I played 3 player Fast RMX yesterday and Mario Kart 8 after that. I don't have MK8 myself since I have it on a Wii U so I didn't remember how slowpaced it is and since we had 3 players, it was also 30 fps. We seriously thought the game was lagging at first. The whole game was "in slow motion". And this was just Subsonic to 150cc. I wonder what it's like to start with fastest setting in Fast RMX and then play 50cc.
Anyone down for a Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze Switch port.
No. I didn't like it. Which is weird, since I absolutely loved dkc on SNES and even got all badges in the Wii version. It is something with the presentation that is off.
@antster1983 Nice, heard a lot of good things about it (and loved the classics like Monkey Island etc by him) but for some reason not picked it up yet. Will wait for this version then so I can take it on the go.
@KirbyTheVampire I'd say just go for it, have like 6 Wii U ports a year. The Wii U's problem wasn't the software itself but rather the order in which the software was released. If say the Wii U's launch was Splatoon and Super Mario Maker, we'd probably not even know what the Switch is at this point in time.
I'd 100% agree and maybe even go a step further by saying it wasn't necessarily even the order of software releases but the timing of the software releases more generally. Which sounds similar but is a little different.
If it had been possible to shift the Wii U launch and everything subsequently released on it forwards by 6-12 months then it might have been a different story.
The marketing would still have been a complete disaster and the first party line-up would still be lacking a few big genres but they'd have had enough time to put together a compelling package for customers and to build up a significant install base before the launch of the PS4 and XBox One.
Instead of it being immediately obvious that the Wii U was dead in the water and it was just a matter of time before the PS4 and XBox One both overtook Wii U lifetime sales there would have been a clear marketplace and an incentive for third parties to continue supporting for longer the vast 360/PS3 market alongside a viable Wii U marketplace.
Well for this year so far there's been:
January - Switch presentation, Fire Emblem Direct
February - Indies presentation
April - General Direct
May - ARMS Direct
June - Pokemon Direct, Nintendo Spotlight event
July - Splatoon 2 Direct
Also there was a Japan exclusive DQXI Direct in June. Judging by what we've had so far, I'd guess a general Direct will be the next one which would make sense given the Platinum teases and that we still don't know about the 3DS Kirby game and pretty much anything about the indie/3rd party front.
I'd love another Nindie Showcase - preferably with Bill Trinen as host again (#TrinenForTheWin-en! ) ..I've had my eye on a number of Indie titles for a while now, but information is still a little thin on the ground - an updated Showcase taking a deeper look at some of the big hitters would be most welcome!
EDIT: Just discovered that I was taking absolute nonsense (as usual!) - the Showcase was hosted by Damon Baker, both he and Trinen are great!
@NaviAndMii Nah, Trinnen does the big first party games. Whathisname that runs the Nindies department does the indies stuff. I'm SHOCKED that E3 had no indies segment in Treehouse and instead, Day 3 just rehashed the games from 1 & 2 in a terrible rerun. They had tons of excellent retail and indies games they could have shown, including Fifa and Skyrim, but instead, rehashed Mario and Zelda DLC and Metroid 2.
@NEStalgia E3 2014 had the perfect mix, you had your first party games like Smash, Splatoon and Yoshi's Woolly World but you also had indie games like Shovel Knight, Guacamelee and Affordable Space Adventures.
There's a lot of bases covered in this interview. HD Rumble, it sounds so gimmicky. Reminds me of Miyamoto and Star Fox Zero. Coming up with an idea nobody asked for.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE I like the HD rumble, but only when it's implemented into actual games. When they make games based around it like 1-2 Switch, it just gets ridiculous. Very few people care about playing games like that.
@NEStalgia I take it back! ..just rewatched the Nindie Showcase and, as it turns out, some Trinen-like called Damon Baker hosted it! :/ I could've sworn it was hosted by the Trinen! ..I'm going mad - m-m-m-MAD I tell ya! Haha! Oh my...
That Damon fella did a crackin' job in the presentation mind... #BakerForTheWin-en!
Good news. HD Rumble is none invasive and changes nothing if you dont care.
So unlike weird controls or controllers its an evolution not an innovation.
This. Also, HD Rumble is just as unnecessary as the trackpad on the DS4. News flash, they're both fun additions that are not forced upon the developer.
But I'm happy Super Mario Odyssey will have some nice HD Rumble. The HD Rumble in Splatoon 2 (at least in the Splatfest Premiere demo) is very subtle... but when you jump off from a high point into a pool of your own ink while in squid form, the "ploink" effect that comes from the HD Rumble is just amazing. Only if it was more... louder. It's just so quiet in Splatoon 2...
