I read so much about how Nintendo should be listening to their fans when it comes to the Paper Mario series. I have only played the first game, and I love it, but I'm looking forward to a new release of what looks like a decent game. The thing I don't get is this, how exactly aren't Nintendo listening to their fans? Money speaks louder than words in the business world, and seeing how both Sticker Star and Super Paper Mario outsold their predecessors why in the world would Nintendo go back to the "good old days"?
Don't get me wrong, I love Paper Mario, I have yet to finish the first game and when I'm done with it I look forward to playing the Thousand Year Door, but I can't understand how Nintendo is being unreasonable when they are making a new Paper Mario title with more influence from Sticker Star than the first two games.
Sticker Star sold less than Super Paper Mario, but they didn't return the game to Super Paper Mario's style.
Currently Playing: Steamworld Heist, The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, Tales of Graces F
Sticker Star is just the cheapest version to produce.
If there are no story and no partners and no rpg elements you dont have to spend time and money making them.

Then care to explain the the detailed environment and boss battles?
@Sticker: Like those in the first few games? When you cut stuff and dont replace it with anything it gets cheaper. It does not mean everything is worse.
@AlliMeadow: Yes, Sticker Star and Super Paper Mario sold well but that doesn't mean Color Splash will. Super Paper Mario fully used the Wii hype at the beginning of this era and Sticker Star used a very huge 3DS hardware base to get its sales volume.
No other Nintendo console than the WiiU has such a high percentage of (hardcore) Nintendo fans that completely dislike Sticker Star. Nintendo is indeed unreasonable since their is no way that a disappointing Paper Mario could sell well on the WiiU.
@Chandlero: You're also forgetting that people thought that Sticker Star would be like the first two. But now that we already got a taste of that, there is no way people are going to be as forgiving this time.
There is nothing here...except for the stuff I just typed...
All the comments about Paper Mario 2 and the gallows representing the state of Paper Mario made me think of this picture I've seen posted on Twitter recently:
Very accurate representation of the Paper Mario franchise's current state, I must say. As is this:

Looking at that first picture and listening to the battle theme somehow makes me imagine Paper Mario being hanged, while Miyamoto and Reggie are dancing in a pile of cash.
At least Nintendo aren't like, oh I dunno, Ubisoft for example, who showed us a trailer for Beyond Good & Evil 2 nearly a decade ago and have since only mentioned it in order to get some of their other game to sell well, perpetuating it into a borderline meme over this decade with their "buy Rayman Origins/Legends if you want to see BG&E2!" crap.
Once again I come to this thread and am disappointed with how it's just constant entitled and hyperbolic whinging acting like this one company with this one game are the only ones who do stuff like this. Then again it's not like I was expecting any different particularly from one individual.
I second the appreciation thread idea. The Star Fox Zero thread was bad enough having pages and pages and pages and pages of it just be complains about the graphics (which have since been shock horror improved). Have this thread be memes heralding TTYD and attacking this game for all I care and let's have a separate place where people who are willing to give the game a chance can have more sensible discussions.
