Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive is an HD port, not a remake.

Switch Physical Collection - 1,560 games (as of April 14th, 2026)

@JaxonH To be honest the real issue that I (and lots others) hane with NSO is that cloud saves don't work for some games for a bizzare reason. In psn cloud saves work with online focused games. SNES is good but it seems that SEGA, Konami, Disney (and Capcom to an extend) and others prefer to sell their games themselves in all platforms and not putting them for "free" on NSO.

As for Tokyo Mirage Sessions it is 50 pounds on the UK store... I was a fool for expecting something cheaper.

@Ralizah
I’m not scoring points, I’m just looking at it in terms of value for what I get in exchange.

I get cloud saves in exchange for my money... that’s value to me. Yes it sucks that some games are missing and it’s something they should definitely address (you know as well as anyone I’ve been griping about that from day one, and still do to this day) but it doesn’t change the fact that I’m getting something in return for my money that’s valuable to me. When 300 out of 305 games I own are backed up automatically, that’s value to me. It’s not about scoring points or keeping a tally. It’s just about being a consumer, and cloud saves give me something in exchange for my money that I really, really value. Combined with these new SNES games, on top of everything else... I have come to the conclusion that I feel I am getting $20 worth of value and then some.

Even if the vouchers are expired, I got a lot of value from them. In fact, now that I think about it, I saved about $240 through the voucher program. So from my perspective it doesn’t really matter if they’re expired, Ive already squeezed the juice.

@belmont
I get the complaints. You don’t have to explain it to me. Most of those complaints are my exact same complaints as well. But at the end of the day, The two are not mutually exclusive. I can have complaints while simultaneously feeling the service has finally reached a point where I’m getting my moneys worth

Solid Direct. Divinity Original Sin II shadow dropping with cloud cross saves with Steam is an absolute megaton. Jedi Knight II was completely out of left field, and yes I'm getting it day one.

Xenoblade Definitive Edition was a hype announcement. That game absolutely deserves the HD treatment.

Sakurai legit telling us that if we want to play Banjo's original games, to play it on Xbox was funny as hell.

Sans in Smash actually happened lol. Memed it into existence, even though it's a mii costume.

Biggest announcement for me: Additional DLC fighters past the Fighters Pass!!! Sakurai will never rest though.

The best term would be remaster. "Remake" is the term you use for games like Links Awakening and Resident Evil 2 this year. Or for a more classic example, Pokemon HG/SS. They are games that borrow the ideas and designs from the original, but rebuild and rethink everything else from scratch for a modern audience.

A remaster is the term you use for content that has gone through an active process of cleaning up and improving visuals. Dark Souls Remastered, Links Awakening DX, and Wind Waker HD are good examples of this. For a non-gaming example, Batman: TAS and Batman Begins were recently remastered

An HD port only has it's visuals improve through the HD conversion process. There might be content added or gameplay improved, but visually, the game had very little changed.

@Magician I wouldn't be so sure:

This is no remaster.

A remake implies drastic changes. Resident Evil 2 earlier this year had a new camera perspective, new tyrant mechanics, new inventory items, etc. Final Fantasy VII next year has a new combat system and a visual overhaul. Those are proper remakes.

However, Xenoblade Chronicles is going from 240p to 720p, with a texture touch-up.

That's an HD port, not...a...remake.

The Direct was quite disappointing in my opinion.
Still No sign about The Sims 4 & Dance Dance Revolution for Nintendo Switch. 😑
Only several games such as Pokemon Sword / Shield, Animal Crossing New Horizons, Little Town Heroes were interesting for me.

Rhythm gonna hit your head.

I'll be honest, Nintendo didn't need to announce anything until next year and yet announced some of the craziest stuff between the new info of their upcoming games.

"I think this Nintendo direct will have Stunt Race FX as part of the SNES games, a sequel to Deadly Premonition, a remake of Xenoblade Chronicles, and Toby Fox will be involved with 2 separate first party Nintendo titles" - no one's prediction in a million years

You guys are desperately clinging to semantics... over what? Because someone called a game a remake? So what if you think it’s a remaster? Then call it a remaster. But I can’t help but get the feeling there’s an agenda behind doing this to knock the game down a peg. Because people seem to care way way, way too much about convincing people it’s the lowest rung on the ladder possible. A port? Gtfo. Overwatch is a port. This is something else.

The freaking game looks like it was designed ground up in the Xenoblade 2 engine, and could have been a sequel to Xenoblade 2 if we didn’t know any better. This was a Wii game, which was basically on par with a GameCube (which was same gen as a PS2). Go look at DMC and DMC2 to see what a remastered PS2 game looks like. If I can look at this PS2-grade game, and can’t tell that it’s not a brand new game, because it looks so close to Xenoblade Chronicles 2, with new models, new textures, new lighting, new content (Bionis left shoulder) I’m gonna call it a remake, and from the looks of it a lot of others are as well. Others are free to call it whatever they want.

PSA: The Switch version of Overwatch comes with a 3 month NSO membership!

Edit: And it's only $40!!!! I was expecting a full $60.

Personally disappointed by the direct. Honestly the only thing that was truly exciting was SNES games. Was already sold on Luigis Mansion, Pokémon, Animal Crossing etc. Ah well. I'm glad people are excited for some of the remakes. Downloading the Kirby game now to see how it is.

And let us not neglect the oft-requested Daemon X Machina post-changes demo!

And Assassins Creed 4 and Rogue. Again, not a huge AC fan, but I love the idea of having fully featured mainline entries on a hybrid portable gaming device. AC3 was cool, but ACIV Black Flag and Rogue? They’re hitting us with the classics now. So tired of my GPD Win 2 running like a toaster oven to play Assassins Creed IV. Heck even 2 felt like I was holding a furnace. I don’t know what it is about those games but they push that hardware super hard.

Seems Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE is apparently still the same version we got on Wii U, which is a shame because I was really hoping they would re-localize the parts that were more censored. But, given it is an Atlus exclusive game, and it’s a Persona-style game that I like, and the fact they are adding new content, I’m not too upset. I think the dark cloud covering that boss’s cleavage looks goofy still though.

@Magician Whatever you want to call it aside, the game clearly has brand new models, textures, lighting, and content. Bionis' shoulder is in, meaning we probably have new story to go with it, along with new items, and armor parts. There could be plenty more content as well, or not, we don't know at this point. But it's not just HD textures. In fact, we haven't seen any gameplay, but it's entirely possible (and likely as this appears to be running on Xenoblade Chronicles 2/X engine instead of the XC1 one) the camera and many other things might have differences.

@JaxonH

Because they imply very different things about a game's intrinsic value. A remake involves, to a significant degree, a reinterpretation of the original project with new technology. Notice how the Link's Awakening remake fills each scene up with loads more objects to make the world feel more alive? Stuff like that effectively gives a game the same place to me as a brand new game.

I don't have a ton of time to game, so I don't like to allocate money towards games from which mostly derive the same experience with what I already have. On the other hand, in the case of a remake, the reinterpretation of the game can offer a distinctly new feeling experience.

@JaxonH is there a full list of what was announced on the direct anywhere? Everything I am finding in the articles is all over the place. Unfortunately, I just need to know how many more games I need to add to my backlog...

@JaxonH Semantics? LOL. If you want to appear oafish by insisting that a remaster be labelled as a remake that's your perogative. I however would like save my follow forum members that embarrassment by making sure they use the proper nomenclature.
