I like the art, but then again, it's supposed to be a "fantasy based on reality", so it looks realistic while still having some fantastical flair, and that's something I've kind of always wanted to see. I'll admit that my second favorite artstyle in a Final Fantasy game was FF8, since it took a similar approach. (Granted, my favorite is FF9)
I don't understand the "fantasy based on reality" movement. When I play a fantasy game, I don't want photorealism in it.

It's pretty much how 99% of western fantasy games do things, really, and it makes it more relateable for the average person. It's a fantasy that feels more like it could actually happen. It's odd when you think about it, yes, but not everyone can really find themselves immersed in a game so far removed visually from reality.

Coincidentally, I don't like western RPGs. I prefer animation because it reminds me of the fantasy nature behind the game.

well fantasy based on reality isn't about the game being photorealistic, moreso that the world exisys takes place in a modern day where magic and technology co-exists. its not much removed from Final Fantasy 7 and 8 which are all cyber punked out. Even the older games had technology in instances, take this as being what the world of FF1 and II look if time moved onward.
my hype for Zesteria isn't up that much yet. Persona 5 I'm looking forward to the soundtrack as soon as possible. Persona 4 golden is fourth on my recent RPGS to play this year.

I just love the fact that the main characters look like a jpop band
And I hate it for the same reason.
FF characters since X mostly look like someone barfed up a bunch of rejected visual kei costume proposals and threw them in a blender.
Nah
XiI had an obvious motif of the stylized D&D framework that Matsuno's games have been known for. Vann looks stupid though.
The Two MMOs are straight up the traditional.old school final fantasy style in terms of dress.
-XIII was an interesting take on clothes for a more colorful cyberpunk world. Vanille and Fang are obviously wearing more tribal gear based on the time period their from. Vanille and Hope are wearing what looks like average year for young people. Sazh and Lightning outfits are more envocative of uniforms that suit their jobs. Even Snows is all surfer dude with the trenchcoat added to be sort of cape like while being down to earth when he's leading the resistance against psicom. Now the sequels are mostly a hot mess.
I do agree about X despite it being my favorite FF game. Other than that I'd disagree that someone threw up since you have to look at costume design in relation to the universe and world its bult upon.
Probably my biggest complaint about XV would be design wise its a bit boring and lacks any real visual flairbin the protags design.
I think Notcis looks pretty dope but he's lacking Amy real visual identity that the past POV FF charvters have.

I should rephrase that. I'm referring almost exclusively to Nomura's designs. Apart from Vaan, XII actually had very good designs, not just for the primary cast, but for supporting characters and NPCs as well.
So Anakin kneels before Monster Mash and pledges his loyalty to the graveyard smash.
If it can run it without years of optimization, then yes. But I don't know if it's economically viable to port it.
It's not. At this point, it's barely going to be economically viable at all. It's at risk of running in the red. FFXV should be a respectable seller, but long development cycles take their toll on any production. The toll is especially drastic on a franchise with the sales trajectory of Final Fantasy.

It's not economically viable to begin with. The game is gonna cost at least $100 million. They'll have to sell like 15 million copies at least. That's bigger than the current Wii U, Xbox One, and PS4 install bases, combined. This is just a guess, but this whole project is basically already way over SE's head.
If Wii U has at least 20 million owners by the time this game launches, it will be viable, but this is just based on what Wii U's expectations currently are, and how many more potential buyers that would make porting a $100 million+ game worthwhile.
I'm just speculating, but there probably is a concrete number that SE is looking for. SE was going to release games on Xbox One and PS4, regardless. Even if PS4 had 2 million sales right now, it would still have BF4, Rayman Legends, 2K 2014 , etc, because they put alot of blind faith into those systems. It just so happens to be paying off, though.
EDIT: Also, I'm aware all of this doesn't entirely pertain to your post, but it's still part of the economics. It would cost only a fraction to port, so the userbase is basically a gamble unless the odds are on their side. With a 20 million userbase, I think a Wii U port would be a safe bet.
I do once again think what will ultimately sink this idea is that SE is too afraid to risk their picture perfect graphics in even the slightest way and FFXV is one of the only games that looks to me like a worthwhile next gen graphics leap at all.

I dunno, that new engine they're working on looks really good at rendering hallways and rectangular rooms.

I feel like every time a new FF is announced people are like "Wow this is pushing graphical quality to a new level," then the game comes out and the edges they cut to get those graphics become obvious.
People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

Well there have been only 3 final fantasy games in recent memory. Even going back to the original release the footage of what we saw Versus XIII was much more open than XIII.
But let's be honest the best two final fantsu games in the past ten years don't even have the FF namesake.
