I was quite close in my guess then.
If you read the negative reviews, it's a similar story as XCX in quite a few of them. A lot just don't like this style of game that much.
I wonder how the original Xenoblade seemed to avoid that with reviewers.
Oh well, either way, it's basically the same score as XCX, which I regarded (like the original) as a kind of 95% score, as I like all of the systems and whatnot in these games. Oh and I don't care about the lower quality in handheld mode.
Yeah, that's possibly it. A lot of people who grew up on this genre were pretty bummed about how bad the 7th gen was. Luckily we've seen a bit of a comeback now.
It won't get back up to the levels we saw in the JRPG gold rush following FF7, but it's better than it was.
I think a lot of the love for the original Xenoblade was also how original its world was. Whereas XCX is just a kind of generic alien world and XC2 is just the XC1 idea reformatted.
So, only 85 on Metacritic for XC2... Sniff... Better cancel my preorder...
Still, that makes it two percentage points better than Splatoon 2, and a whole point higher than the PC version of Nier Automata. Maybe it'll just be up to snuff.
@YummyHappyPills Somebody obviously hates you, that sucks that you’ve had so many late deliveries. If it wasn’t for the prices being higher on the E-shop I’d buy every game digitally. It’s about £10 more than buying it from Amazon, although they currently have £5 off if you use PayPal, but I’m sticking with my order from Amazon and hoping for the best.
I would say these are pretty respectable scores. Nothing surprising on either end of the spectrum but respectable.
I think my main issues with XCX were the characters, whom I couldn‘t care less about. The world didn‘t look too interesting and nor did the characters or monsters. I gave up on it because well, for me to spend over a hundred hours on a game, I just really gotta love it. I obviously loved XC1 (so much that I actually replayed it on N3DS after my Wii file got deleted from one hour to the next with roughly 80% completion) and the characters and world of XC2 both look infinitely better and more lifely to me than XCX ever did in the ten or so hours I spent on it. I can‘t wait to bring it home tomorrow evening and play it in the morning.
@YummyHappyPills Seems that way, I hope your luck changes and it does come tomorrow. I’m really hoping mine does as well, as I have a day off. I’m so excited to play this game, I’m pretty new to JRPG’s, but I have fallen in love with them, so I’m pretty sure I’m going to enjoy this game a lot.
Blue Dragon is a really good game. Maybe not on the level of "All time greatest" but still a really good game. It's like Sakaguchi's Dragon Quest, while Lost Odyssey is his Final Fantasy.
And Last Story is one of the best JRPG's ever made. The Guch is not one to be trifled with. Lost Odyssey and The Last Story are mint, A1 classics.
But anyways... It's time. It's Xenoblade Eve, and not a sound in the house. Everyone's waiting, as quiet as a mouse. The tension is building, the hype is unreal. This wait here is killing me as I type this... oh dear.

@YummyHappyPills I've stopped preordering Switch games from Amazon after my first two were delayed. Something about the preordering system just doesn't work right. Not worth the aggravation IMO.

Remind yourself that overconfidence is a slow and insidious killer.
@YummyHappyPills It’s a joke if even the official Nintendo store doesn’t deliver it on time. I’ve had dispatch emails really late in the evening before, so there’s still hope for you.
@Hughesy It has happened plenty of times before, the first game that was common to be delayed by them was Color Splash last year. It's all gone downhill from then, there was even a giant thread on these forums regarding Switch delays.
@Tsurii I get it too, I mean the leaks p*** me off too, and it makes sense to, but this is...this is insane.
They did this with Pokemon, well the Pokemon Company did. XY had a worldwide release date. Got broken in the EU. Guess who got ORAS and SM a week later than the rest of the world?
Honestly I wouldn't be shocked if the EU starts getting games late again.
@Grumblevolcano Don't remind me about that Switch launch mess. That was most online retailers ballsing it up.
@Hughesy Nintendo doesn't run it themselves, just licenses it. Honestly in the past 13 months I've had more games be late from ANYWHERE I ordered, be it GAME, Nintendo UK Store, Amazon, whatever, than on time.
I got Pokemon Moon a day early, but it was about 5 days after the US anyway...
I got Colour Splash late.
I got my Switch and BOTW late.
I got Samus Returns late
I got Crash Bandicoot late
I got Sonic Forces late
I got Ultra Moon VERY late
Xenoblade is most likely late.
See a trend with physical games in the UK?

I‘ve long stopped preordering games over sites like Amazon. Years back, the mailman just didn‘t do his rounds when not enough packages or mail was in, forcing me to wait until Monday to get games. Luckily, that guy was fired and our new mailman shows up every day in the exact same hour. But ever since, Amazon would sent EVERY package through Hermes, who always bring the packages late evening at 8 PM, have the stench of cigar smoke and are rather hot in the summers, still on time and I know this is nothing compared to before, but still.
I‘d much rather take the trip into town and buy games from the local GameStop, which I’ve done for years now. These guys at least know what they‘re selling and have a general knowledge of games. I just have to step in and they already know exactly why I‘m here. And they‘ve always been reliable with preorder and reservations alike. Honestly, all these comments make me a tad worry they won‘t have it tomorrow but I‘m known to always be the pessimistic and paranoid one - to save me from disappointment and make success oh so sweeter.
