@JaxonH
Totally agree on your long rant there. This is also kinda why I keep coming back to this forum. We have our share of numpties here, I'm sure I fit that category on occasion myself, but generally the convos here are more based in reality.

The front page, Reddit and YouTube. Completely different story. And this NSO+ saga really has drawn out the stupid. I thought the Switch Pro/OLED saga was the low, somehow we went lower

@Pizzamorg Oh yeah, it's definitely not a great remaster. There are framerate hitches (far fewer in portable mode, btw), compressed audio in battles, and minimal work done on the presentation itself. Although being able to choose which skills are inherited during fusions still makes it the definitive way to play the game, IMO. I'd sell my PS2 copy if I wasn't keeping it for collection purposes.

You'll get the hang of negotiations if you keep at it. I've obtained several of them on the first try! A lot of it is very random, though. And while it's probably not an option at the moment, keep in mind that various demons throughout the game will have negotiation skills they can learn that can make it much easier to sway a target.

I managed to add to my ranks some weird bondage angel and some sort of blue belly dancer lady, so now it looks like I am fighting with a nightmare haram. Pokemon, this is not. If I wanted to infuse them together, I get some sort of leggy furball with a big trunk. I have to assume that is some weird deliberate sex thing, haha.

Damn, I thought it was bad yesterday. Jumped on youtube and because I've watched a few Metroid Dread speedrun and N64 gameplay vids lately it's just filled with stuff about NSO. And boy, there's a LOT of clickbaity trash out there right now. I mean I get these guys need to generate clicks and outrage sells but damn. The way people are going on about this you'd think Nintendo is coming into people's houses and kneecapping their pets or something

I remember the quality of the VC on the Wii U and the quality of the GBA titles on the 3DS people wanted to make official releases. I also remember a thread endlessly revived by a certain person I won't tag about SNES titles not coming to the original 3DS. There was never any major complaining about that, people were more than happy to pay through the nose even if they knew the end product would be sub-par. Probably the same people now whine about the quality of NSO. For my part, I can say with a lot of confidence that N64 on NSO is well above the standard of the Wii and Wii U VC

Is there room for improvement in some titles? Sure. It's emulation, it'll never be perfect. But is it the worst emulation ever and not at all worth the effort? Definitely not.

I've been continuing with Monkey Ball the past few days, it's been a load of fun though I have reached the point where it's absurdly difficult. Currently on 7-9 (8 Bracelets) and struggling to progress.

Banana Mania is my 1st Monkey Ball game so is it normal for the base game to be ridiculously hard such that you can't beat the main game?

@Grumblevolcano I haven't gotten the game yet, but the answer is yes. That's a remake of the first 2 (3?) games in the series, which are absolutely known for their insanely brutal difficulty. There's some new stuff I heard to make it actually beatable for casual players (a new slowdown feature I think?), but yeah, that's how the game be.

Giancarlothomaz

why is everyone is stating Metroid Dread is best the Metroid game? that nuts, everyone know that no other Metroid game have managed to surpass Super Metroid, when a Metroid game surpass Super Metroid then we talk.

@skywake @JaxonH Yeah I'm generally quite tolerant of the gaming community at large, but I have noticed many people jumping on hate bandwagons as of late. Perhaps the most significant one for me has been the backlash to all things Pokemon in the past 2.5 years or so (many will accuse me of being a Gamefreak apologist, despite being very openly unfavourable towards Sun and Moon). I'm very happy for people to criticize things that they're not happy with, but when this extends to spread of misinformation, spouting of "objective truths" (which are really just opinions), and hate towards people for purchasing/enjoying a game, it just gets insufferable. I too am getting a bit fed up with comments sections and the likes of Reddit due to them being hotbeds of toxicity - at least on here we can have a nuanced conversation about these things, as well as see each other as people rather than Nintendo fanboys or anti-Nintendo trolls.

This extends outside of gaming as well. In online spaces, it seems no-one wants to reach any form of truth or understand anyone else's perspective - they just want to "win" at all costs even if it involves exaggeration, misinformation or running around in circles countering straw-man arguments.

Ok I know NL needs that sweet ad revenue but the front page articles are going off the deep end. I think I’ll hang out here for a bit.

Voice of Cards has some more game play. This time beyond the demo. I’m still on the fence as I don’t know if I will like the new player party. (Ash seems like a jerk. )

Just got to the end boss in Metroid. It's definitely my favorite 2D Metroid, and 2nd favorite Metroid overall (2nd only to Metroid Prime 2: Echoes).

@Grumblevolcano
Slowdown feature helps. Don't hesitate to use it as needed. Also unlocking jump helps.

The games are too hard without it in the latter portions, but with it, it becomes super satisfying difficulty.

@Buizel
Its a multifaceted issue, obviously. What makes it worse is, everyone is so convinced they're right nowadays and couldn't possibly be wrong or led astray by misinformation or agendas, they have absolutely zero tolerance for diverging opinions. When you convince yourself sunlight shines through your sphincter you start to believe anyone with a different opinion is blind, dumb and stupid. Because obviously if they had any sense they'd agree with everything Almighty Sun-Sphincter says. This results in anger and frustration toward everyone else for being so stupid as to not agree.

But it's also ppl who thrive off controversy, and jump at any opportunity to stoke the flames. I see it in how headlines and YT videos are titled- the fix is already in. There's no nuanced conversation and a willingness to discuss, learn and amend opinions as needed- there's only the narrative, and preaching that narrative. There's no, "inform you of the facts, let you decide" anymore. It's all rage bait.

Reddit is a lost cause. Article comments here and elsewhere are a lost cause. Social media is a lost cause. This forum is the only place I've ever found where most of that stuff is left at the door (for the most part). It's the one place I can have discussions with others who disagree and we don't end up hating each other for it afterward.

Ya it's definitely not a game that I think warrants prioritizing. But I'll definitely keep an eye on the reviews.

@HotGoomba
It's fine. I'm just saying that "justified" can look really different between different players.

I'm playing Ocarina on NSO and frankly haven't had any issues with it.

@BrazillianCara
Same thing. I think it's fine, but that's my experience with Ocarina so far. I haven't played any of the other games yet. I'm enjoying it. It hasn't been disappointing to me.

With all the care bear hugging going around, can someone please ask Jaxon to unblock me if he still has me blocked? Lol

@JaxonH @gcunit I haven’t tried any yet as it went live at 2am over here and I’m now at work. But there’s been reported videos of the delay on social media (so yeah take with a pinch of salt) but regards to the fog, it may not be important but I do think it hides the ugliness of that water texture

Wow, that's ugly. Switch is not just missing the atmospheric fog but also the water reflections.

The atmospheric fog is also gone in Mario Kart 64 and Star Fox 64 which makes stuff visible you aren't supposed to see.

I also hate the borders (not just in N64 but all NSO systems).

I thought official N64 emulation couldn't be worse than on Wii U with its lag and dark shade.

It seems Wii VC was the best emulation for N64 games so far and it got worse each generation.

Everything I've read suggests to me Wii U is still obviously worse. This seems to have specific and (partially subjective) control issues, input delay for 2 games that's only noticible to very specific hardcore players, and exactly two areas for OOT's visuals (literally no one has shown a 3rd example of graphical issues AFAIK). Whereas Wii U VC's issues are...the whole service.

They should still obviously fix them but it seems clear to me this on average is still better than what we had previously (I've also heard people suggest that outside of Mario 64 and OOT that the games play better than either VC versions)

@kkslider5552000
Basically how I feel.

They're not perfect. There's certainly a few issues here and there, but nothing major. Hopefully they'll fix the niggles of emulation, but overall they're pretty good. I'm not gonna get in a tizzy over a water reflection in one game or fog. Obviously it would be best if they patched it and I hope they do, but it's not really something I would have noticed it weren't for ppl plastering it all over the internet.

Well, they fixed input lag (like in F-ZERO X for Wii U) with updates, and the dark shade isn't very noticable since you don't have an ugly border like on the Switch.

But yeah, none of the N64 emulations were perfect. Wii was very close.
And on Wii U N64 games were updated to high res and 60Hz.

And on Switch? Halfbaked online, no option to deactivate the borders, and a weird emulator that is in some ways just as bad as the inofficial stuff on PC. There's nothing to defend here.
