In regards to Paper Mario: Colour Splash, I'm unsure how to think of it at this current time. My initial feelings of the game, when it was first shown, was disappointment.
After watching the GameXplain analysis video on it, whilst I'm still somewhat disappointed, I am a little more hopeful towards the game. The potential for the card battling mechanic to be a lot of fun is there, and whilst there is an over-abundance of generic toads, I can at least hope that this is only representative of the first part of the game.
I'm left disappointed that what we've so far seen of Paper Mario: Colour Splash is not more like the first two Paper Mario games, and whilst the gameplay makes me feel a different IP (or even new IP) should have been used instead, it does give me hope that it'll be fun. Of course we've only had one trailer so far, and it'd probably be best to take a wait-and-see approach.
@Mister_Wu: It depends. Rumours said that the game was already being localised. It could be that it's almost done, which would explain why the game has already been rated. Doesn't mean it's coming soon, they're probably going to wait until (late?) summer, spring is pretty packed as it is already.
I think Dream Team was the beginning of the "watering down" of the Mario and Luigi series, so it didn't surprise me at all when Paper Jam took it a step further. They weren't bad, they just didn't feel as epic as previous entries. I can only hope the next Mario and Luigi game is more in the vain of BiS. Now that game was truly amazing.
I liked all the Mario & Luigi games, with Paper Jam and Partners in Time being my least favourites and Superstar Saga and Bowser's Inside Story as the favourites.
Do I think there are some things Superstar Saga did best? Sure, the world and exploration was great in that game, and I really liked how much you could explore once you escaped Hoohoo Mountain. The rest of the games never quite matched that aspect, with Dream Team and Paper Jam coming... closest but still not feeling as interesting to play around in.
On the other hand, I'd say the games generally got better and better on a battle mechanics level, with the special attacks, dodges and other gimmicks working much better in the later titles. This:
Is certainly a step up from say, the average Dragon Quest esque 'pick an action and wait' battle gameplay. And credit where it's due, each of the games seems to be adding more and more replay value to the experience. I mean, in the last game, you can replay any mission or mini game you want at any time and rebattle about 90% of the bosses. That's definitely better than Superstar Saga and Partners in Time, where you can't rebattle anyone and a lot of fun mini games and tasks are one time only deals.
Back to Colour Splash... well, someone already got a Hitler rant parody video about it:
I haven't watched the video, but the Hitler rant meme is meant to project the ideas of the public/creator of the video into a very angry and frustrated Hitler, not compare the subject to him.
Still, look on the bright side. They're probably going to edit the hell out of this game after the internet backlash. Maybe the non existence of an official trailer hints that the next announcement/reveal will make up for the original one...
@CM30 I think it's a bit too late to make any drastic changes, and scrapping it and starting over isn't an option, considering that they'll probably want to make a profit off of this product. Really, all we can do now is voice our opinion, not support the game at launch, and pray to God that they actually listened when making Paper Mario NX.

I read so much about how Nintendo should be listening to their fans when it comes to the Paper Mario series. I have only played the first game, and I love it, but I'm looking forward to a new release of what looks like a decent game. The thing I don't get is this, how exactly aren't Nintendo listening to their fans? Money speaks louder than words in the business world, and seeing how both Sticker Star and Super Paper Mario outsold their predecessors why in the world would Nintendo go back to the "good old days"?
Don't get me wrong, I love Paper Mario, I have yet to finish the first game and when I'm done with it I look forward to playing the Thousand Year Door, but I can't understand how Nintendo is being unreasonable when they are making a new Paper Mario title with more influence from Sticker Star than the first two games.
@AlliMeadow What you've gotta remember is that some of the people getting Sticker Star thought that it would provide the same experience of the first two, and weren't aware of what they were in for. I don't think they'll be so willing to give Nintendo money this time.
