@YummyHappyPills Where did they say it's only about western publishers?

And no. Let's say a game is 50GB, and for whatever reason they don't have the time or want to spend the resources to trim the game down. They need the 64GB cards to release the game on Switch. But if we assume a ridiculous price of $100 per 64GB card[1], that doesn't mean they're going to do it. So you're right in the sense that ''without [the 64GB card] it won't happen'', but that doesn't mean they will. It only makes it possible for them to release the game on Switch. So you need the 64GB card to create the possibility of releasing the game.

[1] Note that this isn't based on reality, just an exaggeration to get the point across.

And assuming they dont downgrade the assets at all...the game wont run. Thats just how it is. If they dont have the time or resources to downgrade, it wont come to the system, because if they just straight port a PS4 game, itll run like crap. There isnt enough RAM to stream assets like that and I doubt the GPU could handle all the effects and higher resolution textures.

A game ported from PS4 where its filesize is that big would most likely require a downgrade to even function.

That hypothetical about them just not bothering to change assets and bring a 60gb game doesnt work.

And especially ≠ exclusively, which means it's not just the U.S.-based publishers.

@Octane your point didnt go over my head.

You said if a game is 50gb and a developer doesnt want to cut the game down, they need a 64gb card.

Now on a hypothetical level this true.

On a realistic level, a game of that size with assets that bloat to that size, will not run on the system anyway. For instance DOOM is 50gb on PS4. Want to get that exact experience on Switch without adjusting anything? Not gonna happen. Assets have to be downgraded.

Therefore I ask you, what games would require 64gb or come in at 50gb on Switch? Even NBA isnt that big despite being relatively close to PS4 quality.

If a game was that big on Switch, lets say it could happen, it wouldnt be because of asset quality but rather due to sheer volume of content. Im talking 200 hours of VA size content, because I doubt for a very long time we will see visual assets of that kind of quality.

On that note why arent MS and PS using UHD Blurays now? You cant get a 4k asset game on a standard bluray

@YummyHappyPills My point wasn't to argue the specifics, it was, like you already said, a hypothetical example.

I don't know why a game would be 50GB on Switch, but we're talking about anything that's above 32GB, and that's not too unrealistic. Anyway, I think the most important part is the fact that 64GB cards could affect the pricing of the other cards, since a lot of publishers are already avoiding the 32GB cards to begin with.

Octane

Haruki_NLI

@Octane Perhaps.

At the same time looknat 2K. LA Noire isnt all on the disc on a PS4. Why? Cheap.

Honestly I see the big players not bothering with 32gb until its as cheap as 8GB.

If they can cut corners they will, even on cheap mediums.

@Spoony_Tech As awesome as that would be, it is a 2K published game... so expect half of the first game on cart and the rest as a massive download.

I'm just here to remind people Steamworld Heist is coming to Switch tomorrow, and that you should all buy it. It is an AWESOME strategy game that quite frankly doesn't waste your time the same way a lot of the genre does and is great from beginning to end. Literally one of the best games I played on 3DS. And you get all the DLC too!

Posted this in the Pokemon thread, but I'll post it here as well: did anyone see this: http://comicbook.com/gaming/2017/12/26/pokemon-switch-rumors/

If what this is saying is close to true, it indeed will include some major and certainly controversial changes. The Z move thing sounds silly, like GameFreak is finally cashing in on the waggle craze from 10 years ago lol. And I don't like the sound of simplifying the battle system, it sounds like it'll be like the battle system from Pokemon Go, which I dislike tremendously.

Sounds unlikely. Simplifying the minimalist battle system? Eh, no.

Since not much answer on the recommendations, kinda want to ask around here since it's more filled with people :[

I currently have a 32GB on my Switch right now, and might be looking to upgrade to 128GB.. but I'm also still on the fence about it. Or maybe 64GB will be enough? :/ I'm not sure and it's making me keep thinking about it

If my main use of Switch is physical only as much as I can (especially if it's between digital / physical purchase), how likely will I need a new one? Will Switch be full of digital only title for good stuff (Like how Vita is...) or should I be okay with 80% (probably) usage of my SD Card will be for patches / Japanese VA etc? I'm looking towards never updating this SD Card again, after all since moving between two are kinda hassle for me, imo.

Edit: There's also a nice around US$8 cashback for 128GB VGen SD Card right now over here, never used it so I'm wondering if any of you ever used VGen? Is it good for Switch?

@shadow-wolf
Take it with a mountain of salt. The origin of the rumor is Poke Jungle, which reports on everything it hears, both credible or not. They reported on the existence of an Alolan Arcanine that was a Water type, for example.

I have a chronic lack of time, for everything.

@Luna_110 Apparently the source that Poke Jungle refers to was the same one who correctly predicted the return of Giovanni and Team Rainbow Rocket in USUM so it's plausible.

@darkfenrir Don't have a Switch yet but it honestly depends on your gaming habits. Do you plan to buy a lot of indies and downloadable titles? If so, I'd go for the 128. If not, 64 should be fine. Although with so many publishers asking you to download portions of their games, I think I'd recommend you stick with your 32 for now, wait for a sale on 128, and then grab that.

shadow-wolf

darkfenrir

@shadow-wolf Ah gotcha! There's actually some 64GB being discounted, but still not as huge as I'm hoping for...

Guess I'll wait for 128 then, thank you ^^

For gaming habits I mostly stick to official big releases compared to indie/downloadable titles. (Usually stick with PC for indies since they tend to be reaaaaaally cheap since Indonesia's steam page has stuff cheaper than with eshop which is USD based)

Anti-Matter

I noticed Portal Knights on Switch somehow.... looks different with my PS4 version.
I noticed frame rate drop (of course) and i noticed there are some Different places that i have Never met from my PS4 version. Overall, i think the PS4 and Switch version have their own merit.
I hate to admit but Dang it !
I have to keep my PS4 as well as matter of fact, i had played the PS4 version for 6 months from June 2017 and i still like to continue my progress.
And for the Switch version.... if only Keen Games optimized some issues for Physical version (frame rate boost to at least 60 frames per second), i would be happy to play the Switch version.
Well, right now i consider the PS4 version is version A while Switch version is version B, same games but with their differences.
