself. 150k copies sold vs 11mill copies sold. Of course there's a huge gap between the number of people online at any one time. Infact on the raw numbers you gave the new Wii U version has about twice as many people per-copy when compared to the PS3 version of BO2. Which makes sense given that we aren't comparing games of the same age.

All the people making points about the Wii U not being an online competitive platform are missing the point. We're comparing the people online on one game and saying it's 'embarrassingly' 40x lower than the people online with a game that sold 70x more copies..............

But the point OP was making was that on his PS3 there are still 40K+ playing a three year old COD game, while on the Wii-U there is barely 1000 playing a brand new one. That's pretty pathetic.

PS3 Black OPs has a much larger userbase, and the people who play COD on PS3 probably generally like to play the Multiplayer more. The two aren't very comparable.

I might start playing Monster Hunter Tri Ultimate again once summer starts up. Grad school is just too busy for me to get lost in hunting monsters right now.

I agree, but the question now, is which direction do you think the industry should take? I'm saying this in a general matter.

Would you rather have another CoD, Assassin's Creed, Dead Space, Mario, and Sonic, or would you rather have a new Tony Hawk Pro Skater, ZombiU, Spore, Starfox, and Toe Jam & Earl?

Most of the games that don't sell as well would probably sell alot better if the games that did sell well, weren't there.

Bingo.

People on Xbox/PS play online multiplayer games. Nintendo gamers do not.

What about Mario Kart, Pokemon, Smash Bros, and basically any game that had Wi-fi? People still play that, even without voice chat and such.

Let me rephrase the point I made earlier. The whine is that only 1k people were online with the Wii U version of Ghosts when 40k people were online with the PS3 version of BO2. Right? Well if that's the case then at that particular point in time:

0.67% of people who owned the Wii U version of Ghosts were online at that point
0.36% of people who owned the PS3 version of BO2 were online at that point.....

Your arguments are invalid

Be realistic though. Most copies of BO2 are likely gathering dust on shelves at EB or sitting under a pile of games in someone's basement at this point. Lets not pretend that EVERY copy of a three year old game in a yearly franchise is potentially being played online still.

The first few months of a COD release should be when it's at it's highest levels of multiplayer users. Having just 1000 online on Wii-U when you can count the amount of competitive online FPS titles on the console on one hand is low no matter how you try to frame it.

@SCAR392

I already said before that outside of MK and Smash Bros, the amount of people who play online multiplayer games is small. It's never been an aspect of gaming that Nintendo really promoted (they are trying to get into it now though) while the other consoles attracted those type of gamers nearly a decade ago.

If you took the BO2 percentage at the same time in relation to its release as you did with Ghosts on WiiU (say 3 months I'm not exactly sure when they launched) BO2 on PS3 would have a way higher percentage than it does now.
