When you make an announcement telling fans that they will revealing the next game they have been working on for the past year and a half, you are deliberately creating good reason to get people excited - even if some of it was way overblown.
But at the same time, this is a port. Surely it didn't take them this long to just port the game?

@JaxonH Wow, those 512GB cards cost 16% more than the console itself! For a U1! And not one from actual reliable brands...Integral and PNY SD cards? Ouch. No wonder the last one failed on you!
I actually caved when I realized the 400GB was a 1-day sale and ordered one yesterday. (5 days after I bought my 256..... just 5 days.... ) Slow, but I'll use up my 256 and maybe save the 400 for a rainy day like a gamecard stuffed with physical retail games and actually swap SDs . One for performance, one for retail. But $350+ for an off-brand? Eek!
It's not even a new Art of Balance? That's so weird...
I was about to ask if people thought we'd get a Kirby next year, then I remembered technically we are. Guess they're continuing their uninterrupted stream of releases, even if HAL isn't involved. I wonder if there'll be a Switch Kirby title as well, given their usual release rate though. Then again, they STILL haven't finished releasing known characters for Star Allies so...
I could see them releasing a port of Rainbow Curse in 2019, if the next new Kirby game wouldn't be ready. This would give them time to finish out the last Star Allies update and start work on a game for 2020, and still let them have a Switch Kirby release in 2019.
Currently Playing:
Switch - Blade Strangers
PS4 - Kingdom Hearts III, Tetris Effect (VR)
Wonder if Shin'en just needs the money for new projects. Fast RMX was an enhanced port of Fast Racing Neo as well. Is there something behind the scenes we don't know about? Eh.
Metroid, Xenoblade, EarthBound shill
I run a YouTube/Twitch channel for fun. Check me out if you want to!
Please let me know before you send me a FC request, thanks.
@JaxonH The U1 and U3 ratings are specifically for writes, yes, but it seems to be a bi-product that U3 cards also have slightly faster read speeds, hitting more often at the high end of their spec'd range than the U1 cards. Generally on Switch that shouldn't make a meaningful difference, but it does technically make a measurable difference. Hair splitting, of course, like .7 seconds faster loads of BOTW etc. Measurable but doesn't change the play in a meaningful way.
Yeah I'm glad I grabbed the sale price 400. If only I'd waited another week to buy, but oh well now I have a fast 256 and a 400.
Yeah, I don't know, PNY isn't the worst off-brand you can find, sometimes they're decent, but Samsung and WD/Sandisk, along with Lexar ar generally my picks for SD as they're always the OEM and PNY has a habit of rebadging stuff sometimes. But sometimes they have the good stuff as well. (OTOH I'm afraid of Samsungs pricing if PNY is $350..... It feels like hard drives in 1996. )
I think there'll be no Switch Kirby game for 2019 but rather the final Star Allies update coming in early 2019. If the update was coming this year, I think we would've seen it in the September Direct.
@Grumblevolcano Yeah, I'm inclined to agree. If they were pushing it out now, I'd feel like they'd have something to announce soon but as it is...
I'm just impatient because there's a chance that Adeleine, Daroach, Gooey, and more of the Dream Friends might actually play an important role in the next game now that they have HD models and full movesets. I mean, the only major characters in the series missing now (since Chuchu, Naga, and Pitch are in Clean) are Prince Fluff, Haltmann and Dark Matter/Zero. Plus, Star Allies really didn't sate me... Ah well, we're getting Yoshi soon enough, that'll do.
I had originally decided to skip it but then I watched a video review that completely sold me on the game. It's a dungeon crawler but with that Disgaea styled flair of adding a complex system or two. And the graphics and environments look way better in that video review than the footage I was seeing before launch.
So ya, that's cool.
Also, The World Ends With You preload is live. That's one of the all-time greats, and deserves a digital download for the all star library accessible 24/7 (as was Valkyria Chronicles 4, Dragonball Fighter Z, Monster Hunter Gen Ult, Xenoblade Torna, and South Park Stick of Truth, although that one was only available digitally).
Sooooooo many games being added to the library digitally, space is filling up so quickly. A 512gb should stem the bleeding through mid to late 2019, but after that... well, thankfully Nyko is releasing a plastic version of the kickstand with spare slot for extra micro sd in October. Two 512gb cards should do the trick.
Although, regardless of the rights and wrongs of online paywalls on consoles, $20/yr is an incredibly small price to pay to play games online. By not subbing, you're essentially forfeiting all your online modes in every single game you own, just to save $20 in an entire year's time, which is a horrible tradeoff. At the end of the day, I need my online. I would never dream of giving up Monster Hunter with my brother to save $20/yr. That's about 0.46% of the one single paycheck I just got today. To cover an entire year. At the end of the day, I'm a gamer and I just want to game. I paid the $60 to play MH World online when it released, and I'll pay this $20 now. Besides, cloud saves make it worthwhile anyways.
I imagine the hardcore communities won't be phased though. Like, no MH fan is gonna forfeit playing MH online over such a trivial sum, unless they're caught up in standing on principle (which hey, more power to em, but it won't get em very far- since all 3 consoles now do it that's the way it's gonna be forever, so like it or not, you can pay the $20 and party on, or give up playing console games online for the rest of your life).
The bigger games though, that have a much higher percentage of more casual gamers and minors who don't have income... those games are going to suffer. Those people will likely migrate to F2P like Paladins, Fortnite, Arena of Valor and Warframe.
A few months back this kickstand was brought up and I testified to my experience with it thus far. And at the time I said I thought it was a great product and hadn't had any issues with it whatsoever.
That's not exactly true anymore.
The issue I began to have is, overtime, after using it enough, the metal notch that clicks it shut began to wear the plastic notch on the system down, and it got to the point where, when I put a normal plastic kickstand back on, it barely clicked shut. Once I realized this I immediately threw the Nyko kickstand in a drawer, because I didn't want to do further damage to the point a normal kickstand will never close shut again.
But now with the plastic version coming out you can get the best of both worlds. The convenience of storing an extra SD without wearing the plastic notch down that keeps the stand clipped shut.
