I actually think Nintendo will be very interested in Streaming.

It partly removes the Technical disadvantage they always have by needing to put out portable hardware. Further, if the same third party games are everywhere and on everything, Hardware vendors will need a way to differentiate themselves I.e. a strong First Party offering, which Nintendo can offer.

I don’t see where anybody is upset. Lots of people here would probably buy one. The point is that it Resolution is really your top priority the Switch-Nintendo hardware in general-is not going to be the best way to play your games. It’s certainly more viable than waiting for an upgrade Nintendo aren’t obligated to offer and may never do.

@electrolite77 I'm referencing articles on here about possible pro models and the comment sections there which a lot of comments are (things like "I just bought a switch, they better not release a new model" or "the graphics are good enough we can wait three more years for a normal upgrade". Maybe it's a vocal minority but there does seem to be some people who don't like the idea of a upgraded console because it will make theirs inferior. I totally understand that Nintendo is not obligated to do certain things. At the same time I bought a xbox one x for power. It works for my sports needs and racing needs but like many here I love my Nintendo games. Anyways soon enough a year or two there will be a new switch which is hopefully backward comparable.

@Ralizah I love Nintendo games because I had Mario wallpaper growing up, won a Nintendo competition at the Toronto CNE and had Zelda bed sheets. I love Nintendo games because most of them are more about gameplay than story. But when the picture doesn't look clear on my 4k tv it takes me out of the game. When the frame rate skips in links awakening it's annoying. I understand you have the attitude that it's good enough but surely you must admit Zelda would be better if it didn't skip. The same goes for resolution. Although I have a top of the line Samsung uhd you can notice if the resolution is less than 1080p because the upscalling software can't handle the work. Anyways you can't compare ps4 games which can't run 1080p to the switches. Most of the time the ps4 are running more intensive games. If you want to do that you have to compare crash bandicoot and or Looka on both systems. On ps4 both run at 1080p but on switch both sub 1080p. Even when games do run the same it's something like how FIFA on switch runs at 1080p but it's a lot less detailed version of FIFA versus the ps4 version. So my switch is for Indies and first parties and I'm sad I can't manage to get out my wallet for many third party games.

@sixrings I think it's a fair comparison. Switch struggles to run some games that PS4 runs fine. PS4 struggles to run some games that PC runs fine. And so on. Unless you build yourself a beefy rig, you're always going to run into games that give your preferred hardware some trouble performance-wise. At least with the Switch, you can do something that you can't do on any other powerful system.

Also, aside from Korok Forest, BotW runs pretty well on Switch.

But yeah, you'll probably be happier just getting all of your third-party games on Xbone X. Like I said, there's no reason to get third party games on Switch if you have a more powerful platform to play them on and don't care about portability.

Currently Playing: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond (NS2); Corpse Factory (PC)

Switch physical sales in the UK have been the lowest in a year according to GFK.

Despite Nintendo alone publishing countless retail titles in September. That seems....weird.

Also apparently NBA2K20 did 67% of PS4, 33% on Xbox One....and the rest on Switch. Amazing.

Now Playing: Mario & Luigi Brothership, Sonic x Shadow Generations

Now Streaming: The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom

@Knuckles-Fajita Stock issues and other Switch games having less staying power than expected are probably the reasons. These past few months it has felt like we're back in the Wii U era where you actually have to preorder a game to guarantee a copy at a physical shop.

For all those talking about image quality on Switch, I'll flat out admit my television is still only 720p. So basically almost every game maxes it out, PS4 or Switch. Heck, many games look better in portable mode than on my TV.

@link3710 what size tv. I was considering buying 6 32 inch tv's for my basement so I could host switch lan parties.

@sixrings

Ah I see what you mean. Yeah I don’t get that, if you buy a Console or pretty much any Consumer Electronics device, it’s going to get superseded. That’s just the way it is.

I expected a ‘Pro’ sort of upgrade next year (though it seems the WSJ rumours were taken out of context) but with the other two launching next year that seems unlikely. 2021 maybe?

I do think there’s a real push from Nintendo towards digital. They’re deliberately keeping stock of their physical titles low-at least the niche stuff.

@sixrings it's a 32" I think? I mean, the games are totally playable, but considering it's from 2002 the image quality of the screen itself is definitely below that of the Switch. Anyways, for a lan party it should totally work.

I don't know. I can see why console gamers are upset by upgrades that happen only a year or two later. Consoles were always about the plug-and-play convenience; it was pretty much the only real, rational reason to play games over a PC.

Now that consoles are iterating almost as fast as PC components, it's kind of like...aside from exclusivity, why am I even doing ANY of my gaming on a console anymore? I'm no longer getting the "buy once every 5 or 6 years" cycle, so why not just game on my PC 100%? I can use controllers on my PC, easily hook it/wireless it to display on my main TV if I want to lie on the couch, etc.

I'll never leave Nintendo because of their exclusives. Like others have said, Nintendo actually focuses on gameplay more than cinematics, and that's why I'll stick with them. But I haven't bought anything for my PS/Xbox in quite some time because...why? If it's not exclusive, it'll be better on my PC (and almost nothing is exclusive on Xbox anymore because of Windows, so it's just a handful of PS stuff that I sometimes buy used at the end of the year).

Anyway, sorry. That got long. I'm just saying I can understand why some console gamers are upset that console upgrades are happening more and more quickly these days. Consoles are running out of ways to remain logical choices for gaming, one of the reasons why Switch was so brilliant with its dual nature.

Also, I don't give a flying possum's butt about resolution or any of that. I have a 4k TV, but you could probably fool me every time on whether something's running in 1080 or 4k. I'm living the family life these days, and my TV is so gunked up with fingerprints, my house is always crazy...the last thing I'm focused on when I actually get gaming time is what resolution the thing's displaying in. For those of you who have time or a more zen-like place to game and obsess over all the little details, I envy you. Truly. lol

@rallydefault hey man. I have a boy and another on the way. I'm ok with people being happy with their product but I don't understand why people are upset with pro models. You don't have to buy it if you're completely content with your og switch.

I'm really tempted to buy a Switch Lite and I think I'm going to. I've seen a good deal for the console bundled with The Witcher 3 for around £225. Well €259 as I'm in The Netherlands just now. I was going to buy The Witcher 3 for €50 anyway and my Joy-con are playing up but I don't really want to buy a new set. The right one has been giving me problems for ages, the little piece that locks it to the console broke off and it frequently disconnects while my left one may have just encountered its first case of drift. I noticed it last night when on the home menu. A recalibration fixed it though so I might be alright.... for now.

I'm thinking I might as well spend a bit extra, buy myself a Lite and keep my original Switch docked and for tabletop mode. The only thing putting me off is it's the torquoise Lite, I think I'd prefer the grey one. Well that and no HD Rumble. Grid Autosport wouldn't be the same without it.

Been playing What Remains of Edith Finch and I have to say, this game is really awesome. I wasn’t sure what to expect going in. I’ve heard a lot of criticisms of it just being a walking simulator, but I’ve always believed every person can enjoy every genre- it just takes finding and playing the right game. At first I was a little meh about it, but once I got past an hour in, going on two hours now, I was like woah. This game rocks. It’s way more interactive than you'd think. The mystery and intrigue of exploring this storied Finch family house with secret chambers and passageways, with rooms sealed off for family members that tragically died back in the 60s, or early 1900s, or even 10 years ago... I love how you’ll find a journal from the deceased when they were 10 years old right before the incident occurred and you suddenly are in their memory. One little girl that died years ago had a journal with a strange story, where she got up in the middle of the night hungry and started eating everything, even toothpaste and gerbil food, then climbed out the window and became a cat, so you start chasing this bird to eat, then you become an owl and swoop down and hunt rabbits to eat, then you become a shark and you flip flop down a hill until you land and water and subsequently hunt and eat seals, then you become a water snake and get on board a ship and start eating people, then you’re back in the little girl’s room slithering under her bed, at which point the girl wakes up and believes the monster she had become in her dream, is actually under her bed... it’s crazy! And it’s not “horror” or anything. It’s just really weird and intriguing stuff.

And then there are stories written about the deceased where you’re suddenly in the moment of the accident and you are actually doing what caused them to accidentally die, so you see it coming and you start thinking this is a bad idea... it’s really interesting how the game has you experience these things.

There’s this one girl in the Finch family who was a child star for a few years, but died at 16. And someone made a comic book about her death, And when you’re reading the comic, about halfway through, suddenly the page of the comic becomes 3D and you’re controlling the person walking down the stairs, and all of a sudden you are in the comic book experiencing the story for yourself.

I see now why this game got so many good reviews. Just by its nature I can understand how it’s not for everyone, but I think there’s a lot more to this game then just dismissing it as a “walking sim”, which imo does it a disservice and lumps it in with games that are far from its equal. I’m not sure if I’m now a fan of the genre. All I can tell you is I’m a fan of this. This game here. I like it.

@OorWullie
I really love the Switch Lite. It’s hard to express how much I love that system, but all I can say is that when the 3DS was having its heyday I loved that system to death. The portability offered me flexibility to play games anywhere and it had a really solid portable gaming library unlike anything I had ever experienced before at that time (and as an aside, I always loved the 3D effect). But the Switch Lite makes the 3DS feel like amateur hour, in almost every single respect (and I say that with all due respect to 3DS, which was fantastic for its time).

A lot of the advantages are the same as OG Switch, the difference is, the advantages are now applied to an actual handheld and can be directly compared with handhelds. More comfortable than OG Switch and definitely more comfy than 3DS. Full button set. D-pad. HD screen. Bigger screen. Sharper image on screen than Switch thanks to higher ppi. Snappy OS and UI. Sleep mode that lasts forever and doesn’t drain the battery from Streetpass. Way, way better game library. Enough power to actually run full 7th console games uncompromised, and even current gen console games with some dialing back, though even some of those can run uncompromised too. It’s way lighter than Switch and even New 3DS XL (9.9 oz vs 11.7 oz, I just weighed them now). It’s near flawless as a handheld. Throw a tempered glass screen protector on there with that oleophobic coating where your fingers just glide across the screen like an ice rink... ya. It’s a must own for any handheld gamer.

The biggest takeaways from Switch Lite, to me, are how much lighter it is than you expect, how much smaller and more pocket friendly it is than you expect, and how much more comfortable it is than you expect. With a glass screen protector it becomes quite a rugged, durable piece of kit. You could probably chuck that sucker across the room like a frisbee and it wouldn’t even phase it.

Switch Lite made me stop using my v2 Switch for anything other than docked play. Just be sure to make the Lite primary and docked Switch secondary, since it will always have a Wi-Fi connection. And FYI, I went with grey myself- it looks really clean and classy. But turquoise looks good too... so does yellow... they all look great.

@sixrings
That's fine, that's your opinion. (I'm not going to get into some kind of weird epeen competition with you over family size lol) I'm just saying I can understand why people are upset with so many console iterations these days, at least so many in such short spans of time. Game Boy had lots of iterations, but that was over the course of nearly fifteen years with lots of gaps, as an example.

The world is different now, though. Tech has always progressed quickly. Consoles used to be a refuge for people who wanted a box they could rely on to play games for many, many years. It's kind of a put-off in the last generation to buy a box and have a new iteration come out not even two years later. You don't NEED any of them... for now. But time will tell.

I also think you're incredibly short-sighted and a bit silly if you don't see what companies are doing. These iterations are obviously cash grabs to pump juice into aging console sales. It's just another marketing tactic at this point (again, until the new iterations become required to play certain games).

I will say this: IF Nintendo would come out with a Switch "pro" that could do things the original couldn't, I would stop supporting Nintendo. That to me would be the final signal that the company is going whole hog on the ridiculous practices plaguing most of the gaming world.

(On that last note, wasn't the 3DS XL actually required for a couple games?)

@rallydefault 3DS XL, no. New 3DS, yes (Xenoblade Chronicles 3D, SNES VC and a few 3rd games though if you add in "runs poorly on standard 3DS models" then there's more like Hyrule Warriors Legends and Pokemon).

@rallydefault part of my reasoning for wanting a larger spec console is so I can just go down to one console. I hate having so many things plugged into my tv. Sure I might be asking a bit to get ripped off but let's face it we live in a throw away culture. I get a new phone every two years and I'm ok with a new switch after 3. Or at least a switch pro. Sorry you read my comment like I was trying to say well I have a family to so do as I say. That's not at all what I meant. Just was trying to suggest that Nintendo is not serving one demographic and even if it were there are different needs or wants within that community.

So ive never played a metal slug game and im looking for some advice. I understand this is a very subjective question, but what's the best one to play? I don't really care about which is the best to start with, but I'm looking for most fun. Anyone got suggestions? Thanks in advance.
