This is the Schrödinger's Cat thread. And the Witcher 3 thread. And Fallout 4... anything but Zelda U apparently, but it keeps us going while we're itching for news.
To be clear, Schrödinger's Cat is not supposed to be a realizable situation; it was just a thought experiment Schrödinger used to try to prove how ridiculous he thought quantum mechanics was.
We know - just keeping ourselves entertained... It seems pointless to speculate about Zelda U anyway, given we know so little about it; I mentioned the combat earlier and it was ignored (probably due to nobody having anything to say), so we may as well talk about cats. But to keep it on topic: I wonder if there'll be any cats (Schrödinger's or otherwise) in Zelda U...
I've been reading past discussions in this thread and lemme just say.... this has been quite the fun ride. In one part of this thread, we are talking about animations, then fanservice, then which Zelda has the best combat, and the list runs on. I was literally laughing at so much stuff. I read some of the old stuff I said in this thread and I laughed at how bizarre and dumb I sounded at times. I love this thread. You guys are freaking awesome. But this is is it! 2016 is finally here and this is the supposed year for Zelda Wii U's release!!!!
Yeah, I'm always amused when I find some snippet of a post or review from years back on various parts of the internet. My 'voice' is often so different that I sound completely alien to myself.
Currently Playing: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond (NS2); Corpse Factory (PC)
@NintyMan Would cel shaded Link have the same voice as TP link or would they use different voices for each game? Blimey...easier to just keep him as a silent protagonist. If they did give Link a voice, it would be the people who still knew how to use their own imagination that would lose out...
I never drive faster than I can see. Besides, it's all in the reflexes.
@NintyMan: that's the best thing to do. And I hope he doesn't decide to include full voice acting, as I can only see Link's dialogue being spoke by a voice actor ending badly.
I think how the NPC's talk is fine. Actually, having the NPC's talk brings be out of the experience. I remember this being the case with Darksiders 2. Because you always read faster than they speak, I find myself skipping through the dialogue with them not finishing their sentences, which sounds weird.
I'm pretty sure Nintendo experiments with these kinds of things
In an interview with Gamesmaster, Aonuma says that he's unsure if Link should ever talk.
“We’ve had a lot of requests from fans to hear [Link’s] voice, and while in some ways I do feel that it could be good to have a game where he speaks, part of me also feels that that air of proud independence he has because he doesn’t speak is a precious part of the individuality of his character. I want to think long and hard about whether changing that would be for the better or not before I make any decision.”
Let the same exact team that handled Kid Icarus Uprising's voice acting and Fire Emblem Awakening's voice acting to do voice acting for a Zelda game. Don't let Aonuma handle it. He's too close to Zelda to open his eyes sometimes.
There are only 2 good choices for voice actor for Link - dat goy from CDi gamez and excuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuse mey, princess.
There is no need at all to voice protagonist, even NPC. Zelda is such game that doesn't need that. Unless you want equivalent of "WHERE DID YOU LEARN TO FLY?" from Navii or some other little obnoxious thing that can't shut the trap.
The only Zelda game that could benefit from VO was Hyrule Warriors, they did not do it there, I don't see the point of doing it in main series.

Bit unusual to think that not having a voice leads to more individuality than having a voice. Although this answer also confirms the suspicions that I had about why they hadn't done a sex option for Link: despite him not starting out that way, they have come to see him as a character rather than an avatar, as I largely have too.
On the topic of having Link talk, I have to wonder how much allowing such a thing would benefit the series. Zelda games are player-focused, with the narrative elements primarily facilitating the gameplay and the setting. Sure, there's a multi-universe timeline which connects all of the games to each-other, but all of the games set out to invoke a sense of adventure. A well-defined setting and obstacles to overcome are pretty important things to do when trying to instill a sense of adventure. I don't see how having Link talk would facilitate either of those two aspects of the games.
Thanks given to Xkhaoz for that one avatar. Please contact me before using my custom avatar!

Silent protagonists in voiced games are dumb. Just look at The Division: every interaction is SO awkward.
The only place where that works is Skyrim—a first person game where you are supposed to inhabit the character and live in the world. You don't live in Hyrule nor as Link.
@Kylo_Ren: I don't think anybody ''hates'' the timeline. It just doesn't matter where the game is placed in the timeline, it doesn't affect the game and vice versa.
