@skywake Yup. I would say that the multiplayer Kirby game they announced was in development that'll release later this year (unless it gets pushed back) and potentially this year's Pokemon game are the last major 3DS titles from Nintendo.

You'll still see NoA publish some Japanese 3rd party titles going into next year however, as well as the continued support from Atlus with Etrian Mystery Dungeon 2, Radiant Historia, and SMT Deep Strange Journey.

I think you could easily see the entirety of next year be something like Monster Hunter XX, Yokai Watch Busters, Lady Layton, Etrian Mystery Dungeon 2, Radiant Historia, SMT Deep Strange Journey, Snack World, and Yokai Watch 3. That's still a solid lineup for 3DS even if it's only 3rd party titles.

I was debating on staying up to watch the Nintendo Direct, but it started at 11pm here (in the UK) and my alarm goes off at 5am so, I prioritised a good nights sleep over watching it live last night.

Quite glad I didn't stay up; outside of Payday 2 (that was the most bizarre and totally unexpected announcement I have seen on a Nintendo Direct!) and a handful of Japanese games that would often appear on the PS Vita, it was a bit on the tame side.

Good to know that both ARMS and Splatoon 2 have a firm release date, the latter of which comes out just as the kids break up for summer holidays in this country. It could work out quite nicely for Nintendo, but not so nicely for the parents!

I'm not so sure about ARMS; it is the kind of game you need to play to form an opinion. As for Splatoon 2, it's going to do really well, and it is highly likely to join both Mario Kart and Super Smash Bros. as the kind of game that shall probably be played for the entirety of the Nintendo Switch lifespan.

E3 will be here before we know it. Let's cheer (or grumble...) about their line-up of games there and then.

Very disappointed by the Direct. Where's the Virtual Console? Where are some good Wii U ports? Meh.

Im here in the UK and stayed up to watch Nintendo Direct and albeit short the outlook looks good was shame there was know VC news but that is probably because Nintendo would think fans know that is given.

As for the other bits they showed Minecraft so glad that is coming and so quick with a May date as others have said Payday 2 was surprise Arms i hope there is demo for because i cant quiet get my Arms round that one (sorry bad pun) Splattoon 2 ive never played so im looking forward to that so yeah all in all not bad roll on E3.

It'll be interesting to see what happens for sure. Whether that Kirby game is clearly built from existing games or not. Whether games like Lady Layton and Pokemon remain 3DS only or if they drift over to a dual 3DS/Switch release. Time will tell. I'm just not very convinced that they'll put much continued energy into the 3DS if the Switch continues to sell well

Calm down, aside from one or two bits of information this Direct only talked about stuff releasing before August. Typically most games launch between October and December. So there's plenty of time for more content.

As for the Virtual Console? Well sure, I expected them to say something. I think a lot of people did. But the VC is just as likely to launch with zero fanfare at all. My gut feeling is that the reason we're waiting for the VC is because they want to get their account systems all rock solid first. As it stands some regions can't connect their Nintendo account to their Wii U/3DS accounts. If they're going to do some kind of discount for people who already owned VC releases on previous platforms they'll need to get that sorted out first.

I thought the direct was good as a owner of a Switch & 3DS, plenty of content for both machines and release dates for ARMS & Splatoon 2. I'm already sold on Splatoon after the global test fire and Arms looks like it could be a hit.

Payday 2 was a surprise announcement, but overall It's looking like a solid first year of games for the Switch and that's before E3 and I can't belive there won't be a surprise or two.

I don't think Virtual console will make it to Switch, you've got Hamster churning out Neo Geo games think I saw Garou and Blazing Star in the sizzle reel and that's before the Arcade Archive titles they have not brought accross Gradius, Bubble Bobble etc and Namco museum.

Roll on E3 and more announcements.

I was so disappointed with the Direct. They told us it was going to be about ARMS and Splatoon 2 and maybe some other 3DS games.

So, I watch the thing, and it's about god-dang ARMS and Splatoon 2 and some other 3DS games. No online, no Virtual Console, no nothin.

Such a stupid Direct.

Overall i thought the Direct was pretty good. I expected primarily Arms and Splatoon 2 (it kinda was) but the high points were all the other news.

I can't however remember the Neo Geo announcements, was it only in the Japan one? Nonetheless the Switch is becoming a great portable Neo Geo and isn't costing you several £100s per game. Blazing Star and Last Resort FTW!!

Now how about M2 porting Battle Garregga over like they did on PS4.

The reason the switch is so expensive for Australians: GST. Retailers pay 10% on top of the unit price when purchasing from Nintendo, and the customer pays 10% when purchasing from the retailer.

@rallydefault Well, they didn't say: "This direct will focus on Nintendo Switch's online services and more...". All they said is about Switch and 3DS games.

If you have expected more than that, then I feel sorry for you.

@Peek-a-boo If he is, then my bad. I still can't tell if the person is being sarcastic or not on the Internet.

With that said, this Nintendo Direct felt pretty decent. So many games, especially for 3DS that backed up Nintendo's claim that 3DS is still alive and kicking. On Switch's side, there are a lot of games shown but most of them were announce back in January Switch presentation. Not surprised about Splatoon 2 release date, but ARMS release date, for me, should have been in late May, though there are still many things we don't know about ARMS.

The direct's surprise was Payday 2, which is something that I didn't expect. Let's hope that the game's devs make a good Switch port.

All in all, I can't wait for this year's E3. It's going to be a blast!

Not just that but as far as I'm aware the US RRP doesn't include sales tax, the Australian RRP does. So in Australia the Switch is $469AU RRP including $42.60 GST. In an average US state the Switch is $299US RRP plus an additional $21US sales tax or $320US. It's still cheaper there based on the exchange rate ($320US -> $422AU) but it does explain some of the gap.

The rest of the explanation is simple logistics. The US has a larger population so Nintendo can export larger volumes which means lower prices. They also have something like 10x the population density so there's also less shipping within the country.

I don't think we'll be getting any anything virtual console related until they officially start charging for online and getting all their other services launched. They're probably somehow connected it to that 1 snes game per month thing.

People clearly forgot about this: Untitled

Isn't that checkerboard background the default in photoshop itsself? haha

Which they also used for Mario 3D World:

@Operative2-0 I would of sworn that the 3DS cover art was just a placeholder image. I remember seeing some different cover art featuring more toads and some of the bosses. 3D world box art is still strange though. I guess they opted for the white checkered background rather than the blue sky in order for the title and mario with the gang to stand out.
