@Rexcalibr: Then the average rating of your team was higher than the oher one, so when you're the favourites you lose more (and the other way around). You also only lose -1 if your team is shorthanded.
@shani: Do we know that for sure? Because that's not always consistent with my matches. For example, I'll be on a team where every opponent out-ranks us, and occasionally we still lose 12 points when we lose, and sometimes win 8 points when we win, and vice versa.
@Nicolai: I agree that it isn't consitant at all. I had matches where I was clearly out ranked and still lost more points then I should have. I've also had the opposite where my team out ranked them and we still won 12 points. It doesn't really make any logical sense some of the time.

If I was only ever able to have Monster Hunter and EO games in the future, I would be a happy man.
To make the point system even more confusing, one time in splat zones my team was doing great and we had a huge lead. The someone from my team got disconnected, (I doubt they raged quit if we were winning) and my two other team members got disconnected with about 30 thirty seconds left. So then it was just me against a team of 4... Obviously lost. I was so frustrated that I lost 14 points! If someone got disconnected, I thought all team members would only lose 1 point, but I guess not. The rest of my team could've raged quit, but I don't see why they would if we were easily going to win. That match turned from very fun to very frustrating real quick!
If someone got disconnected, I thought all team members would only lose 1 point, but I guess not.
The 1 point loss is only if you start the match with a disconnected team member. If the 1-point rule would be true even for disconnects during a match, it would quickly be abused.
@Nicolai: I had the same feeling (that it isn't consistent) when I googled it some weeks ago. Back then I landed on this reddid thread.
But now I found this in the Splatoon Wiki:
When a team starts with three players or less and loses, they will each lose only 1 point.
Normally, matches award a base amount of points per win and loss (±10 above . These numbers can be changed depending on the average level of each team in a match. A team with a higher average rank than their opponents will be given less reward if they win or more punishment if they lose. A team with a lower average rank will be given more reward if they win or less punishment if they lose. The values are ±10±2 or ±10±4 depending on the magnitude of the difference. For example, a team of 4 A+'s vs an A+ and 3 A-'s, or 4 B+s vs an A+ and 3 B+s, will receive scores of ±10±2.
Still I find it sometimes inconsistent, but at least now I know how it's supposed to be. ^^
Also, I didn't know that "S and S+ rank players cannot lose or gain points in Squad Battles."
The 1 point loss is only if you start the match with a disconnected team member. If the 1-point rule would be true even for disconnects during a match, it would quickly be abused.
Yeah that's true, when I got -1, we were only three people on the spawn point when the match started. And yeah, this could be abused easily otherwise (people quitting when their losing so they only lose -1, or even people meeting to boost their ranks in turn without losing much).
I think I've gotten bored of Splatoon over time. It's still an amazing game but it's a habit of mine that causes me to get really bored of games over a short time, and it's why I'm drifting away from gaming in general. I'm surprised it kept my interest for as long as it did, but I kind of feel like the feeling is gone. So I'll probably take a pretty long break from this game.
@shani: Yah, I was just in a room with entirely B+'s for several games, and you'd think I'd always lose and gain 10, but instead, I would lose 8 and gained 12. I wonder what the math behind it is.
@Nicolai: I can't back this (yet) with facts, but sometimes it feels like the game analyses how good or bad your team is doing, like if you cooperate well and score a blitz win or something. But I'm not sure about it, it's still a mystery to me, too.
My GOTY? Legend Of Zelda: Splat of the child. Ah no, I meant LoZ: Breath of the SPLATOOOON!
Hey, guys! I finally found the problem with my Splatoon save data. It turns out that the real culprit was the update data in the flash drive. So I deleted the update data (after deleting that suspicious shared data did not work), and my game is back to normal! Of course, I moved the data to the system's memory after that.
I'm really glad I found the problem. I couldn't just let my Splatoon data go kaput on me. XD
@VeeFlamesNL: That's really great to hear, I'm happy for you.
And good to know that it was the update data that caused the problem. So next time we can all play together.
I guess I'll represent those who feel the complete opposite. Once I start playing online, I find it really hard to stop, and the game has great variety. Even if I get the slightest bit bored, usually just switching my weapon is enough to get me to want to play again. Splatoon isn't my first multiplayer shooter (Halo, CoD, and others) but I guess it's my first multiplayer shooter that I genuinely liked. Or maybe it's because I'm still somewhere under level 30, and you've all gotten to S rank and gotten all the stuff already. I dunno, I just can't get bored of this game!
I tried playing a few matches online with the motion control on. I don't know how some of you do it. It feels awful no matter how much I try to get used to it.
I'm also guilty of never pressing Y to make the camera jump in front of me... I never use it. I'm sure it comes in handy and motion control feels ok when you go into the weapon testing room but when it's a real match, I don't like it at all.
@pikminfan22: Wow, thanks! Yeah, the music from Splatoon is incredible. It's amazing how many styles a game composer can write in. I have a lot of fun remixing them, cuz I get to analyze each note and find out exactly what the composer did, before adding my own stuff. Hopefully I'll have another one uploaded on Friday.
