@Azooooz
Do you really want to be teasing that? Nearly everyone would expect a Direct from a tease like that. Places I've been have reacted like that before.
Of course, MK8 Deluxe's release is later this month as well... That's interesting, right?

@DarkRula Yeah, that said Nintendo could do with a Direct this month but maybe pre-E3 is pretty bare of which then it would make sense to stay quiet so hype is still maximized at E3.

I could definitely see an ARMS-focused Direct later in the month to give more details on it. Then again, that could also be done through just a trailer drop.

I was just looking at the best selling PS4 exclusive games. From 58 exclusive games only 9 have managed to sell over 1 million copies.Uncharted 4 is out on its own at 8.7m but then after that there's a huge drop.Horizon ZD is 2nd with 2.6m which is pretty good I suppose since it's just not long released but then most of the other games are older games so their totals aren't going to change too much.4 of those 9 just made it on to the list with 1.1m or less.Only 3 exclusives are in the top 30 highest selling PS4 games with UC4 the only top 10 entry. For a console with around a 55m userbase, those numbers must be considered poor surely?Even the biggest blockbuster Uncharted 4 only has a 16% attach rate. The Wii U with it's 14 million userbase has '14' million+ sellers.Granted there was not much else to buy but even if the Wii U had multiple 3rd party releases, those numbers would be much the same,if not higher due to an even bigger userbase that would be there if it had been better supported.I'd say all of Nintendo's 1st party Switch releases this year alone will sell over 1 million.XC 2 and 1-2 Switch possibly not but then there's still more to be revealed too.

I suppose the point I'm trying to make is this shows the fanbase of Nintendo games is still a lot bigger than the fanbase of Sony games, especially when taking into account 3DS game sales.I haven't looked at PS3's biggest selling exclusives though but I'd guess that compared to the Wii's,it would be much the same comparatively. Or maybe not and the point I'm trying to make falls apart.

@OorWullie It depends on what you consider poor sales. Kirby games generally sell around 1 to 2 million copies (or even less), but that doesn't stop Nintendo from churning them out every other year or so. A game doesn't need to sell 10+ million to be successful. I think the big difference between the consoles in that on the Wii U there was little to choose from; Few quality titles were worth purchasing over Nintendo's own titles. On the PS4 there's a lot more competition, and it sometimes feels we're getting a new big game every other week. Sales are going to be a lot more spread out. Some people buy a PS4 exclusively to play FIFA for example, some only play shooters, others like the system for Sony's own IPs. I think that Sony in a way doesn't mind this. Let the third parties do the heavy lifting, so they can focus on more unique experiences instead. They always knew that games like The Last Guardian, Gravity Rush or Until Dawn weren't going to be the top sellers of the system. A game only needs to be profitable, and even when the game isn't profitable, it can still contribute to the variety in the game library.

@SLIGEACH_EIRE Not surprising, Square's relationship with Microsoft has been pretty non-existent outside of a few franchises like Tomb Raider. Also the Scalebound situation will no doubt have hurt relationships between Microsoft and Japanese developers in general.

@BLP_Software Yikes! I wouldn't call 140,000 decent for launch. Even the Wii U managed to sell more than a third of that, and that system is pretty much dead.

Where do these numbers come from by the way? 800,000 for the PS4 in the UK alone in a single month seems a lot... Like way too much. Makes me question the validity of the entire list.

Haruki_NLI

@Octane Turns out its software, not hardware, and its from MCV UK quoting GFK-Chart Track.

But still....140k retail copies of software? That's not...amazing?

@BLP_Software That makes more sense! Well, the PS4 has had an amazing Q1 so far, so that explains that.

140,000 for the Switch... Could be worse? I mean, assuming that it's basically a Zelda box at the moment. I don't think 1-2-Switch and Just Dance are going to break any records, so most of those sales are probably Zelda. If half of those software sales are Zelda, then I'd say it's pretty good start for Zelda.

Don't forget that many places have actually sold out of hardware and software (especially Zelda - how on earth that happened Nintendo only knows; stupid), so if there were more available, there probably would have been more sales of both.

Haruki_NLI

@Octane Both versions of Zelda resulted in a combined #3

It's Bloomberg so when they talk you kind of have to sit up and listen.

If you shop online, it was a case of having to be there at the right time to click the 'buy' button for a product that was out of stock from time to time.

If you used your legs to venture out into the world, however, you could see plenty of Nintendo Switch boxes in places like HMV, Smyths Toys, Toys R Us and even in little supermarkets!

People just wasn't going out of their own house to buy/find one, when I could see plenty to go around.

Saying that, I had a hard time finding a copy of Breath of the Wild on the Wii U though...

@Peek-a-boo Well about the Wii U version was kind of expected, given what Nintendo did regarding Twilight Princess on GC you'd kind of expect the Wii U version of BotW to be hard to find not too far after launch.

Probably a Final Fantasy Legends port...

Ryu_Niiyama

I could see them doing a world of final fantasy quick and dirty port from the vita version (because it would be easier not because they couldn't make parity with the ps4 version)

@Ryu_Niiyama Both versions run in the same engine, OROCHI3, and it's optimised for ARM and x86. Porting over the PS4 version isn't that difficult in that case.
