Topic: Octopath Traveler

What do you work with that gives you time to play? Wish I could do the same.

Just started it up yesterday evening after getting the physical copy. Will play more today. But my initial reaction is WOW! Love the graphics and the music. Started with Therion.

I started with Tressa but have also got Cyrus and Ophelia. I didn't have as much time as I wanted to play this as I wanted yesterday

I was planning on just playing lots this weekend but I can see what the Director/Producer (I forgot which one said it) was mentioning, it's a really good game to play just before going to sleep! The soft visuals and great music make things relaxing and almost dream-like, it's impressive how at ease it can make me feel.

I beat the first demo with both Primrose and Olberic and started the second demo with H'aanit and met Ophelia and Therion. Now I decided to start from the beginning and started with Cyrus. I've went clockwise so I now have Tressa and Olberic in my team and I just got to Sunshade so I'm going to recruit Primrose soon.

So far I like all characters. My favorites have been Primrose and H'aanit. Primrose thanks to her story and H'aanit because of her combat skills. While I like Cyrus, I'm not really a fan of his Study skill that gets triggered at the start of the battle. He also has a support skill that makes random encounters happen less often. He seems like easy mode in some sense but otherwise I like him. His path action is one of my favorites.

I'm wondering if every character seems overpowered at first but then struggles more on the other half of the map, because surely every character can't be this good all of the time?

Tressa seems to be good at most things and Cyrus can find every weakness that an enemy has in 2-3 turns. The only character I remember not being particularly impressed by in battle during the demo was Therion, but he has multiple uses in the towns.

@Kimyonaakuma My favorite right now is actually Therion since he can Steal stuff, then can nearly mow down everything once enemy is broken with Steal HP / Steal SP that can patch him up without using items at all

(but this might change once I get a feel of other people in party I guess)

I finally have all of the characters! I'm definitely happy with my decision to start the game from the beginning, I enjoyed it even more than my time with the demo.

Just started Tressa's second chapter, the difficulty seems to have increased quite a bit but at least it's easier when grinding levels. Good to see the characters talk to eachother too

Regarding Tressa, I found it hilarious in her first chapter when she got pissed at those pirates for stealing - and in my party one of her allies is a thief himself, Therion.

Playing this game throughout the day. Man this game is excellent!

Beat Primrose's chapter 1, then went and did Olberic's chapter 1 and recruited him. And I got to say I enjoyed his path just as much as Primrose's this time around. For some reason when I played his path in the first demo I thought it was good but not spectacular, but this time it... I just really liked it. In fact I think it's right up there with Primrose. I love the story and characters in this game. So good.

I want to start getting hyped for Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate, because it's just over a month away and it's one of my favorite series of all time but I can't seem to think about anything else other than Octopath and YS VIII right now. These two games are so incredible and to have them back to back, even games like Wolfenstein 2 and Captain Toad and Shining Resonance and Crash Trilogy and Mario Tennis Aces and the almighty Hollow Knight are having to take a back seat.

I liked all of the first chapters but I think Primrose had a greater effect on me emotionally, her beginning was just an emotional rollercoaster!

I appreciate how there is a variety in each character's story so far, there's some light-hearted journeys mixed in with the epic and emotional ones, and I like how you can choose whichever one you feel like and pause and resume them whenever too!

Apparently the game is selling out across Japan and Square Enix is running out of stock, which is good news! Hopefully it means that it's selling lots of copies and not that they underestimated it

I really like Tressa's donate BP ability. I usually give it to Therion, actually, as he has a really wicked dagger that cost me a fortune, and his steal HP/SP abilities are so powerful.

Primrose's story is definitely the best so far. Just completed her first chapter. So engaging. So good to have a villain you can properly despise, rather than someone who's just corny.

@bixente Donate BP is so useful! I usually give the BP to Cyrus so he can use his spells, it makes grinding levels much faster

I still haven't finished Tressa's chapter (I had to sleep ), but Primrose is definitely the next chapter I'll be going to try. And it's in the Frostlands which might be my favourite area! The music and visuals are just so amazing, I stop just to listen to the music sometimes

Octopath Traveler is such a great game. It just oozes quality.
I beat chapter 1 for both Primrose and Zeph and enjoyed them tremendously.

I believe both I am Setsuna and Lost Sphere ended up losing Square money, so I really hope this sells well.

This game is selling so well in Japan that Square Enix is apologizing for supply shortages.

@Fight_Teza_Fight do you know Setsuna and Lost Sphere lost them money or just assuming? I'd have thought the my were pretty cheap to make and they sold them for high enough - wasn't Lost Sphere like £40?!

As for OT I am enjoying it, got all 8 team mates and branched into the harder areas. Lots of fun.

@Grumblevolcano This is exciting to hear. I just hope the shortages don’t put people off buying the game in the long run.

Really loving this game so far, still going around the map and getting all the characters. I'm curious who everyone started with, I chose Ophilia mostly cause I like snowy areas but ended up really liking her.

@Nekoo77 I started with Tressa because she seemed to be a fun character who will find lots of money and items, which is useful to start with.

Personally I like all of the characters but Ophelia and Primrose are standing out so far, they're just great characters

In other news, the second boss on Tressa's story is really difficult, It just has too much HP! Around 30,000 HP! And it can add extra shields so it can take up to 9 hits to break it...

@Kimyonaakuma I haven't got to Primrose yet but I love Tressa, I like getting money by just walking around, it's very useful.

Ophilia is my favorite so far but everyone seems to really like Primrose so I'm excited to get her.
