Topic: Demand Final Fantasy XV on the Wii U

Well, any discussion about Wii U ports will invariably bring up specs and install base arguments, so with that said:

Maybe Nintendo should just work on getting some "cheaper" JPRGs going on the Wii U. I haven't seen the sales figures for Bravely Default yet, but I'm sure that once it hits NA, it will be a very healthy profit margin for SE. Clearly, there's an audience for "retro" feeling JRPGs on Nintendo platforms. Maybe that's where the focus should be. Before we talk about getting a port of next-gen juggernauts in power output like FFXV, maybe we should create a demand in JRPGs with more modest spec requirements.

Look at NIS. How much does it cost to make a Disgaea game, really? And how taxing is it on your machine? I'll bet Disgaea 3 and 4 cost less than 20% of what Final Fantasy XIII and XIII-2 did. Now, Disgaea is a very niche title, but my point is that it's a consistently good JRPG series produced at a fraction of the cost of the SE heavy hitters. Phantom Brave: We Meet Again was a nice little port from NIS on the Wii. It didn't sell very well, but I'm sure it turned a profit anyway because it was cheap as dirt.

The huge audience for JRPGs on Sony consoles didn't just happen over night. It's been building a loyal following ever since the late 90s. It won't just happen overnight for the Wii U either. Nintendo should be talking more to companies like Atlus, NIS, and Aksys, giving them some money to make "budget" JRPGs for the Wii U. Then when the install base is there, we can talk about SE.

But I think Kingdom Hearts 1.5 and 2.5 are no-brainers for successful potential SE JRPG ports on the Wii U, to be honest.

This is a really good idea. And, if you look at Fire Emblem with the release of Fire Emblem: Awakening, niche JRPGs can become mainstream overnight. I still support FFXV on the Wii U, but I also wholeheartedly support this idea.
EDIT: I support the "budget" RPGs and Kingdom Hearts 1.5 and 2.5.

Is that a good thing, or a bad thing?

Take it as a compliment.

Anyway, didn't the Wii bring some of those JRPGs? Heck Nintendo owns Monolith, so we're still getting some RPGs on the systems. Now they need to sweet talk Sega Sammy for some Atlus exclusives

I feel Monolith Soft, Retro Studios, and Intelligent Systems are going to make some of the best Wii U games, or just games in general. I mean, Monolith's track record is outstanding (especially Xenoblade), Retro Studios hasn't ever made a game that wasn't fantastic, and Intelligent Systems makes some of the most atmospheric and innovative RPGs ever (Fire Emblem and Paper Mario).

As for the Atlus exclusives, I have never played an Atlus game (although I think I'm going to play the Etrian Odyssey IV demo this weekend), so naturally I am more excited for Square-Enix RPGs, but any RPGs on the Wii are welcome and encouraged.

Quick questions: should I buy Shin Megami Tensei IV? Should I buy Etrian Odyssey IV? Should I buy Etrian Odyssey Untold: The Millennium Girl? (I've become interested in Atlus as of late!)

Monolith is about the only studio willing to put an AAA RPG on a Nintendo console right now, and that's mostly (entirely) because Nintendo is their bankroll.

I'm not sure I would call The Last Story an AAA title, but it's pretty close if not. I would love for Mistwalker to do a project for the Wii U.

Short answer: yes.

Long answer: Atlus is one of the most consistently good JRPG developers in the business. If you see their logo, you can probably trust the game. Etrian Odyssey and Shin Megami Tensei are both more dungeon crawlers than they are modern RPGs, but there's definitely charm in that. I just bought Etrian Odyssey Untold myself and I've been loving it so far. The class system is fairly extensive and the dungeon mapping gives you plenty to do.

I also highly recommend Radiant Historia for DS. It's got a great Chrono Trigger vibe to it.

If you're new to the EO series, then you may want to play EO Untold: Millennium Girl first.

Untold Girl, I really like EOIV buy the lack of story makes the grind not worth it at times. Plus SMTIV is pretty mature and in not sure about your age.

I just played the first level of the Etrian Odyssey IV demo, and it was amazing. I will definitely be buying more Atlus RPGs now. Now, knowing that I so far love Etrian Odyssey IV from the first dungeon, but that I'm still an Atlus RPG rookie, and I loved Square-Enix's SNES and PS1 RPGs, and any Intelligent Systems RPG, AND any game from Operation Rainfall (Xenoblade Chronicles, The Last Story, and Pandora's tower), AND I love Pokémon, which Atlus games should I buy?
EDIT: Mature content is allowed.

If we're talking just about DS/3DS, there's definitely some great games, most already mentioned. EO and SMT are their flagships for Nintendo.

3DS
Etrian Odyssey Untold
Etrian Odyssey IV
Shin Megami Tensei IV
Devil Survivor: Overclocked
Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers

DS
Radiant Historia
Devil Survivor 2 (this one is apparently being remade as a 3DS game like Overclocked)
Etrian Odyssey II and III
Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey

The games that Atlus publish but do not develop can be a little more hit (Legacy of Ys) or miss (Luminous Arc), but are, for the most part, trustworthy as well. Even Luminous Arc is merely "OK," but not outright bad. Kind of a reverse Square-Enix going on there. I find myself apathetic towards SE's first party offerings these days, but they're still publishing a lot of great content made by 2nd/3rd parties.

Atlus is pretty legit. Still playing through E0IV slowly myself but its a really great game. I wish it has more story like Untold Story does but its a minor gripe.

I really hope Nintendo can convince RPG makers to come aboard like they have with the 3DS.

Questions: How do the the Devil Survivor games compare to the Fire Emblem games? How does Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers compare to Shin Megami Tensei IV? How does Radiant Historia compare to Chrono Trigger? How do the Shin Megami Tensei games compare to the Etrian Odyssey games?

Radiant Historia is comparable in that it is a fantastic game in every way, it was honestly my favorite game of 2011 (even after playing Skyward Sword, Skyrim, Portal 2, Arkham City, Ghost Trick etc), I believe it was made some of the people who made Chrono Trigger, has a fairly similar look and most importantly, is a JRPG about time travel.

Would you say it was better or worse than Chrono Trigger? Or are they about the same? Or is it a hard comparison to make?

I think the problem was that they're trying to make the game simply perfect on the PS4 and Xbox One. I think it functions, but they don't feel it's polished enough. I know that a Wii U version wouldn't be up to the levels of perfection as the PS4 and Xbox One versions, but I'm fine with that; I just want the game.
