@Rexcalibr: Have you tried ranked? That's where most of the strategy and skill in Splatoon is shown.
Not yet. I'm only level 8 and you have to be level 10 to get in Ranked lobbies.
Question... how do I unlock new clothes and stuff? Is it something that changes daily in the clothing stores or is there some that may be DLC? To me, it's a lot of this is about making my character look different so I hope the selections for clothing are huge since all we can change is eye and skin color.
Finally reached S rank... AGAIN! Third time a charm as they say, even if it was more like a torture XD
I don't know how, but they need to fix that rank points lost or gained are based solely on the result of the team and the ranks of the players in it. Dropping down to almost A- because in a ton of matches noone else in my team except me was trying can be quite frustrating and made the climb back way longer than it could be >.>;;;
On the bright side I reached a level of frustration so high that suddenly I stopped to care and restarted to enjoy the game, but I'm not sure if I reached the enlightment of if the game simply broke me XD
@Rexcalibr: Daily change, plus as you get to higher levels you'll see higher level clothes appering in the stores, so the customization options will raise as you progress.
And preapere to rumble once you reach level 10, Turf War is only a nice safe trip for get used to the controls ^o^
Something I wonder, and it this could have been a hit or miss, is if Splatoon as a franchise was just retagging Super Mario world characters playing paint ball. I wonder if it would sell better or appeal to more because before buying the game, despite thinking the colorful graphics looked great, i had no appeal to the Squid boy or Girl. They have no defining features of their own and all look and function the same. They all sound similar to Yoshi too in a way.
I think this genre of game would have been more fun as a Paintbull game with Mairo, Peach, Bowser Jr. etc. I'm sure most would disagree with me but I truly feel it wold be a better game Nintndo is just worried about over exposing the Franchise.

Well I definitely disagree with that. The Splatoon world, lore and characters OOZE personality and style. It would be a detriment to the game if they just slapped the Mario name on it to sell a few extra copies.
But hey you gave the game a chance. That's more than I can say for most people that I recommend the game to.
Am I the only one here who isn't liking Rain Maker that much so far? It seems too easy for 1 superb player to take it all the way to the goal in a short amount of time, and it seems tricky for the losing team to turn the tables and start doing well. Plus, all my matches have been a bit one-sided so far. I still love Splatoon and can tolerate Rain Maker, but I don't enjoy it anywhere near as much as the other modes. Perhaps I just need to get used to it more.

I'd disagree with that. If Paintball Mario had happened, then I'd expect a lot of people complaining that it is yet another Mario game and that Nintendo never creates any new IP, whereas Splatoon is new and different. Also, the turning into a squid mechanic is great fun and makes the game feel very different from other shooters, but I can't think of any good way of having that in a Paintball Mario game while making it intuitive to players. Plus I'd agree with whodatninja and say that the Inklings have lots of personality. Still, there's nothing wrong with wanting different things, and a Paintball Mario game would have still been great fun.
@Rexcalibr: We're not trying to convince you to like the game more as if it's not for you then just get the enjoyment out of it you want and move on. The game has already almost sold 2 million copies and I for one am glad there is no Mario influence whatsoever. I loved the game from the start. Of it doesn't grab you from there it probably never will.
Like others have said more clothing options unlock the higher rank you go. Get to 20 then you can pay or use snails to re-roll those sub stats and or create more slots for the clothing you like. Also single player can be fun and teach you a lot about how to play the game online as well and the final boss alone is worth reaching as it's one of the best boss fight in any Nintendo game period.

If I was only ever able to have Monster Hunter and EO games in the future, I would be a happy man.

I can see where you're coming from, but I disagree. I find Rain Maker to be one of the most intense and entertaining modes in the game. To be honest I find it nearly impossible, or at least very difficult, for the player with the Rain Maker to win without support from their team; Rain Maker is incredibly reliant on teamwork.
You know, something I would really enjoy is if, later on, they made Nintendo-themed outfits or weapons. Sort of like how Animal Crossing has clothes that are Nintendo-themed. Like a Mario hat, or Waluigi overalls, or a Peach crown, or a Bowser-colored weapon - and that's just some ideas from the Mario universe.
Even more beautiful would be if they threw in one or two Nintendo-themed stages near the end; I can't help but think that covering (a reworked for the game version of) Isle Delfino in ink would feel absolutely marvelous, but that dream may be a bit more farfetched.
Nintendo Network ID: wowzatim93.
Wii U owner. Top 6 games for system: Splatoon, Mario 3D World, Captain Toad, Smash Bros, Bayonetta, and Pikmin 3.
Eagerly anticipating: Zelda U and the hopeful announcements of Animal Crossing U and Paper Mario U.
@St_Timothy: Not just Mario, it could be Zelda and Metroid! How is this possible you ask?
Spoilers for the lore
Like most of you know, the game takes place far in the future where squids rule and humans are extinct. Nintendo consoles (used to) exist and a magic fax machine gets messages from the human (our) time period.
So I think someday there could be some Nintendo themed DLC costumes and weapons. Just not actual characters or locations, that would be absurd!
Been thinking of getting Splatoon. Can any of you give me some reasons to get it? Thanks!
It's fun (in that it makes you smile), it's innovative (the game is more about capturing territory more than killing opponents), it's got a lot of content (a short single-player campaign, four game modes, loads of weapons, a good amount of maps with each playing differently and more content is being added) and it makes good use of the game pad (not a reason to buy it as such but it makes a change).
So today I was in a mixed discussion revolving around the Chargers in Splatoon and how balanced they were, and it was pretty interesting considering how differently people viewed them. Some people saw them as OP others saw them as terrible. Me personally, I find Chargers to be pretty good and an all around good weapon class.
Although in the end I think some of the issues with chargers comes from some maps and how some cater towards Charger, and the huge hit boxes that Inklings have (which is understandable considering the concept behind the Inklings and Splatoon). What are your opinions on the Chargers in Splatoon, and how balanced do you think they are?
@Miles_Edgeworth: It all depends on your view of playing the same multiplayer map repeatedly for hours, if you're into that kind of thing then you will probably like Splatoon. If not, avoid it like the plague unless they change the map rotation setup in an update.
@whodatninja: Hey, I think Isle Defino could totally work in Splatoon. At least, just a small section of the island complete with bridges and water. In fact, they could even do a remix of the Isle Delfino theme... courtesy of the Squid Sisters (imagine them singing a fast paced, upbeat version of the song. Beautiful!). And you can only hear the song in the Isle Delfino stage.
And I know I'll be using the Brushes more often if Bowser Jr.'s brush was a weapon. XD
@St_Timothy: For the outfit idea, they could use Amiibo to get new gear. For example, if you tap Mario, you get his hat, or for Link, you get his boots, and so on. It would be like the Mario Kart 8 Amiibo costumes; completely optional, but still cool to have.
@Grumblevolcano: I like to compare this with League of Legends. LOL, one of the most popular games of all time, has a single stage. That's it. The same map over and over for 5 years. Yet nobody is bothered by it. (Well, I am but I'm in the minority)
The stage rotation thing isn't that big a deal in Splatoon. Although they should definitely up the count from 2 stages to 4 or more. Or lower the hour limit from 4 to 2 or less.
@VeeFlamesNL: I'm not saying they couldn't make it work. In fact it would be pretty easy and probably pretty cool. What I'm saying is it wouldn't make sense within the world of Splatoon to have an all-out Mario level.
