@UmniKnight I never said 'boring box' (I have a PS4 and like it very much) ..but what would be the sense in Nintendo releasing an X1/PS4 clone this late in the day? ..the Switch is the perfect solution for them - it's different, it's exciting - and it's captured peoples imaginations in a way that a 'PC with controllers' (probably) wouldn't have done.
The WiiU proved that just relying on their first-party software isn't enough...many gamers already own an X1 or a PS4, but not many have one of each - so, if Nintendo came in with a late rival, it probably wouldn't be that attractive to many X1/PS4 owners (they already have an 'equivalent' console) ..the Switch isn't far off 'current gen' capability - they've crammed a lot of power in to a far smaller device - and it offers something very different and the highly regarded first-party content ..there are just so many more reasons to buy a Switch than I think there otherwise would have been
but there's no real advantage to having a physical copy of a game
There are several advantages:
Your game is yours forever, and you can do with it what you like; sells, swap, give it somebody else. Many games are not distributed anymore, because they lost their market value, or cannot be distributed due to licensing issues. I don't know a gamer who wouldn't love to go back and replay certain games. How are you going to do that in a "all digital age"? I can still play my old games without problems, and am not restricted to other means (like emulation).
Yeah, good point - physical games are great for the pre-owned market (hadn't considered that! ) ..but longer term, in this age of the 'Day 1 patch', many discs and games will be pretty much unplayable (in their original form) once the console they were released on gets to a point where it is no longer supported.
Take Skyrim (X360/PS3) as an example - if you have the disc, but no patch, all you have is a broken mess...to a lesser extent, the same can be said about Breath of the Wild - without a patch, you're forced to play with huge, jarring frame-rate drops.
My old N64 games work as well as they ever did - but future generations of 'retro' gamers are going to have huge problems with these last couple of generations of consoles due to the over-reliance on Day 1 patches and the like..
@NaviAndMii I'm not going to go back into this discussion, the pros and cons of the Switch are clear.
I'd just like to see what serious power can do with Nintendo's IP, and would want third-parties 1 less major excuse to not develop for it.
Yeah, I can't argue with that - they have (in my view) the best exclusives, so had Nintendo bought out a direct rival to the X1/PS4 (a comparable console) at the same time as those consoles released (competing head on) I almost certainly would've chosen that over the other two (and 1:1 ports of third-party games would, of course, be nice to see too) ..the only point I was trying to make was, after the WiiU flopped - and with two rival consoles well-and-truly established - I think that their only real choice was to go down the 'similar but different' path
Psalms 22:16 (1,000 yrs before Christ)
They pierced My hands and feet
Isaiah 53:5 (700 yrs before Christ)
He was pierced for our transgressions
Zachariah 12:10 (500 yrs before Christ)
They will look on Me whom they pierced
MH will come to Switch. The only question is if it'll be ground up exclusive or a dual release with 3DS (which will continue to hold the game back)
1. MH already came to the Switch, lol.
2. World wasn't being worked on until after MH4/4U...around the Wii U era they were working on those games instead.

Well then, tis my hope that they eventually steer in such a way that we'll see a strong enough Switch version that doesn't get the contempt of developers, subject to tests and skimped on.
@Joeynator3000 I'll give you that, but the method of acquisition and understanding what you're doing is a little harder without an English patch. I mean my retailer would've imported this if it had an English option >.>
@MegaTen
I followed the source link from that article and snapped a shot of the Google translated Famitsu article cited... And it seems- and maybe I'm misinterpreting it here- but it seems only 2 versions will be released in Japan... the Collection which I linked before which has a download code for RE:R2 and the first game solo. Which matches up with the listings we see on Play Asia
Psalms 22:16 (1,000 yrs before Christ)
They pierced My hands and feet
Isaiah 53:5 (700 yrs before Christ)
He was pierced for our transgressions
Zachariah 12:10 (500 yrs before Christ)

@MegaTen Yeah, I totally agree - I'm not a fan of the Day 1 patch really...like you say, BotW is at least playable out of the box - and Nintendo's other games tend to release with a similar level of polish (compared to others in the industry) - but even they're not immune to needing a fix here and there after the game has already gone gold
@MegaTen
It seems that's what it is. Play Asia has a listing for the Collection just like we're getting and they have a 2nd listing for just the first game.

@MegaTen It's ironic when you consider it. Take Shadow of Mordor on PC for example: when that first came out, with all of it's DLC it probably would've costed around 80 euros. I've picked it up during the Steam Summer Sale for 4!. It's strange that waiting, rewards you with the same experience + all the DLC, for FAR less than others, yet it's unsustainable all things considered. How reverse is that?
@UmniKnight Menus are confusing at first, but it still isn't as hard as it looks. Besides, I learned some Japanese here and there because of this...I can recognize "Attack", "Defense", and all the elements and statuses that are in the game.

Gen VI Pokemon games both had rather major (and worse yet, easily triggered) issues (the Lumiose City save bug, and OR/AS crashing after you beat E4). Imagine if those issues had manifested pre-3DS? They'd be issuing a mass recall or setting up a replacement program. And for one of their best selling franchises... recalls aren't cheap.
Yeah, you're absolutely right - I mean, it's not like early (Nintendo published) Pokemon games were totally free of bugs and issues (eg. MissingNo in Gen 1) but I think it's fair to say that the issues were relatively few-and-far-between compared to todays standards ..for the longest time (decades really) Nintendo games would be pretty much perfect out of the box - I grew up knowing that Nintendo published games would have a high level of polish - so it must still be possible to achieve those high standards today
..it's just, like @MegaTen was saying, this 'money over quality' attitude that seems to have seeped in to gaming these days - Nintendo (rightly or wrongly) felt that they needed Breath of the Wild to come out in time for the Switch launch (which they needed to release before April to please investors) so compromised some of the quality out of the box - same with Pokemon, they feel that they need those games to release in time for Holiday season regardless of how 'polished' they are at launch ..and Nintendo aren't (by a long way) even the biggest culprits!
Things were so much better back in my day! (..gosh, I'm turning in to my Grandad!)
Those who have microSD cards for their Switch, what speed are the ones you're using? Trying to find out if the Sandisk Ultra ones are good enough and whether £45 for 128GB is a good deal.
