@JaxonH But that was the point of the Wii U. The GamePad was supposed to provide a "more unique" experience by default. The GamePad alone should provide an experience that's different from the NX. And I doubt Star Fox scared them off or something. That game released two months ago and saying "welp, let's reduce GP functionality in BoTW" because of that is rather short-sighted and ignorant (for the lack of a better term).
I don't think they removed gyro controls. Morgan Sleeper, one of Nintendo Life's writers mentioned in his hands-on impressions that he used the gyroscope controls in combo with the right stick to aim ala Splatoon: https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2016/06/hands_on_wide-open_w... I even spotted Treehouse members moving the GamePad around to aim. Removing a feature like that because of the Pro Controller is downright stupid lol.
@Haru17 I don't think we know that yet.

Ya know, now that I think about it, I also saw that Treehouse member use the gyro. It was in the dungeon, swinging a giant hammer.

I guess the pro controller will just have different options then? Use analog or have the choice with the gamepad?

That guves me hope there can be a persistent map on the gamepad.

So, in a 30 Minute Treehouse segment where they're talking with Miyamoto about how this game is inspired by the NES Zelda, you can clearly see a cave opening in the shape of a skull around the 12 minute mark. Possible dungeon entrance?

There's a Bokoblin encampment in front of the cave, but they decide to take them out from afar using fire, then turn the opposite direction, never approaching (or mentioning) the cave.

@RR529 There were two I believe, one in an open field, and another one near a windy area. The latter one held the Fire Rod in the demo; and the wind was pretty useful for spreading fire. I don't believe there are dungeons located on the Great Plateau.

Completely agree. Having Mira's map on the Gamepad made XCX far more inmersive, it was nice not having to open the menu every time I wanted to fast travel.
It would be a damn shame they removed the feature on Zelda just because the NX.

I have a chronic lack of time, for everything.

@Tsurii & @Octane, ah okay then.

I'm still working through the Treehouse stuff, and that just happened to be the first video I watched that showed the cave (I probably should have waited to say anything until I'd watched them all, lol). Also, yeah, it was the one in the windy area.

I don't see how that could be the case: maps are just another layer of abstraction (the opposite of "immersion") between the player and the game world.

Honestly, if I had a Wii U I wouldn't want to have the map on the bottom screen. That just seems like needless spoilers for the world, which are antithetical to the Breath's very design. I'm squinting whenever I reach a map room my first playthrough (the only playthrough that ever matters until the inevitable remaster). A map might be a nice quality of life thing for subsequent playthroughs... but I don't care. I sure as hell don't play Zelda for speedruns or "replayability," so I don't need such a feature.

Apparently Xenoblade X was 400 sq km. So this is nearly as big as that. That's a bit insane. Lets hope they manage to make it interesting for that size.

Guys... are we honestly?

No, my point is that comparing literal game sizes is pointless. There's a reason 'quality over quantity' is considered a wise saying. Do you even Triforce?

I will be taking my sweet time aimlessly wandering this land, looking for all the ducks...

@Haru17 Not really a twitch follower/watcher but also not surprised. Therefore on this day, no ducks were given by me,because I must have all the ducks. I may change my name Quackers McDuck if I'm bored enough.

The ducks are the most exciting thing in the entire map.

That only even vaguely looks like it means something because they cropped the border of Hyrule Field to exactly match.

Other than that, only the castle and a bit of what looks like the town match a bit.

Though I guess they sized and positioned the map to show exactly that.

Poor Lonlon ranch.

Anyway, if the plateau is meant to be "classic Hyrule", I'd be perfectly fine with that, it would be a fun idea. It doesn't need to match exactly with a previous map.
