i just had a thought.... link saves the world because zelda asks him to and he likes her, now that they released female link, does that mean shes a lesbian? or are they going to release a male zelda???

That is NOT a female Link!
Linkle is her own character and probably has not even any connection to Link.

Not to start fanning flames, but if she has nothing to do with Link, why make her so sililar to him? If your gonna make a female protagonist, make a new one, don't base it off Link. I mean her name's LINKLE for f*cks sake!

Link and Zelda normally don't have a developing relationship in most of the games. I think Skyward Sword and maybe one of the NES games, had that. In OoT Link married Princess Ruto. In Wind Waker, Link was trying to save his sister. In Twilight Princess, Link already had a relationship with a girl from his village. A Link to the Past, Link doesn't interact with Zelda that much. I don't know why the idea of Link and Zelda having a relationship is considered normal for a Zelda game when they so rarely have one. I think it is Players projecting themselves onto Link and Zelda being the main focus for most of the story, so Players themselves actually fall in love with Zelda, or at least the idea of her, since we rarely get to know her personality.

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

They kept the name that they gave her original design; back when she was really just a female version of Link.

Where some of these ever even confirmed?

@rishisquid Yeah, pretty much what Aromaiden already said. And I also think it's possible that they wanted to avoid having people b*tch about a potential change to her name, just look at the situation with Xenoblade X right now, tons and tons of people (cough trolls) who still whine because they can't play with Dolls.

apart from her name being the same as links, her appearance is a direct copy of zelda wii U links appearance, their clothes might be different but they are the same person. when triforce heroes came out everyone was harping them on why they couldnt play as a girl, and they hinted that they would make it so you could play as either a boy or a girl by saying it never even crossed their minds that people would want to play a zelda game as a girl, then linkle was announced, coincidence???

@keife191: Except they're not. She clearly has several significant distinctions from the normal Link. For starters she is not shown to wield the Master Sword (her signature weapons are crossbows), she actually talks, she has her own separate story from Link, separate history, and she is mentioned to be 'like' a little sister to Link. She is her own character.

Linkle was conceptualized and designed before Zelda U and Triforce Heroes even existed.... Well, probably nor, but before they were announced.

Besides, her new design is very different, she looks much more like Link's sister from WW than Link himself.

@Tsurii: their hairstyle is the same, the only difference is linkle has braids, but the shape of their hair is pretty much the same, and she only weilds crossbows for hyrule heroes, who knows if shes exclusive to that game or not, she could be a gender choice.

They honestly look nothing alike, other than both having blue eyes (which really isn't saying much).

Yes, but for the true shippers, it wouldn't change anything.

Linkle (henceforth referred to as Femlink) looks like a mix of Ilia and Skyward Sword Zelda:

Honestly, if this doesn't precipitate a female gender option in Zelda U it'll be a bad, confused message from Nintendo. However, Femlink's involvement would seemingly discourage a voiced protagonist in Zelda U.

Sounds more like they would be irreparably damaged by the whole experience, Link specially.

For Zelda, her life in the dark future never actually happened in the end, so she's probably fine.

Edit: that's not how OoT ends.

i may be a bit hazy on the ending, but this is what i remember, link and zelda share a happy look as adults, then link puts the sword back in the temple and returns to being a kid, then he rides epona across hyrule seeing all his friends, then he arrives back in kokiri village in the lost woods, then the game goes back to the temple of time and the end goes across the screen

The reason you have an image of Link riding off on epona is because of a scene in Majora's Mask: You're on the clock tower facing the skull kid, and you acquire the Ocarina, not being entirely sure what to do with it. Suddenly, you have a flash-back to when Zelda teaches you the Song of Time (which is a little skewed from how it happened in OoT). It is supposedly after the events of Ocarina of Time, and it is the last time you two see each other. You two are in the Temple of Time, she teaches you the Song of Time, and the flashback ends with you riding off on Epona.

However, you never actually see Link leaving Hyrule in Ocarina of Time, nor do you see child Link on child-Epona at any point in the game.

Who said Zelda U is going to be a NX exclusive? It might come to the Wii U.

Some random dude on Nintendo Life.
Toriel left for a while, so Freaky Fred took over her place!
Not changing this part of the signature until Nintendo announces Super Mario Sunshine 2.
