Yep. Play BotW, then if you like it enough, look into the lore afterwards, or better still, play the other games. Then play BotW again in a new light.
The thing I've found with the Zelda games is that the lore is probably over-emphasised by the hardcore fans. I've only completed two Zeldas (Ocarina and Wind Waker) so far, but found that they were both very light on story. There's just a few cutscenes spread thinly throughout the whole games, and I think I'd have to play each game multiple times to remember any of the details, because, at least in the two Zeldas I've played, the lore is not a big part of the gameplay. It's more extensive than Mario's 'Rescue Peach from Bowser because Peach/Bowser, but not by that much IMO.
You guys had me at blood and semen.
What better way to celebrate than firing something out of the pipe?
@BigBadJohn Pretty much. It's a double-edged sword really.
Fans of the series will potentially get the most out of BotW, because all the little touches and references that will be in the game won't mean much, or will just go unnoticed, by someone who's not played any of the series. But, fans also probably have the most potential for disappointment if BotW doesn't do things the same way as previous Zelda games etc. whereas, you won't have any particular expectations for the game and so don't face that risk.
If you didn't play any Zelda you don't lose anything story wise, since every chapter can be played stand alone. But i played all major Zeldas and i have to admit that i like a lot all the "links" between them and the whole timeline aspect. Someday i'll get my Hyrule Hystoria (don't have it yet unfortunately) because i want to learn every single detail in it. And most of all i can't wait to discover the timeline placement for BOTW.
By the way another perfect score: 40/40 by Famitsu! Hype!
@FGPackers Hyrule Historia is 99% repeat info. Don't expect to learn anything new from it, apart from Nintendo's half-arsed attempt to explain the timeline.

It actually made the time line worse with the whole you actually died in the game so here's another timeline.

BOTW wont be in Hyrule Hystoria, it only goes upto to Skyward Sword so ALBW and Tri Force Heroes also aren't in it.

@jump Thats irrelevant. Im just stating the obvious fact on the table that it got a perfect score. I dont care about anything they gave it to prior as a game or hardware has to stand up as its own thing.
And as its own isolated thing, in its context, a perfect score is a perfect score.
Now Playing: Mario & Luigi Brothership, Sonic x Shadow Generations

Alright, expectations are really high now. I've had mixed opinions based on the trailers, some looked good, but I wasn't sure of other elements, but every reviewer seems to agree that it's a 10/10. I hope that means the trailers barely showed anything of the game.

You should give in to the spoilers and check it out for yourself.
