@Morpheel: I never thought of that. I always was in the opinion that the vertical GamePad with two screens on it, is the perfect solution for DS games.
@LegendOfPokemon Played PH recently. The puzzles were the highlight. The game used all the functions of the DS to create innovative puzzles. The enemies who you could only damage by screaming at in the microphone for example, were great fun, especially at 2 in the morning while the misses was sleeping and I was playing with headphones in....
Plus, there were a lot of funny characters like Linebeck and Jolene. I could have probably named a lot more positives, too, if I had played it more recently. It's a shame the graphics were ugly.
@rishisquid: I know, right? I mostly see criticisms for its touch-only controls and the temple of the ocean king.
Ah, Phantom Hourglass. That game was truly amazing. I didn't like the Temple of the Ocean King sections, though... felt too repetitive.
But that's the only beef I have with the game. Everything else is superb. The puzzles, boss fights (I would boot up my DS just to fight the final boss again and again and again , and even the controls were all top-notch. It's probably my second most favorite DS game, second to... er... New Super Mario Bros. raises flame shield @LegendOfPokemon: Yeah, I remember watching my brother playing the game and encountering that puzzle for the first time. We did all we can to try and solve the puzzle (I believe we had to transfer something from the map on the top screen to the bottom), but all to no avail. Then my brother was like "We'll come back to it later." and closed the DS () but after 3 minutes we came back to it to see what we had missed, and we were greeted with the message that we had solved the puzzle. Then it hit us so hard.... I'll never forget that experience. Yup, PH is a masterpiece.
I absolutely loved both the DS games and was always surprised when I found that the internet at large didn't have many kind things to say about them. Spirit Tracks especially, I loved the darkness of it, as well as the catchy music. I always said it was like the Majora's Mask to PH's Ocarina of Time.
As for the screaming in the microphone, I enjoyed it, but I enjoyed it more when I found out just blowing into it had the same effect as screaming.
@Ralizah: Lol, almost word for word. Only in video games can my favorite features of a game can be somebody else's pet peeves.
Excuse me while I take a spatula and scoop out the rest of this jar of Zelda U discussion topics: are there any new features you'd personally like to see in Zelda U that you'd fear wouldn't be well received by a majority of the community? Think of this as a cross between the Zelda U thread and the "Unpopular Gaming Opinions Thread."
Off the top of my head, I wouldn't mind a return to the unforgiving nature of the first two games, where every time you die, you are sent back to a single starting point on the map. There would be plenty of warp points, so dying in such a huge world wouldn't mean a 20 minute horse-ride all of the time, but you would still have to make it past the overworld and all of the enemies leading up to the temple, and start the temple at the entrance, just like you had to on the NES. I don't know about anyone else, but i missed the punishing nature of (S)NES games that really made you feel good when you finally got something when the stakes were high. That, and the game could stop handing rupees out on a silver platter, and include only one bottle in the game (Ocarina of Time is so easy when you can just have 4 fairies with you all of the time).
And another idea that may be a little more popular is if there was plenty of ocean to explore, just like Wind Waker. It would be cool if you could go a little off the map that we've seen, and discover new islands.

I can see complaints about the bullet time from Zelda purists who like the slower paced battles coming.

Every 3D Zelda has had basically the same combat system. I think it's time for something new, but I can already hear the complaints.

To be fair. The last 3D-Zelda tried something new with the combat system. However, while I am loving the real motion controls there, there were a lot of complaints. So I am certain Nintendo will do something new but maybe not so drastically new.
@Nicolai:
I don't know what people will or won't react well to, but I will say:
1) I'd like the weapon renting system and the non-linear dungeon system to return in Zelda U.
2) I'd like it to have an emphasis on side-quests and exploration, like an open-world Majora's Mask.
3) I want to be able to change Link's gender and customize his or her appearance.
4) I hope none of the dialogue is voiced at all.
5) I don't want Ganon to be the big bad of this game.
6) I'd like for Princess Zelda to have a bigger role in this game. Perhaps even a segment where she is playable.
Currently Playing: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond (NS2); Corpse Factory (PC)
@Ralizah: Simply said: I totally agree with all points. Side-quests in Majora's Mask and even in Wind Waker were great. I missed them a lot in TP and SS.
@Ralizah: I can't really say any of those are unpopular. I either agree or am completely open to all of those suggestions. Except I guess I would actually maybe prefer no customization of Link outside of gender, so that he still has a universal appearance everyone can recognize.
While not announced previously, I expect some form of multiplayer or Souls style mode, and a female character option such as Linkle. I also expect full Zelda amiibo support.
I also think the game could looks different when we see it again.

Do any of you think Zelda U will have considerably changed from the last time we saw it?
Gameplay, graphical style, etc?

The next trailer starts off with Link walking in on the Great Fairy taking a nice, hot bath then...
