I disagree, I never liked Hyrule Warriors link. I never cared for the scarf, and he has that large round bang in the front that makes him look like he's part of a boy band. Combine that with the delicate feminine facial features I see (which I understand is a controversial topic, since everyone seems to see femininity in different things), and I just can't relate myself to him.
I like Ocarina of Time 3D's Link design a lot, though, as far as serious links go.
And Zelda U's Link looks fantastic so far. I hope they go with it.

Disagreed fully. Hyrule Warriors Link looks freaking awesome from head to toe. I don't think his facial features are feminine at all. The scarf shows that he's a boss. But I do admit that if he wore a cape it would be even better.
It's kind of ironic that one were to criticize one Link design for looking too feminine and then praise another that actually caused confusion over his gender when it was first revealed.
Lol yeah, seriously. Though honestly, I don't "relate" to Link. But that's just me, I don't play games to "relate" to the main characters. Lord knows I don't identify with these huge buff dudes in Gears of War. I just like playing through the adventures of the character. Which brings me to my next point, I don't think we're supposed to relate to Link as much as we were when he was just a couple pixels in the original LoZ. Since then, he's been given his own identity and story. He's no longer simply a 'link' to the player via the game.
But the opposite view is just as valid. So no arguments there.

Just sayin'.
That was more due to Aonuma playing about with silly comments rather than the actual design though.

Play a game that wants you feel immersed in the game as a character. There's plenty of games where I relate to the main character. Of course you're not gonna find that special experience in the shooting gallery known as Gears of War (no offense to the series).

Aonuma only said: ''No one explicitly said that that was Link.'' The female Link was brought up by some fans, not Aonuma himself.
Although I'm a bit confused, was the point that OoT Link was the praised character that fans thought was a girl, or the one from Zelda U? The way the post was set makes it look like it's OoT Link.
People definitely and genuinely thought the Zelda U character looked like a girl, I did too. And the comment that it may not even be Link made it more confusing too. Though it probably just meant it's not a final design.

Link isn't feminine at all and ANYBODY who has seen any kind of anime would've known that Zelda U Link was a guy before Aonuma confirmed it long ago. He doesn't look like a girl at all.

There are plenty of good games where you're (not) supposed to relate to the character. You don't always have to feel like you're playing with yourself (Hah) to be immersed in a game.
EDIT: Also, ironically, those gifs Haru posted make me remember why SS Link is one of my top Links. He has a lot of emotion in the game. At least, more easily recognizable emotion

No offense to SS Link but the only easily recognizable emotions are when he's shocked and smiling. That fanmade video of Link's Hyrule Warrior model doing goofy stuff earlier in this thread has way more range on emotions than any Zelda game I've ever played. That's actually kind of sad we haven't seen Adult Link be extremely goofy and super over expressive. Would it hurt to see Adult Link burp after drinking Lon Lon Milk? Or Link actually pondering and thinking when the gamer looks at a Dungeon map? Imagine doing a fun arrow shooting minigame in Zelda U and if you lose... you see Link walking out the store angry and disappointed. Or if you actually did well... you see Link pump his fist and smile. Basically, the potential is huge there. I'm already gonna deduct points from Zelda U if Link isn't gonna be really expressive in his emotions and full of vibrant animations.
I don't really care much about 'expressive' animations beyond a certain point. I'd rather Nintendo just prioritize actual character development like;
-a character and
-motivations / emotions / flaw and
-vocal cords (and the capacity for intelligent speech).
If they're not going for those things then what's even the point? Link could just be an animated squirrel as far as we're concerned—a trained great ape.
And of course I like all of the pretty hat & hair animation too.
Fans like their adult Links to be stoic and dry. They also like to imagine they're secretly big goof balls.
But if the hero ever demonstrates that in canon context, they actually dislike it and take it as an offense.
Lol I'm not the only Zelda fan who doesn't want a stoic and dry Adult Link. I've seen posts for a more expressive Adult Link. If the only vibrant expression Zelda U Link is doing is narrowing one dang eye while he's shooting an arrow then whatever. Loss of potential.
