i only say wind waker isnt a zelda game technically, it completely follows what a zelda game is, except for one thing, you follow a random kid instead of the hero of time. i admit i feel a little less strongly about it now, but when wind waker first came out and i found out you were playing some random kid i was pissed lol. now not so much, but it still a little sad thinking back to that time when i first found out

and no, its stated quite clearly that the hero from wind waker has nothing to do with the hero of time, i think the red king says it in the game

OOT wasn't the first Zelda in both release and chronicly so it doesn't matter if the focus is on OOT's Link, almost all Zelda games are you are a random kid and he even though it's not screamed at you in every game all the Links are reincarnations of the same Link.

Well, if the Hero of Time is the only real Link, and the game you play as the Hero of Time are the only real Zelda games, only Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask are real Zelda games.

I honestly don't see the difference between Link in WW and, say, TP or OOT. You're always just a ''random'' kid. The difference is that in OOT for example it's clear from the beginning that you want to stop Ganon, whereas in Wind Waker, your biggest concern during the first part of your journey is saving your sister. TP is actually quite similar to Wind Waker in that regard, a couple of kids get kidnapped, saving them is your first priority, before you even learn about Zant and Ganon.

when i say random kid i mean they are apart from destiny, like OoT link was destined to save hyrule, it couldnt be anyone else, in wind waker it could have been any other kid he had no destiny, he just got lucky enough that his sister was mistaken for zelda and he got dragged into the war between good and evil

Besides, if I remember correctly, your grandma implies that the WW Link is decendant of the warriors of hyrule (which some games imply is a rule for being the hero).

With those customs of having kids wear green tunics, having the ancient shield in her house, the pointy ears and all.

So don't worry, Link is Link.

Was he though? What would've stopped anyone else from obtaining the master sword in OOT and claiming the title Hero of Time? You could also say that Link in Wind Waker was destined to be the hero, because his sister got kidnapped.

Except... wait. I thought that was just a birthday tradition for all the boys on Outset Island? Which means that practically any boy with pointy ears and all that could be the Hero of Time. In fact, I think it was very likely that Link would've only worn that tunic for a day — his birthday, just like how Aryll originally meant to lend Link her telescope for one day only.
There was this part though where Link's grandma did say "The time has come, hasn't it?" or something (the details are foggy, but it definitely occurred when Link was about to go save Aryll). It sounded like she had this hunch that her grandson WILL BE the Hero of Time, and that's why she allowed Link to go on such a dangerous journey.
Still, though. Every Link's just a random boy who just happens to be the worthy possessor of the Triforce of Courage and has to save the world.

With those low polygon models, it could've been anyone in a green costume.

@VeeFlamesNL: Yeah, that's the idea.

The island kept the tradition because they probably figured one of their kids would be the new hero. Eventually.

That kid with the snot? Pure Hero material.

honestly, that kid could have had his own game, hed put on the tunic and itd be too big and baggy, hed be clumsy and bash into all the bad guys killing them on accident, and hed sail the seven seas in a tiny raft (sounds hard with no wind waker lol)

Wait, wait, wait... The same hero in Wind Waker is the same kid in Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks. Doesn't Hyrule Hystoria even say that too?

@Blast: They're same in Phantom Hourglass, it's a direct sequel. Spirit Tracks is set a 100 years after the events of Phantom Hourglass, so they're probably the ancestors of Link and Zelda or something like that.

Octane

Eel

Yup as said, WW Link, Tetra and everybody else (except for that one guy) are long dead in Spirit Tracks. Link has a different voice in the game to hint they're different people.
