@Late Your gushing over the game combined with the Metacritic score is what pushed me into buying it now instead of a few weeks down the line. Can't wait to play it tonight.

That's not true.

Square Exix said point blank that crossplay was necessary to come to Switch, so unless they stomp their foot down with Sony, it ain't happening.

Maybe it never got far enough to hit this snag with X1, maybe there's deemed no market, but I do know Sony isn't allowing crossplay, and they're certainly not going to start if it means everyone is forced to buy their version. Not unless SE has leverage of some kind.

Huh, when one considers how anti-crossplay Sony is these days, could they have influenced Monster Hunter World having cross-country but not cross-play? Food for thought.

Having a Battle Royale game and something like Overwatch sure would help give some meaning to the paid online service. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Splatoon 2 and Smash isn't enough.

It's a logical observation only the vehement Sony defenders feel the need to deny. You don't have to hate them for it. You don't even have to dislike them for it. But to completely refuse to acknowledge this is an issue, and it exists... is willful, let's just say that.

Notice how they talk about it and yet you don't see that game on any other platform? Strange, isn't it. They talk about it so that they don't get blamed. They talk about it so that people like you and me see it and say ohhhh, well Square isn't to blame because they're doing everything in their power. Clearly they want to bring the game (and I'm sure they legitimately do want to bring the game, but not for it to fail, and without crossplay its chances to succeed become exponentially more slim).

Look. There are plenty of policies Sony has in place that contribute to as many games coming to their platform as possible, staying the relevant version as long as possible, and preventing as many other competitive versions as possible. Come on now.

That doesn't mean the game will never release on another system. But it does mean their policies are doing everything in their power to prevent it from happening. Something some people like to pretend doesn't exist. Something some people feel the need to constantly defend and mock and pretend it's just some boogieman theory. No. It's cutthroat business. And anyone who doesn't understand cutthroat business needs a reality check.

@Grumblevolcano In order for third party developers to take the Switch seriously in terms of online play, Nintendo needs to overhaul it's entire service prior to introducing the paid service. But I don't see them doing that, therefore with the exception of the odd game like Payday 2 and FIFA, I don't think you will get those big games.

@FragRed Hence making the paid online service kind of pointless. Nintendo would probably be better off keeping online free but locking retro games behind a paid subscription.

Probably not. Not unless they do a complete 180 and announce system-level chat, which we all know will never happen. At least, for the games heavily reliant on verbal communication anyways (thinking Arena of Valor, that game seems like you'd want to communicate, it's actually a shock that one is coming tbh, probably a deal worked out with N). It probably also depends how willing people are to play without chat.

But tbh they've got none to blame but themselves. They choose to continue pushing this "we don't want to admit we were wrong and late to the party" attitude, and just keep doubling down on inadequacy. So screw em. Any game heavily reliant on voice chat, when it never comes... it's their own fault. Unfortunate it screws the gamers in the end, though.

There's another promising looking horror game called Those Who Remain announced a couple of days ago as coming to Switch too. Not sure if that's already been mentioned in the thread? Push Square reported the other day that's it's coming to PS4 as well. No mention of it on NL.

This thread has been been a better source of news and announcements than NL lately, if it's reported at all then it can be hours/days/weeks late.Other things like Legacy of Fear being down for sometime in 2018 in the indies to look forward to article when there is a big advertisement for that very game at the top of their website saying 'coming Q1'. The same article also said 'the potential arrival of Outlast 1&2' when it was confirmed as coming in Q1 ages ago. There's also plenty of missing reviews . I'm finding myself having to go to Nintendoworldreport, Miketendo or the YouTube channel Switchwatch for reviews of games I'm interested in.

@OorWullie Nintendo Life are dropping the ball more often than not that's for sure. Maybe it's some kind of Gamer Network code of practice because Eurogamer.net are really crap with news too.

I know you weren't. And I don't think Sony is a monster. They are just a company. They aggravate me sometimes with their policies but I don't really have any extreme views on them one way or the other. But it seems some people are on a crusade to prove their purity. And I'm just tired of dancing around it. Let's call it for what it is. Be it Sony, Nintendo or anyone else. Nobody is making them out to be a monster- but that perception is precisely what causes people to swing the pendulum in the other direction and defend them for everything. Because any small critique no matter how minute is perceived as demonizing them and therefore they must be defended at all cost.

Same thing goes on with Nintendo.

And it's not my word at all. In fact it's ALL his words, and Sony's policies. I'm just observing them.

I completely forgot Switch is getting a freaking MOBA. A huge one at that, at least in China.

@SLIGEACH_EIRE Been hoping for Dead Cells on Switch. One of the few Early Access games I've paid attention to. Definitely a game that lends itself much better to a handheld.
