So it's finally time once again for a very long overdue ShpydarhaulTM! Most of these are from my most recent trip to the retro shop several weeks back, with some eBay grabs thrown in.
Air-Sea Battle, original release gatefold box, CIB (2600) - I only need one more cart for a full set of the original 9 Atari VCS launch games (actually, as i was typing up this post, i nabbed the last one), but only a cart-only set. I have 2 CIB including this game now, and probably going to slowly assemble a full CIB set. Pretty sure the retro shop has at least 2 or 3 others that i need.
NES - Got a new NES, it's fully cleaned and such, new pin connector, etc etc. I still have my original NES and it does still work, but it's tempermental so has since been retired. I've been using a Retron 1 for quite a while now, but the occasional, very slight, variations in colors and sound from the original system were bugging me so i just grabbed a new NES. Besides, i like having the NES there amongst the consoles, it just feels right.
Rush'N Attack (NES) - Absolutely loved this game back in the day, and i still do. It took some time to get back into the groove, but eventually it all came back to me and i was able to beat it. The last couple levels can get rough!
GameShark 2.0 (N64) - I've never owned a GameShark, GameGenie or anything like that before (though i have used Genie codes on occasion when playing games via MAGIC). I actually got this just so i could finally beat Hercules — there's a boss fight late in the game which is so ridiculously stupid and near-impossible because of the horrid controls. Gonna have some fun with this thing.
TRON joystick (2600) - Look at this thing. Seriously, just look at it. So. Effing. Awesome. Even Sasha Grey approves.
ET, CIB (2600) - Another boxed copy, another brick in the wall that leads to WORLD DOMINATION.
And finally ...
ET mug (+ 2600 manual & tips sheet) - This was another one of those ET things that Mike the Retro Shop guy found and grabbed for me. He's cool like that. We were having a good laugh about how it basically looks like a living turd crawled on to a coffee mug. Also, not sure if it's clear in the picture, but ET is totally rocking a "Tiger Beat" teen idol type pose, which makes it extra awesome.
That's it for now, might have some more pick-ups after this weekend if i make it over to the retro shop this weekend.
As a final bonus, check out this video. It's a short piece that Pete Dorr (he of All-Gen Gamers) did about Mike and the retro shop i go to. It was filmed a few years ago, back when the shop was at its previous basement location next to Big Chief Lewis (a large Native American statue that is somewhat of a Long Island landmark and was the basis of the shop's name, Video Game Trading Post).

for a second, just for a second...i looked at this way to fast and my mind was piecing together what it could have been...

And yes, he is (usually) always right, and he is (almost) the sexiest gamer out there (not counting me) ;)
@johntmanic:
i dunno i liked it. its one of the only games i know of that gives you a better weapon as you get weaker.

People haven't bought anything for awhile I guess.
I ordered a Chiki Chiki Boys Genesis cart.
Awhile ago, I found Tecmo Super Bowl II for SNES with box for $10. Not really a sports fan but I couldn't pass a rare game like that up at that price.
Never did post. Yep, that Tail Concerto seemed pretty real. I recall it was pretty much CIB for the loose price.
Ordered The Legend of Oasis for the Sega Saturn today. Had to get it disc only, but someone had a replacement box + insert for $4, so I got that, too.
And yes, I got it today because Ever Oasis' announcement reminded me of Beyond Oasis, which then reminded me that I never played the sequel to BO. Granted, Ever Oasis isn't related to those games in any way whatsoever, life's just funny like that...
I've been meaning to get to the retro shop for the past several weeks, but something always seems to come up. In the meantime, i did pick up original gatefold-boxed releases of Combat and Blackjack for Atari 2600 (no pics cuz i'm lazy). While i do have cart-only copies of the original version of the 9 VCS launch titles, my latest avenue of 2600 collecting has been going for full gatefold-boxed versions of the launch titles. I have 4 already, and i believe the retro shop has at least 2 or 3 more that i need, but i know the last 1 or 2 are going to end up being a chore to find (Basic Math will probably be the hardest to find).
@the_shpydar
ive been wondering how that shops been going over there. id like to visit it one day.

@ogo79 I finally made it over to the shop last weekend. I don't know if i mentioned this in a previous post, but they now have a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles arcade cabinet there, which is awesome. While i was there, Mike was trying to sell me an Atari ET store display mobile, complete and unopened in-package (i think The Nerd had had it displayed in a few episodes, for reference) ... he couldn't find it in the back, but was said he'll cut me a sweet deal on it — it usually can go for $100-$200 (or more), but he got it as part of a big lot that included a complete boxed Power Glove, and he's already more than made his money back just from the sale of the Glove alone. So he doesn't care if he sells the ET mobile to me for cheap, since i am well-known at the shop as "the ET guy" . Stay tuned, as it'll surely turn up here sooner or later ...
In the meantime, a little ShpydarHaulTM:
Turok 3: Shadow of Oblivion (N64) - I greatly enjoy the first 2 Turok games, but i never had this one and had never played it before. Good so far, though it is hard to re-adjust back into N64-style FPS controls after being spoiled by dual analogs for all these years.
Demon Sword (NES) - Another purchase to blame on HG101, after reading about its sort-of connection to Legend of Kage, which i love. This game is fun, though fairly easy and pretty short.
Ninja Kid (NES) - This is a curious game. Even though it's nothing like it, i always associate this game in my mind with Deadly Towers (another game that i'll eventually grab sooner or later just on principle and nostalgia). Back in the day, my friend got both games around the same time, and both of them are rife with "what the hell is going on here?" While my friend eventually did beat Deadly Towers (it annoyed him so much, he eventually dedicated an entire weekend to doing nothing but playing and defeating DT), neither of us ever managed to get through this one.
So with that, as Johnny Millennium always says, "Anyways guys, until next time."
Is Turok 3 the one with the stupidly expensive gray variant going around (supposedly it was a bugfix to the normal cart, which Acclaim only sent out to people that complained about the regular version)?
The only thing I remember about Demon Sword is some Let's Play or something like "you just jump real high over everything? ... 'oh but that's not playing with strategy?' (referring to the very close attack range of swords or whatever) 'what happens when you play with strategy? YOU ***** DIE!' "
Ninja Kid was one of at least three anime-based games Bandai released in the early days of the NES, with the licenses stripped out for America. The other two are much better known: the crazy expensive Chubby Cherub, and Dragon Power, the one based on an IP people in America have (now, not in 1987) actually heard of. Probably why I got a cart and manual for this game cheap a few years ago.
@KingMike
Yeah, i believe Turok 3 is the game with the crazy-expensive variant. If i remember correctly (as you mention) the variant was only available if people contacted Acclaim directly, which explains why it's so rare (much like the exclusive Atari Club-only 2600 games).
Demon Sword does have the insanely high Legend of Kage-style jump, and you can blast through levels that way. But if you actually play through it killing enemies and such, you get power-ups, magic, etc which make the game much more fun (and easier). The shortness of the sword in the early levels can be rough (though since it's basically the same as the LoK sword, it didn't bother me), but since your sword grows after every other level, it's not really a problem.
I also have Dragon Power and having originally played it way back in the day knowing nothing about the original anime on which it was based, once i finally saw Dragonball episodes many many many years later, i kept thinking, "Hey, this has a lot of things in it like that weird NES game!"

That's Turok Rage Wars. It fixed a bug where you couldn't complete the 2 player mode. You had to call them and then ask about the bug to know about the variant existing, iirc. It would be much, much rarer, but someone found a box in a warehouse with ~100 of them some years back.
@Fiyaball
Ahh, thank you. I couldn't remember if it was Turok 3 or Rage Wars (which i remember playing when it came out, but being thoroughly disappointed with since it wasn't a "real" 3rd game), but had thought it was 3, with the glitch having to do with the multiplayer mode. And now that you mention it, i do remember hearing about that batch of them being found (even though it will still usually go for around $100-$150, compared to like $10 or less for the original release).
@the_shpydar
oh im sure that et display will turn up soon. as soon as he sees it hes gonna give you a call i already know lol. i almost got demon sword a few years ago, yeah its like legend of kage with a mix of that movie hidden tiger crotch less pants or whatever its called type action. dragon power...did you get the famicom exclusive boxed version with actual real dragon power pills?

My most precious retro console is SNES but I always wanted to have a Mega Drive as well. The most valuable console I have is a French RGB Nintendo 64. I also have a launch GameCube (with digital port) and a Game Boy Advance SP.
I really don't like the navigation bar of Nintendo Life continuously reappearing while browsing!!
