So I was touring the world maker. Music for Desert, (Sky), and Snow overworld are from All Stars and the rest are from SMW. Anyone recognize the space overworld theme, is it a new composition?
I was just on the Eshop there and noticed something different. When you move on to a game tile, after a second it shows a little sideshow of screenshots. Is that new? I'm on there often and have never noticed it.
Please don't say it's been like that for over a year.
@Grumblevolcano So we now have had no less than four of Nintendo's major titles get announcements in three days... Maybe tomorrow will be NSO? Unless we miraculously see something for ARMS, Mario Tennis or Super Mario Party, I'm not sure what else the could pull from. Though with Splatoon 2 getting another splatfest anything is possible.
So after nearly 9 hours of trying to upload my course with Nintendo's restrictions of making you finish the course with no checkpoints and then over and over again from every checkpoint, I gave up.
I waited years and years for this update and I can honestly say it's not worth the stress. Making levels isn't fun with these restrictions. One of the worst gaming experiences of my life. I sat at my console since 11:30pm to now 8:30am. The kicker is, I don't think my course is that insanely hard. It's just without checkpoints, the difficulty ramps up by an insane amount because you keep having to start the entire level over and I make long courses.
I don't remember Mario Maker 1 having this restriction. This is so disappointing because I spend all day creating a Lemmy themed course and I think I did a good job but even when I made a cheat shortcut in my course, it's still undoable with the "no checkpoints rules". The game also doesn't seem to read the order of the checkpoints correctly so my course was likely bugged anyway, it was reading the 1st checkpoint as the 2nd and vice versa.
@Rexcalibr
It’s only fair you complete from every checkpoint. If you think it’s frustrating and you’re the one who created it, imagine how frustrating it would be for other people? The system is specifically designed to weed out courses like yours, because nobody wants to play a course that hard. That’s not fun. It might be fun for the person who created it to sit there and laugh at people who can’t beat it, but that’s not the point of uploading a course, the point is to provide fun for others. If you designed the course and even you can’t beat it, what the heck makes you think other people are going to be able to? Or even want to try?
The only nightmare would be if they didn’t force every course to be proven as beatable from every checkpoint. Nobody would want to play this game if people were uploading courses like that. Your post only serves as a reminder that the system is working as intended for the rest of us. Because when you upload of course it’s not for you, it’s for the rest of us. And the rest of us want nothing to do with a course that the creator can’t even beat, even with black doors only they know about, because it’s so hard.
@Rexcalibr Mario Maker 1 definitely had that restriction, once they added in checkpoints in a later update. Otherwise, it's entirely possible to build levels that either require repeatedly dying to beat, or can only be beaten if you don't touch the checkpoint, neither of which is okay.
I'm really looking forward to playing high quality worlds in MM2; I'm not a creator myself. Is there any website or community that provides good content? I'm not too keen on browsing the game's GUI - I run into too many bad levels.
@link3710 New Pokemon Sword/Shield Max Raid battles perhaps? In any case, I think Nintendo will try to use Animal Crossing sales and NSO subscriptions to satisfy investors given the upcoming lineup is rather limited (the list in the investor meetings doesn't include DLC).

It’s gonna take a while for people to put full worlds together, heck even a proper level can take days. Not that there weren’t a bunch of levels already made but they weren’t themed with worlds.
There are some sites, but the problem is there’s never a voting system where the better stuff rises to the top. And when there is good stuff not everybody plays it.
I’ve always felt I have pretty good levels myself, as I try to make them well thought out and designed with proper difficulty, never meant to be trolling. But I’ve only got about half a dozen or so. And they’re not themed with worlds. But they’re quality. Can always search my maker ID and check em out. 7R2-W4Q-VDG
I’ll be looking for the best worlds myself. If I find any good ones I’ll be sure to share in the Mario Maker 2 thread. Hopefully the best stuff will naturally rise to the top with worlds. Since it requires a TON of effort, even just for one stage. 8 full worlds? That’s like, half a year to a year’s worth of work.

@Grumblevolcano Oops I forgot to list off that we got new Max Raid battles already 5 days ago. So yeah, Pokemon also got news, but that's far more regular.
As for the investor's meeting, I'll almost guarantee they'll announce a new mobile game to distract them. It's the perfect way to keep them happy in a slow month and it's been a long time since the last one (MKT) was announced.
As for the worlds thing... yeah. I'm finally finishing my first stage, but I think it's gonna take me a week or so at least just to finish World 1. It's insane how much more drive I have to create stages now that I can build them into a world rather than them having to be standalone, since I don't like making ones that are Kaizo level or trolly, instead aiming for game accurate ones (more or less)
I might actually try my hand at creating levels again if I can link them into into a larger campaign. There were just so many aspects of SMM/SMM2 that seemed pointless given the one-off level design they enforced. Why place coins when they have no larger benefit to a broader campaign? Why place 1-ups? What's the point of secret areas unless they feature items useful in that single level (and, if they do and I'm hiding them, then it likely means the level is harder than a lot of people would like)?
I never thought Nintendo would go through with this change, but it's going to be such a dramatic improvement overall if properly implemented.
Currently Playing: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond (NS2); Corpse Factory (PC)
I played a world this morning that wasn't half-bad. Most of the worlds up now are Japanese, which makes sense because I assume they got this almost 24 hours before us (or not? was this simultaneous?). It was pretty good. Mostly 30s speed runs with some neat tricks. Semi-kaizo things in one of the levels, but nothing I couldn't beat. I chose it specifically because it was just one world and like 6 stages, but the possibilities with these worlds are insane. It's going to be really cool to see what people think up over the next few months and then years.
I will say that I tried making my own world for just a few minutes (I am more of player, NOT a good creator by any extent, just to say), and the options seemed a bit bare-bones. But again, 99% of my time in MM2 is playing, so I'm not overly familiar with the creator interface, so I was probably missing a lot of stuff that can be sub-selected.
I'll be grabbing it Friday for sure. Getting more amped for it each day. Wondering how it looks in handheld though. The review only showed 1 screen shot
The new mario maker update finally pushed me into making my first level. I was surprised how much fun it was. Initially I just finished the story mode and moved on. Glad this update brought me back!

@link3710 Perhaps it's the 2020 Zelda game. Nintendo said they were making the Zelda franchise become annual and BotW 2 seems very unlikely for 2020, so potentially this year's Zelda game ends up being mobile. Mario Kart Tour counted towards Nintendo's "Mario Kart every 2-3 years" pattern they've had since Super Circuit:
