@Hitokage1
I meant that the Wii U was profitable. The profit may not have been enough to cover operating costs, but I think that as a product it did make money. R&D takes a huge chunk of dough.
Usually when calculating profit, accountants factor in operating costs. So if it didn't cover operating costs, it technically didn't make a profit.
@StuTwo "Ports of those games would definitely help the system." I believe the system needs some more new games right now, as it's already getting port galore as is.

Yup. The 3DS and Amiibo pretty much helped carry Nintendo through the Wii U debacle.
@UmniKnight Ports aren't inherently bad, it only becomes bad if it's the only thing though. Thankfully, that's not the case at the moment. With new games on the horizon plus even more games to be announced, ports are for the most part fine right now. But there are some things like Smash 4 and Pikmin 3 that shouldn't get ported over, since sequels are most definitely gonna come.
Metroid, Xenoblade, EarthBound shill
I run a YouTube/Twitch channel for fun. Check me out if you want to!
Please let me know before you send me a FC request, thanks.
@EvilLucario True, but that goes for Nintendo and third-parties alike, even if they're still on-edge. Nintendo is bringing out the big guns, but their IP is finite, I hope to see some third-party dedicated months, like technically August this year already is (Rabbids being that core game)
@UmniKnight I think 3rd party ports (even of 5-10 year old games) add to the diversity of games on the console and expand who it can appeal to.
I'd welcome them for that alone.
That they'd also bring big names and some marketing push independent of Nintendo while allowing shy publishers a cheap and easy way to test the waters and build a more positive relationship with Nintendo is just the cherry on top.
Looking at the third party games that we know have done well on Switch, there seems to be a recurring theme.
Super Bomberman R
Ultra Street Fighter II
Puyo Puyo Tetris
Minecraft
Disgaea 5 Complete
Sonic Mania
Namco Museum
All of those except for Minecraft and Disgaea have something in common: that retro arcadey feel. Those types of games seem to do really well on Switch. There's definitely a trend there. Even from indies stuff like NBA Playgrounds and Mighty Gunvolt Burst seem to do really well.
Looking at the upcoming third party lineup, the only game that really fits that theme would be Rocket League. That game is going to do very well on Switch. The next closest game is arguably DB Xenoverse 2, but that's also releasing in a crowded month.
The rest of them don't really fit that theme, so we'll see how well they do on Switch.
@IceClimbers I think it'd be best if we move away from "themes" since the Switch is drawing in many people who aren't necessarily people to buy into those in particular.
I think the upcoming third party games will do better than we think. Hell, FIFA 18 might be the best selling Switch game for September despite Pokken DX being positioned as the big game of the month.
As for the season pass for Mario + Rabbids, it has an identical structure to the Zelda season pass. Even the same $20 price. I'm totally okay with it if it extends the value of the game
@UmniKnight One Piece is a rather niche sell, though it should do decently. Xenoverse 2... I really hope it does well. I'm planning on buying it at least.
People will calm down eventually regarding the Mario + Rabbids season pass, the same thing happened with BotW. It's the timing that annoys Nintendo fans, to them any extra content should only be announced post-launch.
@Octane Yeah, that's what I said - "yet we have the Jackbox games that ignore the Joy-Con altogether and instead use Smart Devices etc as controllers" (#17675)
I dunno, I was just trying to think of an example of something that would probably be possible on the Switch hardware, but hasn't been done yet (keyboard and mouse) - and trying to think of another example that would suggest that Nintendo probably would be open to the idea (Jackbox - smart devices etc instead of Joy-Con) ..not the best example - don't think its very likely that we'll get any keyboard & mouse games any time soon - but it was the best I could muster!
Honestly I haven't seen much hype for Pokken, or at least in comparison to the other "big games". Mario + Rabbids, FE Warriors, and Xenoblade 2 appear to have more hype.
Both Pokken and Xenoverse 2 are Namco games, so they still get paid either way lol.
For me I'm getting Xenoverse 2 over Pokken. I'll probably still get Pokken eventually though.
