@whodatninja: When in a typical set of 10 matches you get 9 of 1 stage and 1 of the other, it is a huge problem. I feel the only way Splatoon would be really fixed without massive amounts of time wasted in a lobby is something like Smash (random of all stages) or Mario Kart 8 (3 randomly stages to vote for or random, the chosen stage has a 0% chance of being playable the next match).

@Grumblevolcano: I've never experienced getting the same stage 9 times. 4 was the most I think.

But I agree the stage select could be better.

@pikminfan22: I'm A+, and I'm pretty sure I didn't get a reward. I think your rank is just for show.

@pikminfan22: Your rank is used for match you with people with the same level of ability, it's there for make sure you face the right level of challange by making you play with people as skillful as you, there are no rewards behind it.
However to be fair the system is still far from perfect, sometimes matches are between the most mixed ranks and, since the point system reward the results of the team and not of the single, there are good player blocked at low ranks and some bad players at higher ones >.>;;;

EDIT: Oh right, I almost forgot, there are actually two benefits in reaching high ranks (even if they are relative small). The best one is that the points you get in case of victory are more, so the higher your rank, the faster you can level up your equipment and money, not useful for everyone, but for some players it surely is. The other benefit is that in S and S+ rank you don't get or lose points in squad battles, making play with friends all fun and no risk (at least I think so, I still didn't manage to play in a squad with anyone here, I'm never on at the right times DX ).

Something I wonder, and it this could have been a hit or miss, is if Splatoon as a franchise was just retagging Super Mario world characters playing paint ball. I wonder if it would sell better or appeal to more because before buying the game, despite thinking the colorful graphics looked great, i had no appeal to the Squid boy or Girl. They have no defining features of their own and all look and function the same. They all sound similar to Yoshi too in a way.

I think this genre of game would have been more fun as a Paintbull game with Mairo, Peach, Bowser Jr. etc. I'm sure most would disagree with me but I truly feel it wold be a better game Nintndo is just worried about over exposing the Franchise.

I'm curious why you really want to fit everything you play into the Mushroom Kingdom?

  • Historically Splatoon is about tofu and rabbits, and it has never been close to the Mushroom Kingdom.
  • Why would it seem logical that Mario, Peach, and Bowser Jr could transform into swimming creatures that can swim upside walls and super-jump across the board?
  • The characteristics of Spyke, Judd, Octavio, the Octolings, The Squid Sisters and the Inklings have no counter part in the Mario world.
  • The details surrounding Octavio would make absolutely no sense in a Mario world.

Been thinking of getting Splatoon. Can any of you give me some reasons to get it? Thanks!

I find it is worth getting. I usually don't like FPS at all but it is different enough for me to like it. I have not had it more than just a couple days but I do like it. The only thing that took me to get used to was using the gamepad, because I never use it for my other games and always used the Pro Controller, and I turned motion controls off.

To answer the question about the Splatoon being a Mario game instead, I guess it would be too much of a stretch to work and probably be written off as just another Mario party-style game by reviewers.

Gosh, now I'm starting to see how great the Inkzooka is. I always knew the Special was good, but man, it can be insane sometimes. I just splatted an entire team across the map (albeit I did have the echolocator on). So the Inkzooka in my opinion is actually one of the, if not the best special in the game.

It has almost no downside other than the slight knockback, but it has so many advantages. It has a very high range (rivaling the E-Liter), no charge, no warnings, it can go through obstacles, and most importantly it has a huge hitbox. I think I would prefer it, if it had a blast more similar to the Rain Maker; it would seem much more fair that way. I think it also defies physics.

I'm tired of seeing so many Tentatek Splattershots. It's the most popular weapon, probably because it can kill quite easily and has good sub and special weapons. Whenever I do rank, more than half the people I see use the Tentatek Splattershot. (Most of those people are A+, S, or S+). It has to be a good weapon! For rank, I usually use the Slosher or any of the Dual Squelchers, depending on the mode. I don't see many other people with the weapons I use.

@Aromaiden: I hate it when you're about to kill someone and right at the last second, they pull out the Inkzooka and kill you instead. I wish it took the Inkling more time to get the Inkzooka out, that way it would be more fair.

Japanese Splatfest (Grasshopper vs Ant) ended with the final score: 273 vs 227

Grasshoppers won both popularity-wise and in winning %.

@Blue_Blur: I agree, I think it should have a slight charge up, not much, but just enough so it doesn't feel so overwhelming. Anyways regarding the Tentatek Splattershot, what is so amazing about that weapon? It seems pretty average, but like you said, I see it everywhere now. It's the new Aerospray.

@Aromaiden: I was playing around with the Tentatek Splattershot in the testing room, and I think it kills faster than the Aerospray! That's probably why so many people like it, too. Suction bombs are good for all rank modes; and with the Inkzooka, it's a pretty powerful weapon. Now that you mention it, I don't see many Aerosprays anymore. Once people figured out how to counter the Aerospray, a lot people must've changed to a different weapon. By the way, which weapon do you use?

Areospray is still great for turf wars and Spatfest's though. I just hate seeing them on my team in ranked anymore.

I still think it's silly how the game kicks you out of the lobby for ranking up but consistently puts you with players of different rank anyway. I got stuck once in a game of all B+'s except me!

And wow, Rainmaker in Blackbelly could end in 20 seconds if a team blunders really hard. They should have put the podium in a harder spot, but there's not too many places else to put it. I must say though, I really like Rainmaker; if only there was a more leisure version of it, because these ranked games are getting really intense.

@Blue_Blur: I actually prefer to use the Dual Squelcher, but the problem is once the other team starts getting in my face and rollers start popping up everywhere, I really need the Splash-o-matic or the Tentatek Splattershot to keep up.

As for why I use the Tentatek Splattershot, it's because it has good fire rate and also decent range (so I can get those snipers but also duel), as well as what was already mentioned; the subs are both good. There's several weapons that I'd like to to use but have unsatisfactory subs that I never use. I'm still waiting for a close range gun with beacons; that'll be the day.

Oh and before I forget (freakin' long post), Aerospray does have a use in that it crushes Splattershot Jr.

@MasterWario: It is hard to use the Dual Squechler when your surrounded. It takes at least four hits to splatter someone, and that's if they have no defense up! The range comes in handy for hitting the rainmaker shield, though. Rainmaker is my favorite mode as well. It's so chaotic, yet fun!

Can someone tell me, how do I get to use the power up that makes a huge ink tornado, or just a power up that covers a lot of ground with ink so I can be better at Turf Wars? I use the paint roller weapon and the power up move turns you into a huge squid but it's so slow moving and I don't really see it as a good move.

and what is really the use of grenades or bombs since they use up all your ammo and you have to recharge? are they really that useful?

When I was using the default splatter gun, my power up move was this speaker or something that doesn't spray any ink and I haven't discovered what the use of it is..

Spoony_Tech

@Rexcalibr: The best thing for you to do is test those weapons out in the testing area. That speaker thing is called the killer whale. Anyone of the enemies in it's path will be killed. Test that out as well along with bombs and such. It will give you a better feel for how to use them. I often get killed by people specials rather then their weapons.

@ELI-ASH: Well, it kinda depends on the stage. I think it works really good in stages like Blackbelly skatepark, where there is center you want to keep control of. But, stages like Walleye Warehouse, where there is no real pillars, it's a little harder. Overall, I love using the Slosher, but it's good when you have a teammate next to you.

@Rexcalibr: The Ink Strike is a Special that is assigned to specific weapons, and you need to use those weapons in order to use it. The roller weapon you were previously using was probably the Krak-On Roller who has the Kraken as its Special; which usually does better in ranked due it's versatility.

The bombs in the game are very helpful as they provide you with great utility. They usually help make up for the weaknesses of certain weapons such as providing helpful ink coverage, support, and offensive capabilities. While they vary in explosions, movement, and power they are all useful.

@Blue_Blur: I don't really have a main, I like to switch around a lot.
