@crimsontadpoles yeah I agree. After playing this game a lot since launch I think I'm due for a break. I like playing this for about 5 matches or so now, anything more than that isn't as enjoyable as it was before. Time to dust off Mario Kart 8.
Splatfest honestly feels like a normal day of Splatoon...except I can't do ranked.
The music is cool and it grows on me but I wish it was a bit louder and more punctual. It feels more like elevator music than actual battle music.
And I just wish the rules were slightly different for it. Nothing big mind you, but honestly being put on the same team as fellow roller coaster people...doesn't really do anything mechanically, just...visually.
I would have never guessed Weezing was so useful until I played a HeartGold Nuzlocke! My YouTube Channel! Video game related, of course! My Pushmo Levels
I still really wish nintendo changes something in the matchmaking. Something that divides higher/lower levels and weapons over the two teams. So for example there are 4 players who are level 8, and 4 who are level 20. The teams will both be 2 level 8's and 2 level 20's. I think something like this is really needed because there are a lot of matches where all the lower leveled players were put into one team, and all the hardcore players in the other team. This might take away the fun for lower leveled players because they don't really stand a chance that way. And I just feel bad when totally beating players who just got into the game :c Also I figured that in matches with more even levels, the weapons should be divided over the teams. That would make it much more fun I think, and give the game some weapon diversity. And nobody needs 3 chargers on one team xd (or 3 rollers for that matter)

That is pretty much my feelings as well. It is a nice idea to have events, but in the end all it does right now is force you to play a single game-mode.. It is not that fun IMO, they need to do more with it. If not, they should allow you to play ranked during a Splatfest as well.
On another note; Splatoon really needs more options. A Mario Kart approach to the stage selection would be much better and they really need to allow you to change weapons while still in a game.. Some stages lend themselves to certain weapons. It Is such a stupid idea to have stages randomized when you can not change weapons before starting a game. I can not tell you how many times I have picked a weapon and ended up on the stage I did not want. In the end I just end up using the Splattershot (or some other weapon with "all-around" stats) because I want to be prepared for anything. It takes a lot of fun out of the game, especially since the game offers so many interesting weapons that are practically useless at the moment.
Aside from the heaps of sea snails, the only good thing about Splatfest is I feel like I can sit down and play for more than an hour without risking getting the same stage 8 times in a row. I really hope 3 stages is going to be the norm soon.
It definitely wrecks the matchmaking that typically divides the sub level 10 crowd from the level 20 crowd though, which makes it feel like it's the weak players deciding the matches by losing games rather than the strong players deciding the matches by winning them.
How will they go about adding weapon changes between rounds without slowing everything down,I've never really played much online shooters so I don't know how it's done? There is that much weapons to choose from they would need to give everyone at least 10 seconds or more once they've joined. One of the things I love about Splatoon is how quick it can be at finding a room and loading the map,I wouldn't want that spoiled.Say it lets you pick 2 or 3 weapons before joining and gave everyone only 5 seconds each between rounds to change them that wouldn't be so bad.An idea that just came into my head, how about letting you go into battle with 2 weapons but you can only change them at the spawn points, would that work?

I had a fun lag related issue in the Splatfest yesterday. I encountered an enemy who was spraying ink everywhere, but their ink wasn't appearing on the ground. I defeated her despite her ink not hurting me, and I felt bad about that kill. Around 5 seconds later, I died from her previous gun attacks.

In CoD at least you can create usually about 5 different load outs with your weapons, equipments and perks and then choose one of them at the start of the match. Pressing start in the middle of it (or tapping on the game pad) allows you to change your load out for your next spawn.
Personally I think that the way it works in Splatoon is fine, but I would like to be able to at least quickly change weapons in the lobby without having to leave.

You mean like rank?
Well kinda yeah, in ranked battles the teams are (almost) always equally skilled. Which makes it a lot more challenging, thus more fun to play ^^ I don't know about the weapons in ranked battle though, they're not equally divided I think.
It's just that I really like the turf wars mode, but it's not challenging to me anymore. (because I've been playing lots of ranked battle lately, I'm B+ now) Most of the times I just completely dominate the opponents team, and that gets boring fast.

Yeah in most shooters you can change weapons during the game, and then get them when you respawn. But I don't think that'll be usefull for splatoon. Other shooters have matches that are much longer, splatoon matches are only 3 minutes (turf wars) and ranked battles don't take long either. If you could switch weapons in game in splatoon it would take "a lot" of time, since a match is already very short.
But I really like the idea of choosing 2/3 weapons and getting the chance to change them in between battles It would be even better if you get to know what stage is up ahead, so that you can adjust your choice to the stage.

It's fun to have a one day event. Even though we only get to play Turf War, it's nice to have everyone play the same mode. This also makes balancing the teams easier. If there was three modes and different maps to choose during the event, matchmaking would be poor in the less popular modes.
IMO the final results of Splatfest should be determined by popularity percentage + (win percentage x 3).
This would be more fair to a team that has less votes, but won most games.
I like splatfest for the night look. Sitting in my basement after midnight w/ those day glow green and purple ink colors playing in the dark is kind of cool. If Splatoon worked on a day night cycle I would only play at night, but that can't happen as Japan and the US are opposite. So I'm ok w/ the Saturday event once a month even if it means no ranked for a day.
And for the first time ever I saw a level 1 player (that wasn't me). Even getting the game Day 1 I'm pretty sure it was all higher levels, probably b/c Japan got it a day earlier. Actually a lot of single digit player sin spaltfest so I guess there is a bit of matchmaking in turf war as I hardly ever see anybody under lever 15 or 16 anymore. Unless it was just all the kids who's parents limit them to 2 hours of video game playing a week on Saturdays. I almost always just play after dinner.

@rjejr: Let's not forget that just because someone shows up at level one that they really are level one. I started my game profile over in online shooters before and I must of had a lot of who is this person low ranked and killing us all. Plus I've dominated on my daughter's account before so not everyone is truly a low ranked player just because of a number. I've been thinking of starting over again just for fun.
@Spoony_Tech: I think their kdr was about 0-14 so I don't think it was somebody starting over. Oh, and in that 1 instance I wasn't actually taking about the match-making, more that it was kind of cool to see a new player - all the lower level players - playing the game. Though considering I've been harping on that I understand why you would interpret it that way.
I think today is the day I start keeping my stats. Not sure how much info I want, probably will take screenshots w/ my camera and sort it out after every my play session. Mets are playing for 1st, I'm in a stat mood.

Jim Sterling just recently as of 3 weeks ago praised both Witcher 3 and Splatoon as great examples how a game as a service should be. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C_cKAySEuD8
