Village did solve most of my "ok but this isn't resident evil" issues I had with 7, from a narrative point of view. It explained everything about 7 that felt off, and even provided a link with the other games

And yeah there's a few unkillable pursuers, but they never overstay they welcome. Even Dimitrescu, the most notable one, is considerably less agressive than Mr X.

@Eel @Zuljaras Brilliant.

Well, I won't get to VII or Village any time soon. But I think I'm going to start playing through the series in order, and when I get to the latest games, I'll absolutely be as open-minded about them as possible. I'm cool with chase sequences if they're not through the entire game. And if the game is good enough (RE2make), I can often still overlook that element.

Currently Playing: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond (NS2); Corpse Factory (PC)

@Ralizah I'd absolutely recommend approaching 7 and 8 like they're their own story, instead of a continuation of the same story from the previous games. Yes, that would make it better/easier to get into.

But, again, it didn't feel like RE to me. It's not even really the lack of zombies. RE games had a lot of enemy types. It's that the series went from being a fun mix of camp, action, and tense horror to full-on campy action with a hint of horror. It was a different type of game entirely.

I can see how it would be annoying if you really like one of those styles a lot more than the other.
I'm lucky in that I quite like both styles, so Resident Evil has always been a pretty great series for me.

Couldn't believe my luck on Thursday night.

Went to EB Games, and enquired about both new Xbox and PS5 consoles. No Xbox orders at this point, BUT they were taking PS5 orders - ending at 9pm on that night (I walked in at 7) and they didn't know when there'll be another opportunity to order soon. The consoles are due in July.

So I placed an order for one (disc edition) with the required $200 deposit that I can get a refund on at any time should I change my mind for whatever reason.

Both Xbox Series X and PS5 have been nigh impossible to get here - even stores taking orders have been rare, so this was too good an opportunity to let slip.

When will you get that, @Tendo64....? Glad you got lucky with it, anyway

My goodness, Ace Combat 7 is a gorgeous game.

I found The Last of Us Part II for 15$! I will finally play it. As I already know the story (spoiler alert it is crap) I will enjoy the combat and the scenery of the game.

JoyBoy

@RR529 is it fun? I sometimes see it on sale, but I'm not sure what to make of it.

I just finished Spiderman, Judgement, Outer Wilds and 999. Weirdly enough I enjoyed Spiderman more when I unlocked the comic costume, it looks great and works surprisingly well with the otherwise realistic aesthetic of the game. Outer Wilds was a highlight, I can definitely recommend it if you like mystery and exploration. It sometimes gave me Prime feels even.

Spent most of the weekend beginning a new profile in Dying Light.

Still a top-five favorite game from the PS4/Xbone era.

Looks like we might be getting news on Dying Light 2 tomorrow?

Switch 2 Physical Collection - 4 games (as of December 8th, 2025)

@JoyBoy, I think it's pretty fun, though a bit tougher than I was expecting (though that's probably because it doesn't have the QTE's the 3DS game had that let you automatically dodge missiles).

They reckon July, but more towards the end of the month.

There is a chance it might be earlier though. If we are looking at late July, it at least gives me a chance to get through some of my Switch backlog that never seems to completely dissipate.

Cool, gives you some time to get games for it, too, @Tendo64.... 😎

Awesome, PC later, @Slowdive .... Have they worked out we know that, regardless of what they say about PS exclusive?

Oh, he's definitely done lots of great stuff, @Slowdive .... I'm guessing it's people who aren't so keen on some of his more recent work that are 'outraged'? We'll see what his involvement in this one is when we hear more!

Sony is starting early with announcements as there's a Horizon Forbidden West State of Play on May 27th. Makes me wonder if it's launching earlier than we expect as game specific State of Play has generally been around 2 months before launch (e.g. Ratchet & Clank State of Play in April, Returnal State of Play in February)

Dezzy

Well this was probably their biggest feature of their "not-E3" event, so I guess this is it 2 weeks early?

I’d say it’s the most important Sony title this year. So the more we see the better.
