The Legend of Zelda U is for 2015 in which Link explores a huge, integrated, futuristic world
You know, this very first comment isn't off by that much (except for two years). Still, it's absurd how long we've waited for this game; what's even more absurd is that, by all accounts, it'll live up to the enormous expectations. Everything I've read and seen online – and I've seen way too much, I'm kicking myself for spoiling it – points the BotW being a paragon of Zelda games.
Who else is picking this sucker up at midnight? I'll be getting it for Wii U from a 24/7 electronics store and play through the night.
Currently on the plate:
Mount and Blade: Warband – Napoleonic Wars
Chivalry
Super Mario 3D World – Finishing the last few levels.
Mario Kart 8
I dunno if I believe this game will be more packed than the Witcher. If it manages to surpass that I'll be extremely impressed by Nintendo, new to open world type of games. I can only hope so, and that it's not just the typical Zelda release hype clouding their judgment

I still don't know for sure if my Best Buy will do a midnight release or not. When I ask them, they say "check our website," and their website is vague. Hopefully they are.
And that quote you used made me think I had accidentally clicked to the 1st page again.
Psalms 22:16 (1,000 yrs before Christ)
They pierced My hands and feet
Isaiah 53:5 (700 yrs before Christ)
He was pierced for our transgressions
Zachariah 12:10 (500 yrs before Christ)
They will look on Me whom they pierced

Hard to compare them because they do different things. It seems incredibly unlikely Zelda is gonna have anywhere near the amount of stories and character development of the Witcher 3. That game just has like 100 novels tucked inside it. But Zelda has temples, puzzles and more emergent gameplay based on physics. Witcher 3 doesn't have any of that. But then Witcher 3 has a great minigame in Gwent. Remains to be seen if Zelda will have anything of that scale in its minigames.
When you add all that stuff up, there's not much meaningful way of comparing them beyond just how long you can play each game. My 2 recent biggest games were Witcher 3 and Xenoblade X, both of which I played for about 100 hours. I hope Zelda is about that size. It seems likely with 100 shrines and how big the world is.
Actually thinking about it after looking at the pic, the nes Zeldas didn't have the Master Sword and they at the far end of the timeline and they have been avoiding the question of it the Master Sword breaks in the game so is this the Master Sword is destroyed storyline?
@jump That's an interesting theory! The Master Sword has been so iconic to the series (and to videogames in general) that it would be extremely impactful to "kill" it off. Plus they could just bring it back in the next game, so no harm done. That's pretty genius.
@EOTW They kind of did that already in Wind Waker. Twice, in fact. First when it's power is drained, then at the end it's left at the bottom of the sea and never appears again in the following sequels.
Minish Cap also did the "sacred sword is broken, fix it" plot.
I'm talking about breaking in the Master Sword in half and Ganon devouring it type destroyed not just abandoned or gets fixed in tha game. It would tie up why Link didn't need or have it in the original game to defeat Ganon, I actually hope this game is set in that timeline as the whole thing is confusing.
Okay so I need advice. I've never been a zelda guy but I'm really psyched about BotW. I think the open world nature and just the general look of the game has got me excited. I've only played maybe 3 or 4 zelda games in the past and never completed any of them. I'm not into retro games and I've traded all my consoles for my Switch fund (currently have £193 left having already spent £520). What's the best way to learn all the zelda lore so that I can get the full enjoyment come Friday?

If you can't play any of the games (I would recommend Hyrule Warriors as it doesn't play like Zelda but it has all the lore in it or Nes Remix for the NES game highlights) and you didn't really enjoy them then probably don't sell all of your consoles and games for a Zelda game.
I mean you could get the Zelda mangas, Hyrule Historia or watch the Zelda game highlights on YouTube but if you're not a Zelda fan you wont get much out of it.
