I don't really care much about 'expressive' animations beyond a certain point. I'd rather Nintendo just prioritize actual character development like;
-a character and
-motivations / emotions / flaw and
-vocal cords (and the capacity for intelligent speech).
If they're not going for those things then what's even the point? Link could just be an animated squirrel as far as we're concerned—a trained great ape.
And of course I like all of the pretty hat & hair animation too.
Once again there are 3rd party companies that balance well character development with good expressions and animations. Nintendo can do both. And has Link ever had any actual character development? In ANY game? Arguably maybe A Link To The Past.... Then again that's a slippery slope of a discussion.

I believe in Skyward Sword he did. Tbh, I kind of feel like Link is a "special" case.

It's a slippery slope for discussion because gamers have different standards on what character development actually is.

That's exactly my point; if Link has a pretty face with nothing beneath then there's no point. The character is already a lost cause, so I'd have them first make Link at all interesting and second make him all purdy.

Yeah but is Aonuma willing to make Link actually different than what he's always been??? No, I doubt it. Gimme a spinoff where Adult Link is struggling if he even wants to save Hyrule or stay in his hometown. Gimme a spinoff where Adult Link tries to find flowers for Zelda because he thinks shes pretty. Aonuma isn't gonna do special stuff like that in the main games. It's a freaking shame, in my opinion. Link stays the same over and over and over. For better and for worse. I've accepted that bitter fact so gimme vibrant animations at least for Zelda U!!!
Although I'm a bit confused, was the point that OoT Link was the praised character that fans thought was a girl, or the one from Zelda U? The way the post was set makes it look like it's OoT Link.
No-one gave a damn about the sex of characters back in 1998.
Oh yeah, the arrow thingy is new. It's still just glowy magitek stuff though.
A robot monster shooting lasers is nothing new by Zelda standards. If anything, robots and machines are usually depicted as ancient/lost technology in the series.
Things fire lasers in Zelda all the time (no stupid comments on this please, lol), what you people talking about?
Zelda U first trailer. Blue laser beams are in it. It obviously means the game is placed in a futuristic setting. C'mon, man. Zelda U is taking place in 30XX and Hyrule Castle will have escalators.
