And the burst gauge takes the place of the party gauge during a chain attack. With every seal broken, a bit is added to the burst gauge. When full, all party members unleash Lvl 4 Specials simultaneously. I can't figure out just how the increments are calculated after each broken seal, but it usually takes me 4 or 5 to start the "Full Burst." The most seals I managed to rack up before starting a chain attack so far is 6. That led to my chain attack doing around 7,000,000 damage. Once I get a dark Blade, it'll be easier to add the remaining 2 and getting max damage (9,999,999).

This game has the best gameplay of all the xenoblade games so far. In my opinion of course

And the blade dynamic is very original too. I like the combat mechanics a great deal, I can actually get the hang of them now. I'm also in the camp where the menu and systems make more sense to be honest - far easier for me to understand what I'm doing and what's going on while I play the game. All with a lot better action to boot.

I really like the characters too. And all the tongue in cheek humour in it is awesome. I'm firmly in the "more sex stuff in games" camp so bring more skimpiness. But not tora. No way .

Bottom line, this is a masterpiece so far. I haven't finished it because I'm only a couple of chapters in, yet I've seen a lot of moments that make me go "oh this is so going to xenoblade the story threefold later" - if you know what I mean.

Great game, really enjoying it. Highly recommended to pick it up. It's big, fun, beautiful, comic, legendary, original, and plays really great.

I don't have any blades with a launch art skill yet which is a bit of a bummer. I can break and topple but never seen a launch!

Edit: I probably have some common blades with launch arts but is anyone actually using those for anything but merc missions?

Pretty much what you said. They are worth for field skills also but that’s about it. I got lucky enough to get 4 rare blades through lottery system so now I have all abilities from break, topple, launch to smash 💪👊
I’ll wait more rares for more battle variety rather then play with those ugly, boring commons.

@Galenmereth @CroRock Cool, thanks. I have 40 common cores I might burn through to try and get another rare (or two?!)

The AI does seem pretty consistent when it comes to switching to the blade to extend combos etc.

What do we think of the inability to switch blades between characters, without using a rare item at least? It's one area that seems a bit too restrictive perhaps?

I think it’s BS.. only found 3 Overdrive Protocols so far and waisted first one on common. Someone said here you can get more when you complete Blades ability tree. Wouldn’t mind if they sell for like 50.000 golds from vendors just to have an option to buy them if I really need them.

I have one big, fat, round, ugly rare Blade always leading my group of “useless” mercenaries 😁. Can’t stand his (or her lol) size and ugliness in walking around the world and specially in battles where I don’t see a s*it even if I max out the zoom.. also he/she/it is a healer and bound to Rex... speaking of Overdrive Protocols 😉

Also, if you release 4 star common Blades, you get an Overdrive Protocol.

I've quite liked the randomness of blades. Just got 3rd for Rex and I Nia has 2 (not counting Pyra and Dromarch). I've had quite good luck. I think it's close to 1 from 10 crystals for me when it comes to rare blades. The only one I have that I don't really like is Godfrey. He was my first rare and bound to Rex. He's just too slow when it comes to combat. I much rather use Pyra and Kora. I haven't tried my newest blade yet since I stopped after I summoned her. She is some kind of animal girl with two other animals on her shoulders.

Thank you very much for the replies!

Yes hate (heito) signifies aggro! i just got to the tutorial when this is explained. i'm playing in japanese.

One thing i'm not sure though : from what i understand, when i execute a special attack (the right icon that can be level 1 or 2 sometimes) i see at the up right corner the powers of the enemie that are sealed, which will stay.
if a comrade has his special attack ready, a prompt button will appear at the right or left of the screen and (atfer pressing the button) this too will cause the ennemie to have his powers sealed, the element of the attack will replace the element of the precedent special atack.
But why do the tutorial call that a "stage 3 combo" or something? and why calling this a blade combo? it's my comarade that execute his special attack, i didn't do anything(ok i activated his^^) (if my special attack is at level 1, after that i activated the special attack of my comrade, my special attack is still at level 1, it didn't get "used")... is it because it implies that i have a level 1 special attack ready and my comarade has a level2 so 1+2=3??
does blade combo mean : special attack level 2 or higher from a comrade when i have a special attack level 1 ready?

and one little important thing : the game told me that to take levels i needed to sleep in an inn, which i've done several times......but when i'm playing regularly, i see that my character takes levels! like right know, by killing a monster i got to level 13 and my life increased...so the stats increase?? so why going to the inn then??i would prefer if the stats stay the same until i decide to level^^

if you could explain to me some of these things_ sorry, i think i didn't make myself very clear_ it would be very nice

thank you very much:)
ah! i had compltely forgotten about this "elemental path" ^^ now the word "blade combo" makes more sence since i'm supposed to do several of the special attacks in a specific order!

for the xp, ohh so i need to be carefull about overleveling when fighting monsters^^and i had forgotten about that bonus xp ...

Boreas is one of the best blades in the game, no joke

@CroRock

U can put Boreas as merc, but affinity wont rise unless you unlock th Argentum Warehouse and stock food in it. So it kinda wastes time if you only are at affinity level 1

kyleforrester87

@Pahvi He means a common blade with a level four rare rating, not just any four common blades.

I've yet to get a common blade beyond a three mind you so not been able to try.

Well, dismissing four common Blades didn't net me an Overdrive protocol. And I dismissed probably closer to eight Blades.

I think someone said that dismissing one 4 ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️ common gives you OP not dismissing 4 common blades. But I could be wrong

I read on IGN guide that luck stat increases chances for better blades. That should include items and gems with luck boost. Guess we can’t know for sure because no official guide ofc

@maelis leveling at the inn is up to you how hard you want the game to be also maybe dependent on how many side quests a person wants to do.

I am chapter 6 and have only taken 1 level at the inn and have so many level ups i could take at this point it's funny. Other thing is i do every quest and try to be as complete as i can.

I am at about the same level as the enemies.. but things like, there was this boss fight i couldn't figure out. After i looked online i saw it was another enemy that needed to be killed first but instead i was wasting my time trying different elements on the boss.. well after i learned the strat i win no problem and i was about the level of the boss... well later i read people online posting about it and they say their heroes are like 10 levels higher than mine were and even knowing the strat they are still losing asking for help.

So i guess it's your choice about using the inn.. for a player like me, i don't know if the game gets to a point where everyone needs to use the inn to beat the game.. but you'll want to use the inn for post game content to max out your level.

@Inertiacreep those pesky cables

I'm chapter 6, 60 hours, levels 40-50. I like levelling at the inns and getting overpowered with plenty of grinding in games like this!
