I think I'll definitely try limiting how many in a row I play. I love turf wars, because I'm almost always first on my team and score 1000 or more points each game whether I win or lose (Aerospray lol) and I can play super passively (not going for kills). So I'm never upset with losses. I really haven't found a solid strategy for ranked in either of the current modes. I usually go Krak-on roller or .52 Gal, and I tend to get KO'd more often than I'd like to. I've been in B- to B+ range for quite a while. I have also been trying to level up all my equipment, and I feel like when playing ranked I need the best gear I have equipped. I don't feel comfortable playing with gear that doesn't already have all slots filled. I end up being able to level up faster, but don't get to upgrade my gear as much. I guess I just need to change my current mindset to make it more enjoyable.
Also, if anyone feels like it go ahead and friend me. I like jumping into turf war games with friends.
@ELI-ASH: Yeah, it seems like it'll be a more chaotic and unrestricted version of Tower Control. It looks really fun.
Edit: Although it's not really an inkzooka since the inkzooka is better than it in almost every way. The Rainmaker does actually have somewhat of a limit, since apparently it detonates if you hold it for too long.
Glad to see Rainmaker is on the way, and you can play in Private Battles! I don't have the patience to deal with Ranked most of the time. Getting killed in the double digits and feeling like you learned nothing but how to not lose your cool to the best of your ability wasn't fun for me. Turf wars can be super addicting though. Still hoping for some new local stuff one day.

@rjejr: From the preview video I saw Rainmaker is similar to tower except without rails and you can defend yourself with an unlimited inkzooka.
I hate the inkzooka. I've tried it so many times, and before the game released I was all "a bazooka in a game, how cool is that" but I just can't use it properly, and I've tried repeatedly. I probably hate it b/c I really wanted to use it and like it but I just can't. It has something to do w/ the button combination, it seems different from the other sub weapons and specials. and aiming it is weird, seems like it takes more effort than regular guns. I can't manage to use the kraken very well either, seems too slow, but I don't hate it, I just don't use it.
I do have my fingers crossed hat the rainmaker functions differently than the inkzooka b/c it's not a special so we won't have to hit the same button combo and aim it the same way while we're standing still - I never stand still - so it functions more like a normal charge gun.
Oh, and you are right about the difference w/ no rails. On a level like bluefin depot we'll have different options - I'm embarrassed to admit how many times I've swam down the wrong side of that level during splat zone (2 I think) and there are several different climbing paths on Moray Towers - I've thought from day 1 that level was built w/ rainmaker mode in mind - and even kelp dome will give you 4 directions to go.
Not sure how many of you will know what this is, but you old school guys will get the connection to rainmaker mode.

@multicoloredyoshi: Yeah, I only play ranked w/ full gear. Heck I even max out my shirts before splatfests - in turf wars. Something about trying to serve 2 masters. B+ fights in ranked are shooting fish in a barrel, and we're all fish. C+ and B- fights seemed a bit more forgiving. I also use the .52 gal deco in ranked, works well in tower control, not so much in splat zones when I usually go back to the aerospray, or just play turf war instead, depending on the stages.
Just relazied I'm probably the last person on earth to be answering a question about having "fun".

I have to say my biggest gripe with splatfest is the shirts. Splatfest is the perfect time to level equipment for me, as I know I'll be playing until I get max rank to get maximum snails so I just keep switching out my headgear and shoes as I play through it. I just wish I could do the same with the shirts, but your trapped in the one-time use splatfest shirts, and there's more shirts than any other gear so it would be nice if anything to switch those out. I end up not leveling it until the splatfest since I rather level up some of my other clothing.
I can already see myself not liking rain maker, carrier is too mobile and their weapon seems to powerful it should only be able to hold the opposition off not one shot them.
That's true, I would have expected the Rainmaker to slow down the wielder more or prevent them from entering Squid Form. Apparently it does slow them down, but by the looks of it, not by much. I really expect Rainmaker to be far more hectic than Tower Control.
played some tower with randoms so far lost 4 and won only once. On the most recent loss one of my team members was messing around just jumping in place >.< I dont mind lossing when its a hard fought battle but its extra irritating when you have an idiot on your team.
Rainmaker looks fun, but I don't understand why Splat Zones, Tower Control, and Rainmaker can't always be available at once. I hate it when you're in the mood for a specific mode, but then it's a different one; I don't want to wait four hours for the next rotation.
Had horrible connection issues today. Lost 4 matches just from loss of internet. Wasn't the game though as I think it was my internet. It's been acting funny the last 2 days. So instead I finished up single player for once. Was about half way through world 4 when I started and the rest of the game took about an hour and a half. Last boss I fell twice but beat it first try. One time I fell he wasn't pushed back far enough and I hit the force field. The other time was simply going to fast for an item and fell. Otherwise it wasn't too hard. Of course I knew exactly what was coming from watching my son though.

If I was only ever able to have Monster Hunter and EO games in the future, I would be a happy man.
There's probably going to be a lot of bias on this thread since a lot of us love this game and will say it's fantastic, but let me tell you that this game is fantastic. It's unique from all other shooters since kills aren't as important, but spraying ink everywhere is vastly important. As long as every player is spreading ink, then they're all helping the team. There's now plenty of game modes all requiring different gameplay tactics to win. Plus there a single player campaign, which is a nice break from multiplayer though people usually spend most of their time on multiplayer.
Still, I have no way of knowing whether you'll like it, so it might be worth watching some multiplayer gameplay footage to see whether it's something you're interested in.
