Yeah, makes you wonder why **yawn** Nintendo didn't just **yawn** make a PS4/X1 clone - having yet another powerful, TV-tethered brick on the market would have really **yawn** captured peoples imaginations...
@rallydefault I hope by that time, Dauntless has taken the lion's share of their sales. Nothing would please me more.
@JaxonH "MH will come to Switch. The only question is if it'll be ground up exclusive or a dual release with 3DS (which will continue to hold the game back" Now if anything came out of Capcom's mouth to give me a genuine reason to believe this, fantastic. But nothing of the sort, probably because they're too busy with World and taking Sony's money to advertise the hell out of it.
@Spoony_Tech I don't want a download code. They're selling it as a Collection and individually. In the collection, Revelations is on a cartridge because it's smaller, a game most Nintendo fans have played and own physically. They've cheaped out, it would have been better if the second game was on cartridge but that would require a 32GB cartridge. Actually, I think in Europe the Collection is digital only.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Don't get in to PC gaming then - most 'physical' PC games these days are pretty much just Steam download codes disguised as a disc...
Also, just because you have to download something, it doesn't make it 'gimped' - not in any way, shape or form...digital games are more convenient and have (generally) faster load times - so, if anything, physical games are the releases that are actually 'gimped' (compromised) in some way...
(..don't get me wrong - as a bit of a collector, I prefer physical releases - but there's no real advantage to having a physical copy of a game)
@NaviAndMii I'll be frank, I've said many times that I'd love to have the Switch be more powerful, the reason being that I'd like to take their excuse of "Switch has weak hardware, not worth our time porting/downgrading" away.
Besides, you say boring box, but can you imagine Nintendo's games when they had a ton of power behind them? What those creative minds could do with that?
@Snaplocket
Um ya? The game is exclusive to PS4 in Japan, what other evidence is needed? No Xbox and no PC versions in Japan. PS4 only. Add to that the limited edition Rathalos PS4 Pro in Japan, and the fact they announced straight up, "The game will be exclusive to PS4 in Japan". All this confirming the rumor which predicted a deal had been made for the next game and exclusivity.

Will the JP version of Resident Evil Revelations Collection have English? I'll import if it all comes on cart and has English.
Right now I have the NA version preordered but I'd love to switch versions if it meant getting 2 separate carts (And how does that work, cause it's physically impossible to fit both games on a cart, seeing as it's a combined total of like 45gb or something)

@UmniKnight I never said 'boring box' (I have a PS4 and like it very much) ..but what would be the sense in Nintendo releasing an X1/PS4 clone this late in the day? ..the Switch is the perfect solution for them - it's different, it's exciting - and it's captured peoples imaginations in a way that a 'PC with controllers' (probably) wouldn't have done.
The WiiU proved that just relying on their first-party software isn't enough...many gamers already own an X1 or a PS4, but not many have one of each - so, if Nintendo came in with a late rival, it probably wouldn't be that attractive to many X1/PS4 owners (they already have an 'equivalent' console) ..the Switch isn't far off 'current gen' capability - they've crammed a lot of power in to a far smaller device - and it offers something very different and the highly regarded first-party content ..there are just so many more reasons to buy a Switch than I think there otherwise would have been
but there's no real advantage to having a physical copy of a game
There are several advantages:
Your game is yours forever, and you can do with it what you like; sells, swap, give it somebody else. Many games are not distributed anymore, because they lost their market value, or cannot be distributed due to licensing issues. I don't know a gamer who wouldn't love to go back and replay certain games. How are you going to do that in a "all digital age"? I can still play my old games without problems, and am not restricted to other means (like emulation).
Yeah, good point - physical games are great for the pre-owned market (hadn't considered that! ) ..but longer term, in this age of the 'Day 1 patch', many discs and games will be pretty much unplayable (in their original form) once the console they were released on gets to a point where it is no longer supported.
Take Skyrim (X360/PS3) as an example - if you have the disc, but no patch, all you have is a broken mess...to a lesser extent, the same can be said about Breath of the Wild - without a patch, you're forced to play with huge, jarring frame-rate drops.
My old N64 games work as well as they ever did - but future generations of 'retro' gamers are going to have huge problems with these last couple of generations of consoles due to the over-reliance on Day 1 patches and the like..
@NaviAndMii I'm not going to go back into this discussion, the pros and cons of the Switch are clear.
I'd just like to see what serious power can do with Nintendo's IP, and would want third-parties 1 less major excuse to not develop for it.
Yeah, I can't argue with that - they have (in my view) the best exclusives, so had Nintendo bought out a direct rival to the X1/PS4 (a comparable console) at the same time as those consoles released (competing head on) I almost certainly would've chosen that over the other two (and 1:1 ports of third-party games would, of course, be nice to see too) ..the only point I was trying to make was, after the WiiU flopped - and with two rival consoles well-and-truly established - I think that their only real choice was to go down the 'similar but different' path
MH will come to Switch. The only question is if it'll be ground up exclusive or a dual release with 3DS (which will continue to hold the game back)
1. MH already came to the Switch, lol.
2. World wasn't being worked on until after MH4/4U...around the Wii U era they were working on those games instead.

Keep it PG-13-ish.

Well then, tis my hope that they eventually steer in such a way that we'll see a strong enough Switch version that doesn't get the contempt of developers, subject to tests and skimped on.
