@yokokazuo: the first time i heard of the rainmaker mode i thought of the new japan wrestler Kazuchika Okada (whos moniker and finisher is called Rainmaker ) I originaly thought they were influence by urban culture or something ya know "making it rain" Didn't know it was actually something in Japanese culture
@ELI-ASH: Ha ha, as someone trying to learn the charger I can say that one of the hardest things to do is snipe someone while they're jumping.
And I can't stand realistic shooters like COD; I can't enjoy them. They put things that are actually real tragedies/legitimate fears inside a video game and then make it as realistic as possible, all on top of showing it off to be mindless fun? No. That's not ok for me. I usually let things slide in video games because the good qualities vastly override (Xenoblade Chronicles comes to mind), but in the case of FPS's they usually don't have what I consider to be enough redeeming qualities. And I can't stand blood or skin mutilation...which those games have a lot of.
Which is why Splatoon will always be the best shooter in my book ^_^

@MasterWario: It's not that I can't stand it, its just that it feels like there's no reason why it should be there. A harmless paint-flinging mess-fest seems way more fun than something bloody and uncomfortable. @yokokazuo: Alright, when you get back, I'll try the Splat Roller.
@Nicolai: Ah true. What I probably can't stand about FPS is so many people, my friends included, seem to be enamored with those types of games...and I'm over here like, who wants to play Splatoon...?*
Thank goodness for games like Rocket League that I actually want to play with them.
*Although Splatoon is online multiplayer so it's not the best example, but still, I have a few friends with a Wii U and none of them have the game.

I admit Splatoon needs a "Help!" or "Watch Out!" shout-out in addition to "Booyah!" and "Come On!", but otherwise I think it's great the way it is. I thought this article was great: http://www.pastemagazine.com/articles/2015/06/shut-up-about-v... but to be honest I'm not entirely learned in the way of voice chat.
@VeeFlamesNL: Yeah, I didn't mean to open up a whole can of worms there...but ya know, when someone brings up a topic I don't often get to discuss, I find it really difficult not to say something. My bad; sorry.

@mjc0961: You do realize you're on the Splatoon Thread, right? You do? Okay.
Yes, you can heal yourself instantly in CoD, plus the occasional sci-fi and everything else that makes it have basic good gameplay over frustrating real-life limitations, but compared to Splatoon, it's aiming for way more realism in terms of it's graphics and depictions of war.
I don't think I'm going to like the outcome of this EU Splatfest, pro pineapple is getting crushed from what I have witnessed! Hopefully things change throughout the day!
@VeeFlamesNL: Oh, ok, thanks for clearing that up. I'm always a bit worried about what I say, since something that makes perfect sense to me sometimes ticks someone off the wrong way for a reason I never thought about...
Sometimes it's a reason I'm ok with, most of the time I wish I never said anything.

I have a strong hunch I'm going to receive this for Christmas. Is it going to be difficult breaking into the on-line scene considering I've never played it yet? What tips do you have for noobs? Is there dlc that I've missed and will never be able to get? Thanks!

@CosmoXY: Let me start out by saying that this will be one on the best gifts you'll ever receive; this game is THAT awesome. As for your questions, going in order, online might be a little hard at first, since most players now are well over level 30, which takes quite a while to get to. If you play some of the single player mode first, it'll help you get used to the controls and how the game works. Just like with anything, practice makes perfect, so the best thing to do is to start playing turf wars after some of the single player mode, and have fun! The more you level up, the more weapons you unlock, so hopefully you'll find a weapon that suits your play style. As for tips, I would say don't charge ahead, and stay close to your teammates. Squids/Kids that bolt out into the middle of the map when a match first starts, usually end up dying within 20 seconds. XD Also, be sure to use your sub weapons, which are either bombs, point sensors, disruptors; all of these help you control the environment around you. Different pieces of gear have different abilities on them, so be sure to choose abilities that benefit your play style the most; also be sure that your Inkling isn't a fashion disaster! Lastly, for DLC, I'm not sure if you'll have to wait a few minutes the first time you turn on the game, for the game to catch up and download all of the DLC, but I'm positive that you'll get all of the DLC. All the DLC in this games is free, and comes with the game. You'll get every new map, weapon, and any other changes that have been made to the game. Hope this helps!
@CosmoXY: just to add one more thing to what @Blue_Blur said, learn to use the motion controls and don't give up on them. You will go further if you do. Otherwise twin sticks just isn't accurate enough.

If I was only ever able to have Monster Hunter and EO games in the future, I would be a happy man.
@CosmoXY: I'll just elaborate slightly on what Blur said about staying close to teammates, only do this to a certain degree as sticking to close can result in an enemy player getting a double kill/splat which can be a turning point.
Also you don't have to beat or play much of story mode to get an idea of how to move but it will help and if you make sure to get every scroll you'll have a larger array of weapons to choose from.
Motion controls are a bit like Marmite but for particular weapons help give mouse levels of precision aiming so give them a shot.
You'll gradually get access to more weapons as you level up so save your money and buy new ones as soon as possible to try in turf war or ranked.
Oh and all dlc will be available to you that has been released so far.
As for why nobody wants to play Splatoon, maybe it's because Nintendo still hasn't learned to treat its audience like adults.
Why would you need a game for adults, when you obviously aren't one? I know you just want to troll, but I want to point out that Splatoon is Wii U's second most popular titles in some regions. And I've seen people mentioning putting more than 900 hours into this game. After less than half a year on the market.
Keep up with the good work of not understanding how the game works.

Splatoon doesn't have DLC in a traditional sense. For the online, all players use the same version of the game (currently version 2.3.0), and the updates download automatically. New content (like maps/weapons/gear) unlocks from the server side, not by downloading an update.
Why am I going to give them $60 for a team based shooter with no way to communicate with my team in a way that's actually helpful?
I wouldn't say "no way." Most of the 4 teams in the NL Splatoon Tournament used some form of Skype, Google+, or voice chat.
I know I'm quoting myself here, but it got me thinking... the reasons our team wasn't using a voice chat option is because one of teammate's parents wouldn't allow it. It's a completely valid concern for a parent with kids of that age, but more importantly, I suppose that for that reason, it's a good thing Splatoon doesn't have any voice chat at all. Even if it was optional, I suppose it would make some parents think twice before buying Splatoon.
@Blue_Blur: I guess it depends on peoples play style but going in to matches im perfectly fine "lone wolfing" it. I had various rank matches were I go off and do my own thing such as pick off enemy squids and/or simply covering turf around the map so my team has more room to swim trough.
@ELI-ASH: Wow, really? I disagree, I find I always do better when I'm assisting my team in splats. It's tough for a team with a spread-out formation when your lone self is always running into opponents in packs. I usually honor the buddy system
Why am I going to give them $60 for a team based shooter with no way to communicate with my team in a way that's actually helpful? And then I can only play using the gamepad, instead of using the Wii Remote's IR pointer which would be ideal for a shooter? No, it doesn't surprise me that people don't want to play Splatoon. What surprises me is the number of people who actually DO want to play Splatoon considering those two extremely huge problems. I know I'll never buy a copy until Nintendo fixes them.
Those two things aren't a problem. Not even a tiny one. The game is designed in a way that voice chat becomes unnecessary and the motion controls of the Gamepad are more precise than the antiquated IR sensor of the Wiimote. You know how old IR sensors (as a technology) are, right? I even get your point, because I loved playing shooters with the pointer on the Wii. Isn't the same thing as a mouse but still a lot of fun. The thing is though, the Gamepad's motion controls are in fact more like a mouse. It works really well.
So both "problems" you mentioned are nonexistent.
And for why you should pay 60$ for it: Simply because it's worth it (payed 37€ for it and would happily pay twice as much). Both from a gameplay and content perspective. Ask anyone who plays it. I also play a lot of PC games, but you won't find anything remotely similar to this anywhere. It's just an innovative shooter with fresh ideas.
And I guess you're just making up your claim of "nobody wants to play Splatoon", because tons of people are playing it and so far - from my personal experience - every single person who sees it for the first time wants to play it (or at least try it out).
My GOTY? Legend Of Zelda: Splat of the child. Ah no, I meant LoZ: Breath of the SPLATOOOON!
